How much have you spent on school uniform?

Here’s mine, ~£300 for 1 in lower secondary school. Probably missed a few things off and will need to top up during the year.

Coat £30 (Vinted)
Shoes £35
1 x PE kit (top, shorts, fleece) £45 (branded)
2 x trousers £34
3 x polos £36 (branded)
2 x sweatshirts £34 (branded)
5 x socks £7

Rucksack £25
Stationery £20
Calculator £15 (specific one needed)
Water bottle £10

Couldn’t have got much of this cheaper unless second hand and even then it costs. Made me think of people with 2-3+ children. Must really add up in 1 go over the summer!

Lots! I have 3 at school and oldest is at a secondary where a blazer is compulsory. But it does mean I buy them less non school items so probably evens up/if not cheaper than if I compared to clothing them in non uniform every day of the year.

rhino12345 · 30/08/2023 16:05

£21. Three new dresses. Luckily she's very slow growing so the cardigans and jumpers from last year still fit 😂

We also got her some new school shoes (£28) but they were a gift from a relative.

sparkiesparkle · 30/08/2023 16:07

Sixth form suit and shirts etc. £150
Not bought new shoes
Year 7, new uniform £130

hiredandsqueak · 30/08/2023 16:09

£75 I gave dd a donation towards dgs uniform, I'm still to buy his winter coat as I do every year as well so another £40 perhaps?

BackToOklahoma · 30/08/2023 16:17

This year, youngest is going into year 10. £160

Shoes £50
Shirts £30
Tie £10
Socks/Tights £40
Cardigans 30

Everything else is still ok.

I think to buy everything for year 7 it was about £450 for blazer, skirts, trousers, cardigans/jumpers, tie, tights/socks, shoes plus PE kit which is 2 tops, skort/shorts, leggings, hoodie, trainers, football boots, school PE socks. Then bags and stationery.

cocksstrideintheevening · 30/08/2023 16:17

Dts going into y8

School shoes £70
Blazer sleeve adjustments £60
Trainers £160 (on the proviso they are home trainers too)
2 x blouses each £48
Backpacks £80

So just over £200 per child and we hardly needed anything. Thankfully PE kit will fit for a while yet.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 30/08/2023 16:24

6 polos - £30 (they changed colour so need new)
6 cardigans - £30 (she lost all hers)
Shoes - £18
Lunchbox - £6
Waterbottle - £5
Don’t need new dresses or leggings as still fit.
No new rucksack as she has about 5.
Don’t need stationary.
Coat from vinted - £13 (Lands End)

Primary school year 4. We’re lucky school don’t push for logo items.

Spacecowboys · 30/08/2023 16:27

Blazer - £60
Shoes-£60
Trousers -£65
Shirts-£25
Stationary- £10
Calculator -£11 ( discounted from school)
Water bottle- £18
PE kit- nil, new one last year was too big so kept for this year.
Back pack nil- last years still in excellent condition.
Much cheaper now I only have one dc to buy for.

buzzlightyearsgloves · 30/08/2023 16:31

£55 shoes
£22 coat
£22 6 polos
£30 2 jumpers
£15 2 trousers
£5 socks
£25 rucksack
£6 PE shorts
£9 PE joggers
£5 PE top
£7 plimsoles
£25 PE trainers
£11 name stickers

Total £215. He's grown like an absolute beanpole this summer so needed all new everything. Hopefully it isn't this every year!

Phos · 30/08/2023 16:35

I've only got school shoes new so far, £50ish from Clarks and some black PE pumps from Shoezone that were £3. Main reason being that DD's school stay in summer dresses until October half term anyway, her PE kit all still fits and I've got her winter uniform sorted from going to the second hand sale last year. She needs a new hat and new PE fleece which would be £70 all together to buy new so might see if we can get by until the sale in the second week and if not, I'll potter out for them.

Desert76 · 30/08/2023 16:40

I spent several hundred pounds on 2 secondary age DC last year, but happily it nearly all still fits still.

I have so far bought new shoelaces for DC1 (£1), but the shoes themselves for both DC are in pretty good nick, so will see how long we can get them to last.

Stationery top up for both DC was about £11 as we got a multi buy offer.

DC2 got a new winter coat in the sale (£25) but it will do for outside school too, I hope.

Thecomfortador · 30/08/2023 16:44

2x pairs shoes £48 total
Polo shirts £14 for 8
2 logo jumpers for year 3 £22
Haven't checked trousers yet but hoping we'll have enough to fit both DC.
PE kit will be whatever is festering in their bags. (I've washed it really, can't imagine they've grown out of them since the summer).

Could do with about 100 pairs of grey socks, so that'll be a few bob. Ds1 has a pink water bottle, going into yr 1 so he might be happier now with a less pink one. I'll ask. (Heard a parent moaning last term their son wanted a pink bottle and hoping it was just a phase. Fgs. )

Bags will do from last year. Year 3 ds has declined offer of a pencil case. Will address the coat issue when it arises.

Honestly dreading the year 7 transition when it comes. Will start saving now I think.

Patchworksack · 30/08/2023 16:48

New shoes for DD, everything else still fits. £45
New tie for DS2 as school pointlessly decided to change it £8
DS1 going into 6th form so no uniform but an eye watering amount on textbooks (secondhand but even so..) and a laptop.

BlueRabbitYellow · 30/08/2023 16:53

£97 on two pairs of Clarks shoes yesterday. My MIL used to always buy their school shoes, but she's not in a position to this year. I'm carrying on the tradition in her place. She always insisted on well fitting shoes for school. But really.

£115 on a new blazer, trousers and sports tops. Thankfully they are not changing to a new school this year, so everything else stays the same that fits. I'd forgotten about winter coats. That'll have to wait till September pay day.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 30/08/2023 16:57

Ds going into Y11.

2 shirts £15
2 pairs of trousers £22
blazer £45
shoes £40

£122 in total. He still has one short-sleeved shirt that fits too, which he can wear while it's still warmish. A bit annoying to have to get a new blazer he'll only need until June, but hey ho. He'd previously got 2 years out of blazers, but he's rocketed up and the sleeves were too short!

Dd is off to university, which brings its own eye-watering costs!

SummerDayz47 · 30/08/2023 16:58

Primary school child just shoes as everything else still fits. (Shoes Did fit but didn’t survive lunchtime football!)

DD secondary school will be close to £400 altho I’ve only bought one of a few things as want to wait and see what she actually wears etc

mrsed1987 · 30/08/2023 16:59

Starting reception

4 x non badged jumpers = £18
1 badged = £9
Polo shirts = £14
Trousers = £20
Socks = £2.50
Pe stuff = £18
Shoes = £40
Coat = £25

Funkyblues101 · 30/08/2023 17:01

Over £1100 for everything, going into yr 9 (the first year at private senior school). Luckily it all still fits for yr 10 and unless they get fat, it should mostly fit until the end of yr 13.

Alphabeta123 · 30/08/2023 17:02

£75 for two primary kids
youngest needed new school shoes - £30
oldest also needed new shoes, but got lucky in sale - £15
youngest needed football boots (tiny feet) - £10 including postage from ebay
oldest needed new PE shirt, £20
everything else still fits for the oldest, youngest wears his brothers old uniform

RandomUsernameHere · 30/08/2023 17:07

Nothing, 2 in later primary. They both had new school shoes towards the end of last term so pretty sure everything still fits.
