How many beach towels for 1 week holiday?

Ok 1 week pool holiday abroad, how many pool/beach towels would you take?

Its been a bit of a discussion point at home (a few neighbours have just been on holiday stand have been hanging their washing out).

Neighbour 1: 6 beach/pool towels (at least)
Neighbour 2: 9 pairs of shorts (they look to be fleece type ones and definitely not swimming shorts)
Neighbour 3: at least 6 swimming costumes

I ask out of general curiosity as we take a couple of swimwear items and hand-wash through each day....just 6 towels seems excessive - but maybe its us that's different.

You forgot to mention how big every family is and how old.

All alone. All late 60s or early 70s

One per person.

One per person, we usually have somewhere with a machine though so usually they get a clean every few days. 2/3 swimming costumes that get rinsed in the shower each night and hung to dry.

I find it really hard to believe that anyone would take 6 pool towels on a 1 week holiday for 1 person.

And it’s a cracking coincidence that you have 3 neighbours of similar age, who have all just returned from a 1 week holiday alone. What a missed opportunity to save on accommodation cost!

Plus… when I’m 60+ no way am I paying school holiday prices!

This post is just… bizarre!

AlltheFs · 22/08/2023 00:11

I like to have 2 per person but take 1 if luggage weight is an issue.

I like to have one to lie on and one to dry with at the pool. But I can cope with 1 if I have to.

pizzaHeart · 22/08/2023 00:19

We usually take one each for 7- 10 days.
Also you can get towels at your hotel and then change them when you need to.

Yep!

multivac · 22/08/2023 00:22

We take a microfibre towel each. No matter how long the holiday!

Maddy70 · 22/08/2023 00:33

I rarely pack one. Buy one when you're there saves luggage space

sxary · 22/08/2023 00:35

None, I use the hotel towels.

fridaynight1 · 22/08/2023 00:45

Can't you use the hotel's towels?

Yfory · 22/08/2023 00:53

Where do you live that you've got so many single neighbours that have all been on holiday (during the school holidays - ergo more expensive) to holiday places that have pools (Ive never been to one!) and have all hung their washing out such that you can notice it, see it and count whats on the line??
Questions questions.

SpaceRaiders · 22/08/2023 00:57

None, hotels have towels. Madness to waste suitcase space by packing towels.

cocksstrideintheevening · 22/08/2023 00:58

There are a lot of hotels that don't have towels. One pp for a week.

PSBorNormal · 22/08/2023 07:05

If none in the hotel, for a week I would take 2 per person plus 2 spare. My DC have a habit of dropping them on the changing room floor and I'm not going to dry my face with that!

reluctantbrit · 22/08/2023 07:33

For hotels - we take one per person plus the hotel ones so we have a dry one to lie on and one to towel off. If space is an issue we take the microfibre ones but they aren't good to soften a hard sunlounger.

Lots of hotels now charge for changing towels or restrict how often you can swap them, even 4-5* ones.

S/C - I normally try just one but we always book with a washing machine so everything is bunked in in the evening for a quick wash, so we can get away with just one.

Swiming costumes - two per person.

LubaLuca · 22/08/2023 07:48

So only one neighbour took towels, one took shorts and another took swimsuits. Maybe they combine their washing and they'd all taken a couple of each thing.

I don't really know what you're asking. Do you want to know if your neighbours are weird, or are you genuinely interested in towel standards?

StarlightLady · 22/08/2023 07:50

One microfibre towel per person! It would never occur to me to take more. If you are going somewhere warm and have an outside area, you can handwash it and it will dry overnight; thats what l do on longer trips.

But l always go carry on, even when l have a hold luggage allowance included. Take a look at the missing bag statistics.

QueSyrahSyrah · 22/08/2023 07:52

One microfibre towel at most, to save carrying a bulky hotel pool towel to the beach or on a boat trip. Don't recall staying in a hotel that didn't supply them.

How do you know the neighbour took 6, and isn't just washing their whole collection since they're washing one or two?

Weird thread.

I think the OP made it up just to get attention. It's quite sad really.

CalistoNoSolo · 22/08/2023 08:20

Another batshit thread this morning. Who takes towels on holiday?

Doggymummar · 22/08/2023 08:21

We tend to rent them when we get there

HeddaGarbled · 22/08/2023 08:24

None. I use the ones provided at the resort. I haven’t got room in my case for towels.

Sunshineandrainbow · 22/08/2023 08:31

Those people that don't take one.
Would you take hotel one to the beach?
