30 degrees next week just as everyone goes back to school and work

It’s the same every year! Boiling hot when everyone is back at school and work. Even more annoying this year when the weather has been so crap!

Not looking forward to commuting in the heat.

At least I can get all the coats, duvets, blankets and bulky stuff washed and dried ready for October!

Same here!

Plus get outside in your lunch breaks and cram as much Vit D as you can into your body, after the lack of sun all summer.

Gosh, so many people on this thread who apparently don’t receive their statutory annual leave entitlement.

Hmm

??
In the UK most people don't take all summer off. This isn't France. I believe the statutory leave entitlement is 4 weeks (20 days) plus bank holidays, but I'm happy to be corrected.

Multipleexclamationmarks · 03/09/2023 13:09

I'm gutted, I work in school, no, not everyone works all summer anyway.
To add insult to injury I work in reception, we'll have to put suncream on the little darlings too!

And who cares if most people work all year? I don’t. It’s just shit for kids though. But who cares about kids sweating in schools.

Why is that shit? Its only sweat.

I work all year round, so do most people I imagine

Same. It’s baffling how people go on about going back to work after the summer. Most people get 4 weeks annual leave a year and take some but not all in the summer. But some people seem to think everyone is a teacher and doesn’t go to work in the school holidays.
I work in a university and loads of people think we get all the student vacation periods off! If only. Research, admin, catering, security, building and grounds maintenance, refurbishment etc are going on literally 24/7 every day of the year.

Really? That's so weird you're a receptionist not a suncream applyer

BathingBeauty · 03/09/2023 13:18

It was good when you went to uni to have good weather though!

FunkyMonks · 03/09/2023 13:19

Yep always happens and I knew it would Sod's Law currently baking while I am trying to clean through the house ready for Monday 🥵.
Wish we had had this weather during the actual summer hols right now I'm not enjoying it so much roll on the cool autumn breeze.

GreenishFinger · 03/09/2023 13:20

Boomboom22 · 03/09/2023 10:07

At least we will get some before autumn closes in!

What’s the point when everyone is back inside the office / school?

It’s absolutely gutting!

I think they meant they work in reception class, i.e. 4-5 year olds?

Shoelaces7 · 03/09/2023 13:25

This is only a problem if you work term times.

Dontcallmescarface · 03/09/2023 13:26

DD views it as nature's reward for her having to spend all summer holidays covering for colleagues who were given priority when it came to July/August holiday dates due to having school aged DC's.

BaroldandNedmund · 03/09/2023 13:30

If you think it’s normal for the temperature to be 30C in September then you must either have a poor memory or be very young,

It’s very tiresome when folk pretend they don’t know perfectly well there is a general cultural sense of many people taking some leave during July and August, even if it does not directly or literally apply to their personal annual leave arrangements.

Ginmonkeyagain · 03/09/2023 13:35

@BaroldandNedmund Indian summers have always been a thing. Granted 30 degrees is the upper end of that.

SiliconHeaven · 03/09/2023 13:37

I’ve worked like a dog every day in June, July and August covering for all of my colleagues’ summer holidays. I’m off to the south coast for a week tomorrow 😁😁😁😁☀️☀️☀️

queenatom · 03/09/2023 13:38

Wasn't able to book leave during July and August because no school aged kids, so I'm off the next two weeks - quite glad the sun as returned and its looking like it won't be a washout!

lavenderlou · 03/09/2023 13:39

Pretty much every child will have been off school this summer. Most parents will have had to take some time off in the summer when they would probably have liked to have nice weather to take the kids out in, that's why people get frustrated when the nicest weather is as soon as schools start back.

Mojodojocasahaus · 03/09/2023 13:40

I like it - bonus summer and it will shut up all those pumpkin spice drinking - yay it’s Christmas soon cretins for a week or two at least

Good one

Hollyhead · 03/09/2023 13:47

@EucalyptusAndOranges god I’d love it if the school holidays could be split into 3 weeks in June and 3 weeks in September!

Hollyhead · 03/09/2023 13:48

@SiliconHeaven have a good time! I can’t wait to be decoupled from the kids for holiday reasons, I despise holidaying in school holidays!

Just you wait until Christmas. It’s even worse then.

My flat gets so bloody hot. I work from home 3 days a week and honestly think I'd rather go to the office every day where there's air con.
