Switched on my bed side light and this fella ducked behind my bedside cabinet. 😱 he’s about 4 cm toe to toe.

arachnophobics do not click the pic!

Oof that’s a beauty!

Reminds me of a particular occasion about which we were reminiscing earlier. A family member who is not the biggest fan of arachnids was here one time and was shrieking and screaming when one like that appeared in the living room.

Our (at the time) 2 year old stared at her and said “is only bider”

Jammydodger1981 · 28/08/2023 23:23

That’s a beauty! I don’t know if I’d be able to sleep with it so close to my face though…

Lucinda7 · 28/08/2023 23:28

I had one like that in the sink the other day. It was quite skittish! Luckily my DD is home at the moment so she put it outside. I wouldn't like to sleep near one that big!

dioramadrama · 28/08/2023 23:32

One of these crawled from my bedside table onto my shoulder and back again the other night. Got the fright of my life! I'm fine with spiders but just wasn't expecting it!

stbrandonsboat · 28/08/2023 23:35

This is currently on the wall by my pillow. I love spiders though, so it doesn't bother me 😂

I had TWO of them in the utility sink so called my DH obviously. He caught one, put it outside and went back for the other. The bugger had gone!
If it couldn't scale the sink it must've nipped down the plughole I assume. Cunnning.I put the plug in sharpish but can't keep it there forever.

Poshjock · 28/08/2023 23:40

I have a few teeny spoods around. I’m not sure I like this one being quite so close though. I don’t think I can move him. I did try to nudge him to the other side of the cabinet but he’s hunkered in and being quite resistant 😆 I usually try to move bigger ones into the garden shrubbery where they have a better chance of catching prey. Doubt there’s much for him in here.

I had one in my bedroom earlier. I could hear a weird tapping and looked up and saw the biggest house spider I have ever seen. Probably 6cm wide. I jumped across the room and woke poor DH up. I'm not really bothered by spiders but when I can hear it walking than I am outta there! 😱

guildingthelily · 28/08/2023 23:47

Feel your pain, this was at the side of my bed a few nights ago. Eyes on sticks and casts a huge shadow. It has knees FFS. Nope 😬😅

I had one like that a few years ago - I could literally hear her footsteps as she crossed the pages of a book. She used to drop down in front of my computer screen on a thread briefly and then scuttle back up a couple of times a night. I quite liked her! No spiders like that since I got a cat if that helps.

Murpe · 28/08/2023 23:52

There are some very big spiders around at the moment - there was such a big one in my bedroom the other night that I could only just get the span of its legs under a pint glass to remove it. I'd let him stay the first night, but on night 2 I decided it was time to go. Cellar spiders and the little spiders who hunker down in the corners of windows can stay; everyone else gets encouraged to reconsider their housing options.

HerAvatar · 28/08/2023 23:57

He needs a name and his own toothbrush OP Grin

WhateverMate · 29/08/2023 00:00

Love this thread!

It makes such a change to see a thread about spiders where posters aren't trotting out the overused and daft "Burn the house down" lines 😃

Still wouldn't want to sleep with that in the room though, as it'd make me feel skittish.

TheNestedIf · 29/08/2023 00:00

Lovely!

May I show you my friend I made back in May, now AWOL, Billie Big Balls?

Wow! That's a one big one!

fabmaccawhackythumbsaloft · 29/08/2023 00:07

I'd have to relocate him out of the bedroom I'm afraid !

Speckson · 29/08/2023 00:07

The outdoor ones are much prettier - saw this wasp spider on a walk the other day.

That’s the sort of beauty we get too. Glad it’s not here though as our dog and cat compete to catch and eat them. Don’t blame me, they just do it.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 29/08/2023 00:12

Oh my Jesus that's fucking huge!!

I try not to get too freaked out by spiders but that monster would have to be removed before I entered the room.

BlueBlubbaWhale · 29/08/2023 00:16

Do you mean inches? Just that 4cm is tiny

momymu · 29/08/2023 00:26

I saw the biggest spider (about 10cm across!) couple weeks ago in my DD's room and threw him out the window. Tonight saw smaller (about 8cm) running across my sitting floor. Had nothing else, but big mug with me, so put the mug over the spider, thinking, I would get some towel and throw him out in the garden. I then saw the mug MOVING!!! Freaked out and turned the mug round and round- until, unfortunately, squashed the poor fella:( Not proud of myself, but got really scared!

MonumentalLentil · 29/08/2023 01:00

For the last 2 years I have been standing by my bed, exactly the same spot and felt a tickle on my foot, looked down and seen a huge one on my foot. First time it ran away, second time I knew what I was feeling and managed to pick it up and move it to safety.
Not had a visit yet this year but haven't forgotten. I have collected a few smaller ones up and put them in a safe place though.
One year there was a beautiful deep red one, no idea what kind, looked like a common house spider but such a pretty one.

CantThinkOfANameAtAll · 29/08/2023 01:09

DD had one that size on her headboard last night. She heard fluttery moth wings so turned on her light to see it right above where her head had been 😱

GarlicGrace · 29/08/2023 01:14

But is it whispering sweet nothings to you, OP?

At least you won't get bed bugs 😂🕷

Theforeverhome · 29/08/2023 01:21

We’ve got two that large living in the house. They disappear when it’s rent collection time!
