Meat from Aldi is always off

Has anyone else found that meat bought from Aldi is frequently off despite being well within the date shown?

I bought some chicken breasts from there and opened them for cooking and they smelt horrible so ended up getting chucked.

It’s happened before so I’ve given up buying fresh stuff from them.

I have noticed that Llidl chicken smells rank on the day i buy it but i think it is caused by the plastic wrap, i have always cooked it withoutany issues.

I don't buy for aldi for this very reason I think the quality is poor.

Meat that is packaged in plastic often smells when you open it. Wait 5 mins and then see if it still smells.

I stopped buying meat and fish from Lidl a few years ago as it was always off the day after purchase, really off, not just needing to be aired a bit before use.

One Lidl had the most rank smelling chicken fridge, needless to say I didn't buy anything.

I rarely buy meat as it's not for me, but don't want to poison anyone else. It's not that cheap any more either, so not worth wasting money on. Aldi was better but it was a newer store, however most of their fresh produce is still crap and I have other options so shop elsewhere.

Nor from ours. You obviously have one that has poor stock control, handling and management.

I sometimes wonder whether Sainsbury, Tesco et al pay people a retainer to occasionally post knocking copy about Aldi and Lidl......

I play Aldi thread bingo - meat smells off, fruit is rank, literal maggots in the veg.

As said it's probably the wrapping. I've seen chicken products especially saying the wrapping can cause a smell.

I've never found this, we buy a mix of meat from Aldi and the butchers.

I never but meat from Aldi or Lidl for this reason.

It’s well known that the discount stores are forbidden by law to sell any merchandise until it is well rotted.
The major supermarkets insisted on this to ensure fair competition.

Certainly makes you wonder because the experiences of a few posters on here are nothing like the ones in real life. My Aldi always has fresh long lasting fruit/veg and their meat is fine too 🤷‍♀️

Never had an issue with meat from Aldi

Even with our Gousto chicken it says to open the pack and leave for a few minutes to disperse the smell. Tastes fine

All the poor people spending their hard-earned and limited cash on rotten meat but still going back for more week after week. It's a crying shame.

I think it's really store dependent with Lidl and Aldi.

I've had awful fruit / veg and off meat from Aldi before.

The fruit / veg was from a branch which used to be the only one in town. We now have two, and I've not had dodgy stuff from the new one. I have had off meat once though.

Just because you haven't experienced it, doesn't mean it hasn't happened.

I've had off meat from Waitrose and m and s. It happens. Got a £50 voucher from m and s and a feeding and £20 from Waitrose.

I've never had off meat from Lidl / Aldi.

The meat is fine. However, I find that some of their veg has to be eaten quickly as it soon goes off. Tomatoes in particular.

Nope never, always much higher quality than any of the other supermarkets ime. But then our local Aldi has a very high turnover of food (it's absolutely packed from 8am until 10pm!!)
