People used to shrug more when I was younger. Im sure if it.
I never see people shrugging anymore. I don't shrug either.
Do you shrug?

Also tried a shrug in bed. Odd. Will try and fit some in tomorrow.

Draconis · 24/08/2023 23:02

Love the idea of people fitting in a shrug into their day.

My ex has a really annoying habit (one of hundreds) of shrugging after about every 3rd word when he tells a story.

Steve Coogan Shrug GIF

I do an Alan Partridge shrug when my partner starts talking about certain sports

Stolengnome · 24/08/2023 23:49

I'm a shrugger when the need arises. Also popped a shrug emoji in a message to my mum about half an hour ago. It's not something I see often though, no idea why 🤷‍♀️😁

Welcomer · 24/08/2023 23:49

Thank you for this gift of a thread.

Pimpmyfeet · 25/08/2023 00:09

People seem to shrug all the time in novels

Catsmere · 25/08/2023 00:21

I shrug a lot but I don't notice whether others do. I'm not around people that much except passing on the street, shops etc and I don't expect anyone does it much there.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 25/08/2023 00:26

I shrug, my family shrugs, my son shrugs to an annoying degree. It's not just the shoulders, there are a variety of facial expressions and palm rotations which denote puzzlement or disbelief or lack of giving a shit or acceptance of the will of God, among many other emotions.

Italianasoitis · 25/08/2023 00:30

I live in Italy which is a nation of shruggers. I shrug more than ever. Don't actually think i shrugged much before but definitely love a deep shrug now. I pull a face at the same time.

BoatsAndHoes · 25/08/2023 00:30

Shrug doesn't look like a real word anymore after reading through this thread. Shrug.

WouldYouLikeYourMuffinButtered · 25/08/2023 00:33

I used to work with someone who shrugged when he laughed...he was such a jolly person. You've just reminded me of him🙂

Mmhmmn · 25/08/2023 00:40

Toloveandtowork · 24/08/2023 21:10

Maybe our shoulders are so tensed up all the time that they are not very shruggable anymore.

Haha, totally this.

elifont · 25/08/2023 00:51

Shrugging only works when we actually look at each other in conversation. If you actually note how many times a day we talk but one party is looking at their phone or trying to communicate with someone else at the same time it's actually shocking. Just tell one story I can guarantee the other person will glance at phone. Most will stop you to reply to a text now

the80sweregreat · 25/08/2023 05:23

Ds1 does a great shrug. He is very laid back and generally shrugs everything off anyway!

CostedStrikeRate · 25/08/2023 06:03

I blame the Internet

HorsePlatitudes · 25/08/2023 06:05

I will shrug today! Thanks for the reminder OP! 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Doingmybest12 · 25/08/2023 06:13

Thank you for the thread, I too have had a little shrug this morning .

bladebladebla1 · 25/08/2023 06:14

Oh my god that's so funny you say this because my 5 year old shrugged yesterday after I asked why he did (insert naughty thing) and I was baffled, I said "and what is this" (and did the action back to him) and he shrugged again and said "what" ?

I've got a shrugger so it's fine

All hail chief shrugger

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 25/08/2023 07:55

Just tried to shrug… I think you could be on to something. But I’ve always been more of a head tilter than a shrugger.

ooh, combining a head tilt (to the right) with a little shrug actually does seem more natural to me than a “solo” shrug.😂

BitOutOfPractice · 25/08/2023 07:59

I thought you were being ridiculous op but, having done a practice shrug, I think you’re right. I can’t remember my last full-on shrug. It’s made me a bit sad somehow. It turns out I miss shrugging 🤷‍♀️

legalseagull · 25/08/2023 08:03

I'm vowing to shrug today now.

Giggorata · 25/08/2023 08:09

I shrug but my shrugs include a complex set of facial expressions, head movements and hand gestures, depending on how much I wish to detach myself from the subject.
Apart from the basic “I dunno” shrug.
DH does seem to find it a bit rude and annoying, so it’s not a bad argument tactic.

I will definitely shrug today on purpose, in a minute in fact, when I get up.
And I have the word weirdness thing going on now, too. Shrug.
There aren't that many words beginning with “shr”, so that helps.

Taxiii · 25/08/2023 08:14

I am definitely a facial shrugger & the emoji is at the top of my 'recently used'.

But I shall endeavour to shoulder shrug more.

Thank you for the timely reminder to keep the shrug alive in the UK.
