Do you see people shrugging?

People used to shrug more when I was younger. Im sure if it.
I never see people shrugging anymore. I don't shrug either.
Do you shrug?

Such a random question but no I can’t remember the last time I shrugged or saw anyone shrug. Maybe ‘I dunno’ has replaced shrugging 😂

notprincehamlet · 24/08/2023 21:03

I'm a shrugger. I love to shrug. But yes I fear it's a dying art here. Still going strong in France (bof).

Missedmytoe · 24/08/2023 21:04

I do! I enjoy a good shrug of the shoulders

Toloveandtowork · 24/08/2023 21:10

Maybe our shoulders are so tensed up all the time that they are not very shruggable anymore.

Draconis · 24/08/2023 21:10

A friend sent me a message with the shrugging emoji on it and I thought 'does everyone understand this shrugging emoji when people don't tend to shrug anymore?'

Me, my husband and the kids are all shruggers.

ItsMyUkelele · 24/08/2023 21:15

I'm in bed and did a little shrug, just to see.

You're right. It DOES seem like a long time since Ive done this 😂

RaininSummer · 24/08/2023 21:21

You are right. Must shrug more. The word 'shrug' has lost all meaning now that I have read it so many times in the thread ... Shrug shrug shrug.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 24/08/2023 21:24

I think you're right. I used to shrug a lot, I just had a little practice and it seemed unfamiliar. I'm also in public so probably looked a bit odd Grin

I think I tend to do a sort of downturned mouth, slightly raised eyebrows slight head tilt now instead of a shrug. It's less weird looking than it sounds. I hope.

You're right. I'm going to make a conscious effort to shrug more!

(I must do it sometimes because my 6 year old does does a good "I don't know" shrug)

DarkPsy · 24/08/2023 21:28

Ex dp is Greek and shrugging is a way of life. I've adopted it, complete with 'Ehh' and turning the corners of the mouth downwards to show nonchalance/unbotheredness.

OhLookIveChangedMyNameAgain · 24/08/2023 21:32

It does feel odd when I just did it so I think you are right, I don’t shrug either.

ImthatBoleyngirl · 24/08/2023 21:34

I do!

Legomania · 24/08/2023 21:35

I might have as a teen, I guess in the UK it's considered a bit rude. I do do the facial expression that @GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut describes, perhaps accompanied by a twitch of the shoulders

sashagabadon · 24/08/2023 21:39

Sadly it is considered rude I think which is a shame. Kids doing it at adults is rude and adults doing it to each other could also be quite rude depending on the circumstances. But I do intend to shrug more as actually it’s a useful gesture like eye rolling. Better than words sometimes!

UnctuousUnicorns · 24/08/2023 21:43

🤷‍♀️

Winnading · 24/08/2023 21:46

It appears I haven't shrugged in some time. But my shoulders are permanently at ear height so may be that's why.
I do however say "meh" an awful lot. Maybe this is now my shrug?
Somewhere in the far reaches of my wardrobe are two tshirts that say, free shrugs.

Might dig em out.

TreesAtSea · 24/08/2023 22:07

I'm a proud shrugger🙂
Shall have to keep an eye out for fellow shruggers tomorrow.

Hazey19 · 24/08/2023 22:09

Ah I love this question. It made me smile and also do a shrug at the same time, but no I don’t think I ever shrug. Maybe I’ll take it up now.

Lindy2 · 24/08/2023 22:12

I think I'm more of a head tilter and frowner than a shrugger. I plan to make sure I do at least a couple of shrugs tomorrow though.

coxesorangepippin · 24/08/2023 22:19

Shrugging is a french thing too

They don't really roll their eyes much like Brits

becarefulofyourheart · 24/08/2023 22:29

does my nut😂

Haha and me 😂

FlamingYam · 24/08/2023 22:37

Blimey! I forgot about the actual motion. PP is correct, it's been replaced with "I dunno". Shrugging seems to be the same as that sound your speakers used to make when your phone was about to go off. Just upped and vanished and we all forgot.
