Las Vegas - bloody weird. Glad I went but wouldn't rush back. All forms of life are found there!

Daffodil63 · 04/09/2023 20:17

Dubai -couldn't see what the attraction was? Too hot and didn't like the vibe

I said France, as I said when I replied to someone else, I have travelled France vastly, for work, weddings, family gatherings. Some places are indeed beautiful, but in MY opinion its over rated, there are plenty of other beautiful places across the world which I personally prefer.
I don’t get the obsession with France generally on MN. But if you like it then that’s absolutely brilliant for you! You can get good food and bad food just like most countries, people are friendlier in other countries thats for sure.
For example I didn’t like Berlin my DH did, he wasn’t keen on Prague and I loved it. Each to their own!

Ohmylovejune · 04/09/2023 20:21

I've never been but don't quite understand Dubai.

It seems, from photos, to be an expensive location simply for a hotel in the sun with option to do extreme luxury shopping, sky diving and desert jeep tours.

Is there anything else?

I can't see how it could generally trump five star European hotels at half the cost and half the flight time. Unless being used as a long haul stop over.

JustKen · 04/09/2023 20:22

Malta. Are the "Harbour Cruise?" Men in Valletta still there? 😡
Agree with Barcelona. What a waste of time & money.

Cattenberg · 04/09/2023 20:24

Gretna Green

I was expecting a pretty village with a traditional blacksmith’s forge. I found a mini shopping mall with a coach park and a canteen.

WWGDD · 04/09/2023 20:25

Dublin

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 04/09/2023 20:28

Venice (horrible place)
Verona (boring with a fake balcony)
Budapest (smoggy)
The Yangtze River (assume it was way better pre-dam)
disneyland Paris (pretty rubbish and overcrowded)

Loved LA though - but then I wasn’t ‘on holiday’ and had loads of time there to go ‘local’ stuff rather than tourist traps. I also went pre-current issues.

mrsrobin · 04/09/2023 20:29

Ubud in Bali - massively over touristed - packed and polluted by traffic - terrible place. As is most of Bali actually!
Vienna - expensive and boring

Takoneko · 04/09/2023 20:29

I really can’t think of anywhere that I felt like this about. I haven’t been to many of the commonly mentioned places, but I wouldn’t go to a lot of those places because they just aren’t my cup of tea. I wouldn’t say that means they are overrated, just that they appeal to different people.

I don’t know if this is a sign that I have an especially sunny disposition, that I pick my holidays really well or that I’ve just been really lucky. 😂😂

Los Angeles. Absolute hole.

This, closely followed by vegas

SlippinJanie · 04/09/2023 20:32

Pompeii

Justcashnosweets · 04/09/2023 20:32

New York

illiterato · 04/09/2023 20:33

Barbados. Shit service, average beaches and the wildlife park had nothing in it other than a lot of shagging tortoises.

TheClitterati · 04/09/2023 20:35

Paris.

illiterato · 04/09/2023 20:35

Bali is like Koh Samui and other similar islands. It’s basically as nice as your villa so if you go super high end it’s nice, and is affordable vs same level of service etc in Europe, but otherwise not really that great.

Cookerhood · 04/09/2023 20:35

Las Vegas
Koh Samui (loved it 30 years ago, more recently not so much)

Cinai · 04/09/2023 20:38

Naples
Bangkok
Delhi
obviously all down to individual taste but I couldn’t wait to leave.

Dublin - nothing wrong with it but just found it a bit boring and not much too see.

TeenLifeMum · 04/09/2023 20:39

I liked New York but I’m a city person. Chicago I loved and would happily have moved there (if visas/education etc weren’t an issue).

I didn’t love Vancouver. Whale watching was amazing but walking along the beach in the evening the grassy banks were full of groups smoking weed so it stunk. The park and pools at the north were nice but people weren’t friendly (not many Canadians), very few children which felt odd and just didn’t feel like Canada. As soon as we drove into the Rockies we were so much happier and love Calgary and the route between the two. I have family in Calgary though so that makes a difference.

I used to hate Paris for the reasons others have said but a year ago dh took me to Paris to see lady gaga. We made a weekend of it. It was 38 degrees (I love the sun) and we walked so so much enjoying the beautiful architecture, lovely cafes. We stayed in a boutique hotel off Liberty square and it just felt safe. A few years before at Le Sacré-Coeur I felt so unsafe I never thought we’d return.

whatchagonnado · 04/09/2023 20:41

Iceland
Ruinously expensive. Smelly. Dark and dank. Cold. Saw one tiny whale fin on a three hour whale watching trip. Very busy round the main attractions and big crowds to watch a not that impressive geyser.

Wasn't a fan of Liverpool either

I’m from Liverpool and think it’s an incredible city (with some shitty parts of course). This thread is really interesting though as we all experience things differently. On a different note I visited Iceland and loved it so much like I’ve never loved anywhere else, it really felt like my ‘spiritual home’ if you believe in those things!

TaraRhu · 04/09/2023 20:45

Center parcs. Swimming pool is great. The rest is across between a premier inn, service station and out of town town mall. Boil in the bag catering to top it off.

supersonicginandtonic · 04/09/2023 20:46

Some if my favourite places are on here 😂
Love krakow
Love Dublin
Love Venice
Love Dubrovnik
Love the algarve
Love France
Love Barcelona 🙈

I was underwhelmed by the Maldives but we went after going Sri Lanka, and krabbi and kph sumai jn thailand.

FindingMeno · 04/09/2023 20:48

I would have said Paris but I have decided a while back that I'd like to try again with a different mindset.

For me, it's Amsterdam. Feels very unsafe. And the whole drug thing is cringe.
