I think Russel Crowe is incredible as Javert

Amal Clooney looks like a young Maureen Lipman.

She does doesn't she! I just googled "young Maureen Lipman" and both are beautiful women.

It's usually the DIL not the MIL...

I knew a man who would eat frozen whelks as if they were ice lollies.

Gladiator is a terrible film.

I don't like Julie Andrews.

Ricky Gervais isn't funny in anything.

Ok not liking Julie Andrews is a step too far for me 😂

Maireas
I’m an author and think now I’ll probably try to get it into a book somehow, although thinking of my editor- I may just put it as the name of a wine or something for my own amusement 😅

Maireas · 05/09/2023 19:36

Oh please do that, @stayathomer ! 😊

Rosé wine is best at room temperature

What kind of rosé? Not the lovely pale pink, dry kind from Provence??

CassiniG · 05/09/2023 20:04

Pixie cuts are bloody awful unless you have the features of a super model and even then you'd look better with longer hair.

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 05/09/2023 20:07

Yes yes to Richard osman’s books being dreadful.

JK Rowling can’t write for shit, either. Sorry, but HP is rubbish (the world she created is good though - the books are just badly written).

Most people should eat either entirely or mostly vegetarian diets.

Cats are better than people.

xsquared · 05/09/2023 20:11

ABBA are overrated. Their songs are neither good nor catchy.

FatOaf · 05/09/2023 20:16

Cats are better than people.

At what?

PandaChopChop · 05/09/2023 20:32

Horses are terrifying.

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 05/09/2023 20:33

@FatOaf in general. The more people I meet the more I prefer my cat!

Why can't I quote PPs any more?

Anyway, re Sex and the City"
Kim Cattrall the only thing that made it worth watching. She acts the pants off the rest of the cast (Charlotte was so wooden) and the only person who realised it was a sitcom, not a state of the nation address.

They’ve moved the three dots to the top corner of comments, the quote function is still there - is that what you mean?

The Bridget Jones films were crap.

Agree, I lasted maybe fifteen of the first before hitting the eject button. Not remorse funny. Same all those years earlier with Ab Fab, watching a couple of drunks stumble around was tedious.

"Margaret Thatcher - "
"Now, listen to this, Patrick. This is the Voice of an Oppressed Minority!"
"Margaret Thatcher was the best prime minister this country ever had"

Marmite and marmalade is the best topping for buttered toast. You are welcome.

RicherThanYews · 05/09/2023 23:11

Trifle does not need booze to be tasty and will never be a crap dessert choice. It gets such a bad rep on here.

RicherThanYews · 05/09/2023 23:38

Ooh and mullet haircuts are wonderful. If only I wasn't bald as a bean.

CassiniG · 05/09/2023 23:50

Marley and me was a load of crap. The dog was cute but the ham acting was dreadful with the unsuitable pairing of Aniston who is wooden and Wilson who looked like he wanted to be anywhere but on that film set.

Mawkish, unbelievable drivel.

Sweetener12 · 06/09/2023 05:07

Smartshow 3d video cards are better than store bought cards and you can rotate them between people 😂

AutumnNymph · 06/09/2023 07:06

enchantedsquirrelwood · 04/09/2023 16:46

Totally agree, I must be the only (other) person who quite liked this year's cool summer.

Add a few more to your group. The entire Nymph clan agrees with you including the dog.

Firstly horses were on roads well before cars. Secondly, horses are trained and desensitized to traffic (however they are still animals with their own minds so I appreciate they won't always behave in the way we think they will) and thirdly, if people didn't drive like absolute arseholes and gave horses the respect they should have on the roads it would be a lot safer for everyone. Instructions are even in the highway code in how to pass horses (section 215).

All that said, you are allowed your rant and to dislike whatever you want. It would be a boring world if we were all the same ☺️

Horses were on the roads when women didn't have the vote, do you encourage going back to then?

People drive like arseholes - totally agree, but riders ride like arseholes also and ultimately the horses are not suited to todays busy roads - its dangerous to everyone involved.

I didn't rant but I do intensely dislike and disagree with horses on roads. I don't dislike horses, I dislike riders who think it's a good thing to do.

FatOaf · 06/09/2023 10:16

Why do so many motor-vehicle drivers assume roads exist exclusively for them?

Point 1 - maybe some women shouldn't have the vote... ;)

Point 2 - do you ride? I have never seen a person 'ride like an arsehole' on the road. Are there people doing equine acrobatics on public highways? If so, I'm impressed!

Point 3 - I get it, you don't like me. I'm away to sob into my big pillow and then go ride my horse like an arsehole on the motorway 😁

But seriously, and as I said in my previous post, we're all very different and I live and let live x

cheezncrackers · 06/09/2023 11:13

OK I'm going to just say it.... gay men are totally over represented in the media and on TV and film in my opinion, both real personalities and fiction characters.

As are all minority groups. You can't watch a drama on TV these days without about half the characters being non-white, in mixed marriages or gay. Sometimes I think they're trying to cram as many minorities as they can into each series and it's getting ridiculous. In the UK, 18% of the population is non-white and 3% are gay (census/ONS statistics), but from watching British TV you'd think it was about 40% for both.
