How many beach towels for 1 week holiday?

Ok 1 week pool holiday abroad, how many pool/beach towels would you take?

Its been a bit of a discussion point at home (a few neighbours have just been on holiday stand have been hanging their washing out).

Neighbour 1: 6 beach/pool towels (at least)
Neighbour 2: 9 pairs of shorts (they look to be fleece type ones and definitely not swimming shorts)
Neighbour 3: at least 6 swimming costumes

I ask out of general curiosity as we take a couple of swimwear items and hand-wash through each day....just 6 towels seems excessive - but maybe its us that's different.

1 each, we use microfibre ones so don't take up much space.

How could you travel abroad with 8 normal towels for a family of 4, you'd have no space for anything else!

Whereisthesun2023 · 22/08/2023 08:46

I never take towels, just buy there.
I have about 6 or 7 bikinis (not all new)

Those people that don't take one.
Would you take hotel one to the beach?

Some hotels provide white ones for the room and coloured ones for the pool or beach.

Another batshit thread this morning. Who takes towels on holiday?

Confused Well anyone who's not staying in a hotel, for starters! I'm 51 and have never gone on holiday without beach towels if I'm going to the coast. Self-catering properties usually have bathroom towels but not beach towels. And if you're camping you need to take both! Taking more than one beach towel per person is bonkers though imo.

CarPour · 22/08/2023 08:51

Most hotels don't provide beach towels? I think I've stayed in one that did?

I take 2 beach towels each. So one can dry and one can be used. I'm not hand washing anything on holiday!

ZenNudist · 22/08/2023 08:52

I take 2 but that's because I like lightweight towels for days out and fluffy ones for by the pool. Handy for reserving pool towels.

StarlightLady · 22/08/2023 08:53

From Margate to Bondi and lots of places in between you will find people on holiday , enjoying the beach. And guess what, they have towels.

We don’t all spend each day in an corporate an all inclusive complex that does nothing for the local economy.

l travel a lot for work and if it’s coastal, l take a microfibre towel with me foe leisure time.

I find it really hard to believe that anyone would take 6 pool towels on a 1 week holiday for 1 person.

And it’s a cracking coincidence that you have 3 neighbours of similar age, who have all just returned from a 1 week holiday alone. What a missed opportunity to save on accommodation cost!

Plus… when I’m 60+ no way am I paying school holiday prices!

This post is just… bizarre!

Six towels in your luggage for a week? Especially when more and more people try to keep their luggage allowance down to less than one hold bag each (so shared hold luggage).

Try getting 24 beach towels into two holiday suitcases for a family of four!

Two each max. One wet, one dry.

PinkTonic · 22/08/2023 09:09

We take a haman towel each because we use the hotel pool towels and we don’t go to the beach that much. I do take about 5 bikinis though plus a couple of extra bottoms as I like to mix and match and I don’t like putting damp ones back on if I go for a wee.

gingercat02 · 22/08/2023 09:12

One beach towel each (only for beach pool towels normally provided) 2 swimming costumes each. Clothes depends where we are going.

Coincidence or not...but they are all siblings.

I wouldn't pay school hol prices either (I hadn't thought of that) it's none of my business. Just the amount of bits they've taken seems excessive...was only curious as to if it was normal (we don't take that much - but it doesn't mean we are normal either).

So only one neighbour took towels, one took shorts and another took swimsuits. Maybe they combine their washing and they'd all taken a couple of each thing.

I don't really know what you're asking. Do you want to know if your neighbours are weird, or are you genuinely interested in towel standards?

Genuinely interested to see what the "norm is". They definitely didn't share the washing as its all in their respective gardens and towels were in each garden (just 6 was next door) plus the ones in the other gardens.

Dipsydoodlenoodle · 22/08/2023 09:26

Sorry, everyone its a really weird post. I was just genuinely interested in what the "norm" is for most people. Nothing more, nothing less....and genuinely wondering how else they fitted anything else in their case with 6 towels!

I know its holiday by holiday.

one per person.
we have those thin microfibre swimming ones.
they dry overnight if it needs (hand) washing over night.

Peony654 · 22/08/2023 09:38

Just use the hotels. If camping, one per person. And 2-3 swimsuits

Magenta65 · 22/08/2023 09:44

We take 2 each. Will use the hotel towels to dry off after getting out the pool/sun cream hands and uses ours to sit on. Also take at least 3 bikinis and 1/2 swimsuits. Might not use them all but nice to have the option. I’m an over packer and will use all my weight limit. DP will take and outfit for each day. Enough swim shorts for each day (minimum of 6/7 pairs) and a few spares.

LBOCS2 · 22/08/2023 10:10

One beach towel per person. Two or three (depending on what's in their drawer/fits!) changes of swimwear.

We rinse swimwear in the sink and let it dry each day, and just reuse the towel. I'm not washing towels on holiday!

MrsCarson · 22/08/2023 10:11

We usually take one per person, or just use the towels at the hotel pool.
I've been wanting to get one of those Hamman towels as they are nice and thin to pack. I hate the feel of the microfibre ones.

minipie · 22/08/2023 10:15

I never take towels, just buy there.

What do you do with it when you leave? Bin it?

LoobyDop · 22/08/2023 11:36

One hamman towel each to go on loungers and one fluffy one for drying off. Just the hamman ones if we’re in a hotel that provides them.

Yfory · 22/08/2023 14:26

@tescocreditcard agreed. Or for the Daily Fail.

blobby10 · 22/08/2023 14:47

Usually camping so one bath/shower towel and one beach towel per person. Beach towels get used by everyone depending on which is on the top as you come out of the sea (and need to warm up as its England)!! Couldn't be doing with washing and drying stuff on holiday - no one has to be that clean!

TinkerbellefromYorkshire · 22/08/2023 15:31

One beach towel per person.. we always stay in a villa with washing machine.
Sometimes the accommodation provides them too along with your bath/ shower towels.

PaperBlinds · 22/08/2023 15:34

On beach holiday now. Only brought one beach towel each. Wish we had brought two. With pool and beach swims they are permanently damp.

Rewis · 22/08/2023 15:37

Sunshineandrainbow · 22/08/2023 08:31

Those people that don't take one.
Would you take hotel one to the beach?

Yes. Or if not allowed then I'd buy a shitty one from the tourist crap shop.
