Switched on my bed side light and this fella ducked behind my bedside cabinet. 😱 he’s about 4 cm toe to toe.

Last night I was watching tv in bed when a humungous spider ran in thru my bed door across the room and up onto the curtains closely followed by my cat! Spider was at top of the curtains and cat was at the bottom shaking the curtains and trying to climb up! The cat settled down so I turned over to go to sleep but unfortunately I’m pretty sure I heard some crunching going on in the early hours so RIP spider.
last week there was one in my basin that couldn’t get out so I made him a ladder out of toilet paper so he could get out. I could hear his footsteps clomping up the paper!
when I lived in a rural area we had a spider as big as a side plate. He struggled and climbed up our big inglenook fireplace and then lost his grip and fell, he was so big we heard the thud as he landed and kids wanted to rush him to the vets in case he had concussion!
I love spiders but don’t like their webs.

Do you mean inches? Just that 4cm is tiny

Ah now, he’s not insignificant. I think calling him tiny is a bit unfair. 4 cm is a decent leg span. I can see him without my glasses on so he’s big enough. 🕷️😄

Lovely!

May I show you my friend I made back in May, now AWOL, Billie Big Balls?

What a chonk he is. Very shapely legs though.

wait… is that an acceptable way to talk about a Spider? Do I need to go on a spider awareness course? 🤔🫢

We keep a stash of plastic cups and a piece of light cardboard in various places around the house just in case we see one of our big ones. Cup over top, slide paper underneath, dump outside. I could never sleep once seeing that nearby.

Poshjock · 29/08/2023 01:53

He’s tucked in the back of my bedside cabinet so I can’t get a cup over him. I normally move bigger ones outside. He won’t find any food or lady friends in here so this really isn’t the place for him.

well, I opened this thread hoping for a stranger’s cat on a bed. I’m very afraid of speeders (though I can’t hurt them either) so it’s a bit like aversion therapy, everyone telling their admiring stories and being so rational is really sweet 🕷️

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 29/08/2023 02:44

I dropped a huge spider out of my bedroom window last week and actually heard him hit the porch roof below. There are some absolute whoppers about at the moment.

The outdoor ones are much prettier - saw this wasp spider on a walk the other day.

That's an absolute stunner. I get the tiny bright green spiders on plants in my garden- always a thrill to find them. My favourites are the big fat bodied orb spiders. They have such lovely markings, and the webs are things of beauty. And of course my house is full of spiders (and webs...).

LemonTreeSkies · 29/08/2023 04:00

I have a Black Widow right outside my front door. DH has been instructed to leave her alone. I like to think she’s stopping the nasties coming in. I don’t mi d biders indoors but prefer they stay out of my bedroom.

RantyAnty · 29/08/2023 04:38

Lots of beauts.

Never thought I'd say it, but I miss the occasional hunty running across my face in the middle of night.

HollieHobbie · 29/08/2023 06:17

Not the best image (and please ignore the minging carpet!) but this fella was in my bedroom last week. He's called Derek. He's got a twin whom I last saw in the dining room yesterday. It's nearly September, indoor spider season.

What beauties! I like Derek best because he looks a bit untidy, though!

Yes, you can book one on the web Blush

It's just occurred to me that like all of you, I always think of spiders as being male and name them accordingly.

Perhaps that's why they're trying to grab our attention? They're trying to raise their profile - fighting for lady spider recognition?

GarlicGrace · 29/08/2023 15:44

Well, I liked your joke, @WhateverMate 😂 It's got legs.

The wandering spiders are males (usually). They go looking for females and after mating, they die. Talk about being desperate for sex!

AvocadotoastORahouse · 29/08/2023 15:57

Too fucking late the photo came up automatically for me - aaaaarrrggghhhhhhh

IrresponsiblyCertainAboutSexualDimorphism · 29/08/2023 17:28

I had to rescue a fairly small one from inside the shower cubicle yesterday. It (or at least a moving blob - no specs in the shower) was abseiling recklessly from the shelf. I’m quite proud that he was only slightly damp when I put him on the windowsill plant.

There are at least 3 of the same species on the hunt for luuurve in the bathroom at the moment. I hope they find (momentary at least) happiness.

Comeoncarol · 29/08/2023 18:01

This little beauty was on my washing basket.

Jesus fucking Christ.

I'm so jealous of all of you that have commented that aren't scared of spiders. I'm bloody terrified of them!

MissHarrietBede · 29/08/2023 18:24

On the washing basket? Will he find a nice clean lady spider for luuurve, or will she deter gent?

No I think they'll get married and become newlywebs 😄

Me too!

I had a big one that was up my dressing gown sleeve - I was wearing it at the time! 😬

If that wasn't bad enough, I got up one morning and found another big bugger in the bed! I must have laid on it during the night because the poor thing, I say that loosely was a bit squashed.
