Give me a non alcoholic drink that isn’t awful

Just that - got to attend various barbecues etc at the weekend where everyone else will be drinking except me. What can I drink? Non alcoholic wine is awful. Tried nozzeco and hated it, thought about non alcoholic gin but it’s the same price as the real thing so would need to be worth it!

any other ideas? Zero beer is ok but I can’t drink more than one.

thanks!

I drink Gordon's non-alcoholic gin and it tastes exactly the same as the real thing. Highly recommended. Fever Tree tonics are lovely, they do several flavours. Make it all into a long drink with ice and bits of fruit, and away you go.

⬆️ this. Also Martini Vibrante (0.5% alcohol) with bitter lemon tonic or tonic water.

Agree with previous poster about tonic without the gin. Even better with a slice of lime.

I've always much preferred soft drinks to alcohol-free 'equivalents' of alcoholic drinks, which just aren't the same (though low-alcohol beer comes much, much closer than the others).

I saw something on Saturday Kitchen last weekend. It was Dry Dragon Sparkling Tea. The all raved about it.

I don't think Gordon's 0% gin is anything like the real thing. I'd much rather have plain tonic!

caerdydd12 · 22/08/2023 15:40

Lyres italian spritz (with lemonade) is as close to a non alcoholic aperol spritz as I can find.

Cawston Press rhubarb is nice and fizzy but not overly sweet.

Yes I love Cawstons and frequently dilute with a little fizzy water

Just sense checking on the zero Gordon’s gin - i was persuaded to buy nozecco previously - but it was awful!- is it really that good?

@Ilikeviognier personally think its awful. Big gin drinker. Have tried most of the 0% gins and I would rather have a good tonic with ice and grapefruit/orange/juniper berries in it. The only one I have found drinkable, and actually fairly pleasant is the Clean & Co zero alcohol gin. They also do a rhubarb if you like a flavoured gin.

gogomoto · 22/08/2023 15:42

Elderflower spritz eg bottle green? Personally I just drink decent tonic

Thatchers zero cider is really nice, and hits the mark well for bbq.

I like a non alcoholic mojito as the lime and mint are nice and sharp. There is a Robinsons lime and mint cordial which is lovely made up with fizzy water

That Robinson's cordial is gorgeous with ice and Indian tonic. I have it alot.

I love peach iced tea, or the san Pellegrino blood orange or limonata cans , really refreshing

St Clements.

Fever Tree Rhubarb & Raspberry tonic. Served cold is gorgeous.

gosh yes I’m with you on this!

OP, I found the alcohol free gins disappointing and tasteless. Slightly flavoured very expensive water.

Ilikeviognier · 22/08/2023 16:11

Thanks all. Some good ideas in there!

I've tried the non alcoholic gin, it tastes of nothing much but has a gin type smell, not worth the money IMO. Some alcohol free largers are nice if you like that type of drink?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 22/08/2023 16:12

San Pellegrino tonic waters. Really nice even without a slug of gin in them.

inomniaparatis · 22/08/2023 16:14

I can't remember the name of it now but there's a soft drink version of Aperol which you mix with soda water and it's lovely (if you like Aperol!)

RitzyMcFitzy · 22/08/2023 16:14

The price of non-alcoholic 'spirits' is bonkers imo

Ginmonkeyagain · 22/08/2023 16:16

@inomniaparatis Crodino - Lidl also do a version under their Italiamo brand just called aperitivo.

nomeslice · 22/08/2023 16:17

I asked for a non alcoholic beer shandy in the pub the other day. It was surprisingly refreshing.

Trip. The green one

I also came to say trip, but I like the pink (elderflower and mint) best- reminds me of mojitos!

inomniaparatis · 22/08/2023 16:18

@Ginmonkeyagain thanks, that was it! Might need to try that Lidl one too

Diospyros · 22/08/2023 16:20

If you like Aperol or Campari, the Italian non-alcoholic aperitivo drinks are amazing eg San Bitter or Crodino. Personally, I prefer San Bitter but they are both good.

Ginmonkeyagain · 22/08/2023 16:20

I tend to use it as a mixer for gin 😊

But it is nice on its own as well.
