How many beach towels for 1 week holiday?

Ok 1 week pool holiday abroad, how many pool/beach towels would you take?

Its been a bit of a discussion point at home (a few neighbours have just been on holiday stand have been hanging their washing out).

Neighbour 1: 6 beach/pool towels (at least)
Neighbour 2: 9 pairs of shorts (they look to be fleece type ones and definitely not swimming shorts)
Neighbour 3: at least 6 swimming costumes

I ask out of general curiosity as we take a couple of swimwear items and hand-wash through each day....just 6 towels seems excessive - but maybe its us that's different.

I take 1 beach towel to dry me plus a hamman towel to lay on, which also doubles up as a sarong. I also take magic leaves washing sheets so can wash the thinner towel and hang out to dry on the balcony overnight

I don't take any. If the hotel don't supply them, I buy a cheap towel or sarong type thing for the beach, and leave it behind.

A microfibre towel each for pool and another for beach and hand wash!!!

(So 2 per person!)

1 towel per person and 2/3 swimming suits each.

One of the weirdest market research posts I've seen yet on mums net.

I find it really hard to believe that anyone would take 6 pool towels on a 1 week holiday for 1 person.

And it’s a cracking coincidence that you have 3 neighbours of similar age, who have all just returned from a 1 week holiday alone. What a missed opportunity to save on accommodation cost!

Plus… when I’m 60+ no way am I paying school holiday prices!

This post is just… bizarre!

Likewise. It's very odd...

Beach towels: I per person
Swimwear: 2 per person for trips over 3 days (1 for less than that)
Outfits: 1 per day

Usually I'm travelling by motorcycle so I actually take half the outfits and wash half way through!

gogomoto · 22/08/2023 19:25

(Should add mine are the thin microfibre ones!)

Kymzi91 · 22/08/2023 19:27

I mean, we are a family of 6 and I take one towel each and a couple of spares 🤷‍♀️
If it is literally a pool holiday where that's pretty much all you're doing then maybe take 2-3 towels and sets of swimwear each?

Doone21 · 22/08/2023 20:25

1 towel each, shake it out and hang up to dry every night
1 swimming cossie each, rinse out and hang up to dry every night

maddiemookins16mum · 22/08/2023 20:31

I don’t take beach towels, I have a stock of aging colourful beach sarongs purchased over the last 20 odd years that serve the same purpose (and take up much less space). I take 4.

Lostthewilltolive1970 · 23/08/2023 20:45

We're going to Florida next month and won't be taking any. I'll buy one each from the local tat shop and leave them behind when we leave.

SmudgeButt · 24/08/2023 04:05

Big assumption that single 60+ yo going on holiday were staying alone!! Maybe they were meeting up with a cousin or their several lovers. And 6 towels were needed for hygiene for a load of beach sex.

(I always get towels from the hotel, clean daily. 1 bathing suit)

CarPour · 24/08/2023 07:33

Thing is if I was single in my 60s I may take a beach towel for everyday. There's nothing wrong with it it just seems too much effort to pack and wash to take 6 each.

Maybe they fly business class and have more luggage allowance? Maybe they're quire happy to pay for an extra case? Beach towels are personal preference

Passthecake30 · 24/08/2023 07:38

Usually 2 each for a fortnight if they fit, if it’s a combined beach/pool holiday.

TheBewilderedGoblin · 24/08/2023 07:41

I never pack a towel - day one of the holiday I walk to a local shop and buy one with the resort/country name and design and use that. It’s like my own little souvenir.
