30 degrees next week just as everyone goes back to school and work

It’s the same every year! Boiling hot when everyone is back at school and work. Even more annoying this year when the weather has been so crap!

Not looking forward to commuting in the heat.

Summer holidays in England/ Wales should be mid June to 1st August as that's when the hottest bit of the UK summer is, then Autumn half term could be late September, which is usually lovely all across Europe.
When I am Queen this will be my decree.

EucalyptusAndOranges · 03/09/2023 10:08

The six weeks seem to be timed so that we get the coldest/rainiest bit of the British summer but unbearable heat abroad. It would be so lovely to have the kids off in June or September - nicer if you do go abroad but also much more likely to have good weather if you stay home. I wish they'd rearrange the school year - not reducing the amount of holiday, but redistributing it!

Wouldn't make any difference. The weather Just Knows and will be a bit disappointing in the holidays and glorious as soon as they go back, whatever dates are set

DS's birthday next week. Always a heatwave. There's never been a cloud in the sky for 15 years.

Maybe it's adore telling of his future glory

pennyfest · 03/09/2023 15:13

Frustrating isn't it!

I don't mind the heat, but not when I'm at work- it's just unbearable.

Really feel for my kids having to wear blazers next week in the heat.

NumberFortyNorhamGardens · 03/09/2023 15:16

I have a theory that the mass movement of people for holidays, events etc. actually causes the heavens to open in summer. Look at the 2012 Olympics, the 1977 Silver Jubilee, Wimbledon, every Coronation since George III, the list goes on.

TheAloe · 03/09/2023 15:18

@jallopeno

No, it’s not just sweat. Welcoming in a class of 30 four year olds is much better when it’s cooler for them. They already find it quite overwhelming as it is. So yes, it is shit and roll on the autumnal weather.

BIossomtoes · 03/09/2023 15:20

I love an Indian summer. Bring it on.

daffodilandtulip · 03/09/2023 15:38

After the summer we've had, how long would the winter feel if we didn't have this short spell of sun now?

It actually is true every year! Every single blinking year. It's why September is my favourite month - it has the best weather - for SE England at least.

It was 28 degrees on my birthday once - right at the end of the month.

2011 IIRC. Painted the outside of the house, glorious few days.

OP - if you fancy some more time off with the kids I have a Dodgy Concrete Detector I can lend you.

Stressedgiraffe · 03/09/2023 15:45

I'm off next week can't wait for some sun.
Should be able to sit in the garden peacefully as dds at school.

Looking forward to some serious heat does not equate with hating kids.

This is a very weird thread where many posters are purposely misreading other people's posts so they can have a go at them

Isnt that what Mumsnet is based on?

DavinaTheDreadful · 03/09/2023 17:52

@honeyandfizz I was coming on yo say much the same!

Just another typical mumsnet thread. Although I must say it's worse at the weekends for some reason.

Some people have worked all summer

Yeah but it is what it is. They just have to get on with it

sweetie19 · 03/09/2023 19:45

@luckylavender yes, so have I (bar a weeks holiday). I work full time, 52 weeks of the year.

My point was that it’s common for people to take annual leave during the school holidays if they have kids. And tomorrow, the kids are back, so I assume people will be back at work. The roads will be busier, the trains will be busier etc etc - that was the point I was making.

Of course I know the majority of the country work all year round (like me).

Isn't it unbefuckinglievable that people can manufacture a bitchy argument about the weather on Mumsnet!

LindorDoubleChoc · 03/09/2023 19:48

We all have different work commitments. We all have different times we can take holiday or not. We all have different budgets for holidays. We all have different family dynamics. This is a thread about THE WEATHER!

GreenishFinger · 03/09/2023 20:52

IsNowTheTime · 03/09/2023 14:10

if everyone in the country took six weeks off in the summer things would pretty quickly grind to a halt. You should be thanking the MAJORITY of the British workers for staying at work so the privileged few can take time off with their children.

Statutory leave is 20 days plus 8 public hols.

It's not, if we're being accurate about these things...

What is it then?

I love warm days in September, it feels like bonus summer and it's good to end on a high note before we go in to Autumn.

Same! I hate winter, summer could last forever and I’d be delighted!

Me too. My dream would be to spend October to March in Australia or New Zealand every year. Perpetual summer.

sadaboutmycat · 03/09/2023 21:10

My first wedding was 38 years ago in Sept and it was glorious weather. It's not a new thing!
