Can anyone ID this spider for me? It's just strolled across the carpet like it owns the place, and I've never seen one quite like it before...

Google is telling me it's a brown recluse spider, common in North America and also venomous and now I am shitting myself (caught it in a glass and threw it in the garden)... are there more??? Has it got mates?????? Babies?!

Eeeeeeeekkk. Oh and I am fucking terrified of spiders, it's taken a lot of bravado and general 'oh look a teeny tiny spider' (no-one else to deal with the fuckers here and dd is only five and don't want to pass on my terror to her) whilst internally screaming...

That's a mouse spider isn't it?

Pushpull · 24/08/2023 21:10

I have no id help but I wanted to say well done for dealing with it. I'd have thought he's pretty unlikely to have a whole host of mates whatever he is!!!

heldinadream · 24/08/2023 21:10

Doris. Doris the spider.

Arachnophobic, so pictures viewed at arms length! May have made a mistake.

But I tried learning all about spiders as a technique to overcome the arachnophobia - didn't work - so I'm pretty confident that's what it is.

Cannot believe I am sitting here looking at these pics...

No, not a mouse spider I don't think, too spindly (yet also bloody fucking enormous) 😫😫😫 also had distinctive violin shaped body and weird eye things, just like the pic of the brown recluse...

Oh god. I actually would cry if it wouldn't wake dd up...

I think it might be a stone spider? Looks like one that fell on my face in our shed and took 15 years off my life.

SoCentralRain · 24/08/2023 21:15

What is it with all the spider threads on here? It’s a spider, leave it alone and it won’t hurt you. Simple.

Doris. Doris the spider.

Don't be silly.

She's called Bessie.

Big Bum Bessie.

She's nothing to worry about, OP. She's not a North American spider because you aren't living in North America. She might be living rather disgruntled in the North of your garden now - but she's not American.

Tisfortired · 24/08/2023 21:17

I’m not sure but we have had loads of this browny bulbous spiders in the past few weeks! I had a friend in the kitchen window who has been catching all the fruit flies (fine) but today found one in baby DS sun hat 😱 (not fine)

But I have seen maybe 4 or 5 of them in the last few weeks.

HelpaFriend85 · 24/08/2023 21:18

We had this one a couple of days ago! Massive

It's false widow season, we had warning leaflets through the door. We have one in the conservatory could it be one?

No.

Who's sending 'warning leaflets' - Rentokil?

HelpaFriend85 · 24/08/2023 21:19

Sorry to derail your thread but does anyone know ours? DH chased it out the back door!

Floppyfrog · 24/08/2023 21:21

I think it's a mouse spider. We get them living in the lid of our wheelie bins

whatamess100 · 24/08/2023 21:22

I'd have to burn my house down

WhootDaFook · 24/08/2023 21:22

Why am I compelled to click on threads where I know there’s gonna be spider pictures??

bangbangcauliflower · 24/08/2023 21:22

No def not a false widow, I know this because I had to remove a massive fuck off one from the landing the other day, and we have a few others lurking about the place. Although they mostly have the decency to stay where they are and hide when they sense people.

After the suggestion of stone spider I am feeling slightly more reassured, but still not entirely convinced as apparently there were some hanging out in the UK in 2021, causing horrific and septic injury to people...

Why am I under siege?? Why???????

bangbangcauliflower · 24/08/2023 21:24

@WhootDaFook I know 😫 I've just been zooming in and comparing spider pictures, and I don't know if I mentioned it before, but I am FUCKING TERRIFIED OF SPIDERS....

OP posts:
bangbangcauliflower · 24/08/2023 21:36

Fuck my actual life. Felt calm enough to go back downstairs and let the dog out, who was barking so thought she needed a wee...

GUESS WHO WAS BLOODY PRANCING ABOUT ON THE KITCHEN FLOOR????? 🤮🤮🤮🤮😭😭😭

Sorry to say that Betty big bollocks or whatever she's called is no more...

Omg, I actually want to leave the house and go to a hotel. I cannot cope 😭😭😭

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 24/08/2023 21:37

I think the sticky out eye bits just mean it's a boy don't they? I forget what they're called. Spider willies, basically.

LilyRed · 24/08/2023 21:38

I also believe it is a mouse spider - we had one in our previous house which would trundle by me at the dining table most evenings. Far preferable to having to deal with the mice in the house as well!🐁

questionersquestion · 24/08/2023 21:46

It could be a mouse spider, but is the front of it reddish, if so it could be a woodlouse spider.

bangbangcauliflower · 24/08/2023 21:48

Nope not red. It's all (well it was before I launched a croc at it) mostly one colour, light brown, legs slightly darker but not segmented...
