It’s the same every year! Boiling hot when everyone is back at school and work. Even more annoying this year when the weather has been so crap!

Not looking forward to commuting in the heat.

if everyone in the country took six weeks off in the summer things would pretty quickly grind to a halt. You should be thanking the MAJORITY of the British workers for staying at work so the privileged few can take time off with their children.

Statutory leave is 20 days plus 8 public hols.

There are whole sectors which shut down or go into recess during the summer, some for longer than others!

I am aware of that and there are a great many more that continue to run.

Why can’t folk see beyond their own situation?

But who’s doing that? You’re making exactly the same point as the poster you were replying to.

I am on holiday in the UK this week. I timed that well😀 It is usually hot as soon as the kids go back to school.
I have a friend whose birthday is 6th June and her sister’s birthday is 6th October. She says most years it is hotter on the 6th October.

What is it then?

It’s 28 days which can include bank holidays (i.e. at employer’s direction).

It's perfect timing

I'm not 'back at work' ... I'm off work!!

Now everywhere is calmer due to lack of kids, it's going to be fabulous!!

September and October are known in the tourist industry as Saga season

I'm glad the weather is lovely now. I'm a TA so have had a long break, we went camping and it rained every day and our tent blew out and ripped...

But a warm September is such a beautiful time of year. I used to go on holiday then pre DC. The weather is generally good, it's less crowded and everything is much more relaxed than August.

Good weather has benefits in term time too... It means we don't have to get 30x little ones togged up in waterproofs and wellies for breaks and lunchtimes!
Long may it last!

I have a theory that the mass movement of people for holidays, events etc. actually causes the heavens to open in summer. Look at the 2012 Olympics, the 1977 Silver Jubilee, Wimbledon, every Coronation since George III, the list goes on.

I.was three in 1977 during the silver jubilee I have a very vague memory of running through garden sprinklers in my parents friends garden and eating peapods, and the sun beating down🤔

Isn't it unbefuckinglievable that people can manufacture a bitchy argument about the weather on Mumsnet!

I was 18 and had just sat my A levels. 1977 was an awful summer weatherwise in the London area. We had the odd fine day, but it rained a lot. Then come September when I started a new job we had lovely weather.

Isn't it just. I have managed to get the week off work and have just hung out a fifth set of curtains to dry on the line as I haven't been able to do this until now.
