What do i do? Do I call GP in the morning although will only get a telephone call or should I attend hospital?

You call your GP and tell the receptionist you've found a lump in your breast. Hoping all is well and it turns out to be a cyst.

RoyKentFanclub · 31/08/2023 05:11

GP. Call as soon as they open.

MinnieMountain · 31/08/2023 05:11

GP.

Call your GP

pbdr · 31/08/2023 05:21

Call GP and make sure you explicitly tell the receptionist what the issue is so that they can prioritise an appointment for you. Even if it is initially a telephone appointment any reasonable GP would then get you in for an examination for something like this.
All the best OP.

makeminealargeoneagain · 31/08/2023 05:24

Please call your GP. Good luck OP x

ZebraD · 31/08/2023 05:34

i had this recently. Get in touch with your gp. We have an online thing we’re you can request face to face. Once you have been seen you should be referred to local breast ward. It is a 2ww referral which means you will be seen within 2 weeks. Mine turned out to be a cyst that they drained on the day - really big ouch BUT not cancer and was so relieved. Good luck. x

Silkiebunny · 31/08/2023 05:46

Call GP and they should do a referral to breast clinic.

Tilllly · 31/08/2023 07:36

Definitely ring GP and tell receptionist you've got a breast lump

GP might just refer you to breast clinic without seeing you

But either way, you'll be seen quickly

When you say big, pea size? Marble?
Has it appeared suddenly? Does it hurt?

Let us know how you get on today x

A lump in your breast is neither an accident nor an emergency. Call GP.

Bit harsh

She's frightened, have a little compassion

Empathy… well I’ve had breast cancer if that’s what you mean. I found a lump.

I'm sorry you've had breast cancer amd hope you're ok now but your post was cold when someone was at their most vulnerable.

Tilllly · 31/08/2023 07:46

I too have had breast cancer

The surgery didn't remove my capacity for empathy

HelpMebeok · 31/08/2023 07:47

If you've just found a massive lump it's more likely to be a cyst. Any decent GP will get you in today to be seen.

sorrynotathome · 31/08/2023 07:49

The question was whether to call GP or go to hospital. Anyone who thinks going to A&E with a breast lump is acceptable has absolutely no understanding or “empathy” for people who need or work in those emergency services.

You were rude. 10 other people said gp in a polite way.
I'm not going to derail the thread any longer.

OP sending you best wishes

Iliketulips · 31/08/2023 07:53

I'd phone GP surgery and be very direct asking for an appointment today. Obviously you'll be asked why, so explain you've found a large lump and obviously you're worried.

I was going to say there's a good chance it's a cyst. I've had this happen to two friends and that was the outcome. Either way, you're clearly wanting and needing to do the right thing and get it checked out.

Silkiebunny · 31/08/2023 07:54

I also had breast cancer which appeared as huge lump overnight, lobular type which forms as spiders web first, and first GP didn't refer. Second GP 4.5 months later did when saw a thread on here of lady who GP also didnt refer so she went to A&E and they found a large cancer. Hopefully its not but definitely does need seeing ASAP. In theory should be GP.

Your advice is mostly correct, but not said in the kindest way for someone who is frightened

However, if the lump is a huge painful abscess on the verge of bursting (which I have had) it would be an A&E job (& it was)

OP - if it is very painful, hot to touch and skin is starting to break, that could be A&E

If it feels hard & no temperature then I would say GP. I've also had that type and they saw me same day, referred me and I saw consultant and got a mammogram, ultrasound & biopsy 5 days later. Mine was a papilloma and I had it removed by wire guided biopsy and all was fine (7 years ago)

All the best

shzibssbns · 31/08/2023 08:05

GP will be able to refer you

Silkiebunny · 31/08/2023 08:07

Actually I think in the end she went to GP again but was like me with long delay in referral and both then needed chemo. I would go via GP but make sure they refer. Mine was over phone both times but second referred.

Good luck @lampyshade, thinking of you.

FlamingMadKatie · 31/08/2023 08:41

A phone call appointment should suffice. I called our health centre, explained to the receptionist. The GP called me back within the hour and made the referral to the breast clinic in our local hospital immediately. Do not be fobbed off.
