Is there anything more humbling than seeing yourself in the self-checkout camera?

I sashay out of the house feeling like Margot Robbie and then an hour later catch sight of myself in one of those cameras looking like a bewildered goblin.

I get that theft is clearly a big issue at the self-checkouts, but couldn’t they have considered how detrimental this is to my ego?

Ahaha absolutely, especially during the holidays we have 5 kids so I go out knowing full well I look like a goblin but defiently rude to remind me when I’m paying for my shopping

Same feeling when I switch to camera on my phone and the "selfie" one is always on.

Caught a look at myself this morning and was looking as rough as a badgers backside.

They are the best way to get rid of customers in years. I try to avoid shops which have them tbh

The joys of being short, all I see on those camera's is the top of my head, although that's not great as my once lovely thick hair has definitely got thinner thanks to the perimenopause, yay!

I keep thinking I'll see myself inserted into some police reality tv programme looking like a hardened criminal committing some incriminating purchase. Not the ambience to encourage you to spend more money or enjoy the experience of shopping really.

I get from the nose up and look more like an anxious chad. I am average height!

I don't think the one in our Asda works properly, there seems to be a picture of a bonkers old woman on it...

The ones in my local Co-op were obviously set up by some sort of cinematographic genius. I am old and haggard, with blood-shot eyes and many, many chins...but in the Co-op self service camera I am positively bewitching - wrinkle free, with shiny eyes and lovely, luminous skin. I spend ages faffing over my purchases because of this. It's brilliant.

Oh absolutely. See also when your bank asks for facial recognition for an app payment and it always takes the picture when your eyes are half shut and really close up

I've noticed this too! Co-Op has the best (most flattering) cameras, followed by Tesco, then Lidl, and finally Asda where they are HORRENDOUS.

I look at the picture and wonder why my mother has suddenly appeared in front of me.

I look hot in the Sainsbury's ones and appalling in the Asda ones.

They need to get this right

I just came on to say the ones at the co-op near my work are really flattering. I think they are slimming as my normally round face looks more oval & the lighting is really good. I leave feeling excellent, then see myself in the mirrors at work!

I hate cameras of every sort , cameras hate me.
I happened to see myself in a car mirror ( interior ) one the other day and was shocked at the grey hairs etc !! I looked awful
Mirrors are best avoided
