Sara Sharif

Sara, aged 10, was found dead in the family home.

The police "want to speak" with Sara's father and his partner, who flew to Pakistan the day before Sara's body was found, and then phoned (don't know who) from there:

The call led officers to the house in Woking where they found the body of Sara who had sustained "multiple and extensive injuries", likely to have been caused over a sustained period of time.

Another child suffers at the hands of those who should care. I hope they get them back from Pakistan but I wonder what the chances of that are.

RIP, Sara.

My niece always turns up to parties wearing makeup, she’s 8 nearly 9. She’s put it on herself so it’s all bright blue eye shadow and pink lipstick.

Lindy2 · 13/09/2023 08:26

I think the photo on the bed is where she is dressed up for an event. The outfit and earrings aren't usual day to day wear.

There's also a photo of her in a black outfit with a headband where she's wearing make up. That outfit is for an Egyptian dress up day at school so fancy dress.

Other than the pictures shown by her mum which were obviously taken years ago, there doesn't seem to be any photos of her just playing or just taken on an average day, which seems sad.

MrsWombat · 13/09/2023 10:54

Local press are reporting the three adults have been arrested. I'm guessing the British press are waiting for the official press conference.

It ends a month long manhunt

That sounds very hopeful @MrsWombat

Milomonster · 13/09/2023 11:20

It was only a matter of time given the 19th Sept court appearance. I hope these fuckers get everything they deserve. Poor Sara and the 5 kids in care in Pakistan. They have faced unimaginable trauma. I wonder what the legal implications for facing Justice are if the trio hold dual British-Pakistani nationality.

Milomonster · 13/09/2023 14:46

It’s being reported that the father and SM are on a flight to Gatwick - arrives this evening.
Credit to the Pakistani authorities (for once).

Efacsen · 13/09/2023 14:53

@Milomonster and the uncle too {BBC}

RosaMoline · 13/09/2023 14:53

I knew it only had to be a matter of time, that the net was closing since the update about their other remaining children.
This case is very local to me, less than three miles away.
Hope Sara receives justice.

ShipSpace · 13/09/2023 15:04

Tried to escape the British authorities; realised facing the authorities in Pakistan would be even worse; and back they come.

Milomonster · 13/09/2023 15:18

I wonder if some sort of bargain was struck about the 5 other kids being allowed back to the UK if the parents surrendered?

Surely the children are British citizens, so why would they not be allowed back?

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 13/09/2023 15:40

Good news they’ve finally been arrested. Well done to the Pakistani authorities in this case.

Milomonster · 13/09/2023 15:41

They have been taken into care in Lahore rather than handed to British authorities, hence, my question. The parents handed themselves in if their own free will. I wonder who is advocating for the kids. I sincerely hope they are brought back to the UK quickly and without a fight.

Startyabastard · 13/09/2023 15:44

I'm happy they actually got caught, I was worried they wouldn't.
See ya, wankers 👋

Efacsen · 13/09/2023 15:46

@Milomonster it says in the Guardian that the children cannot be released without a Court Order?

There's a photo on Twitter of SM and dad with a small child [4-ish] on ArabNews

Milomonster · 13/09/2023 15:50

Yes just reading that the Court ruled that the kids would be taken to a temp Pakistani care facility, but no mention of for how long or where their final destination would be. How devastating for them.

The British authorities will allow them back in, the question is if the Pakistani authorities will allow them back out.

They'll be dual nationals - all children of Pakistani nationals automatically are.

confusedlots · 13/09/2023 15:57

Maybe I've missed it,but has anything been said about Sara's mum? Where is she, has she been involved in Sara's life at all?

Why would the Pakistani government 'not allow' them to leave?

Surely much will depend on what happens when the adults arrive at Gatwick -who is arrested and who [if charged] is be kept on remand. If Sara's SM is released they can have a home with her or at least supervised contact?

So maybe best to stay in Pakistan until that becomes clear

They may deem that they're Pakistani citizens being adequately cared for in a Pakistani orphange, and so they don't need to be returned. They would potentially argue that the British authorities have already failed to keep Sara safe, and want to know how British authorities intend to care for their young citizens.

When you're a dual national and in one of the countries where you hold citizenship, your second citizenship becomes far less relevant; this was a big part of the Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe case.

The British authorities won't normally get involved in a case of a British & Pakistani citizen dealing with the Pakistani authorities, but will make an exception in certain circumstances, like child protection.

She's a Polish woman living in Somerset who lost custody for unknown reasons 4 years ago.

The children will be witnesses and also most likely victims so I am sure that much detail regarding what will be happening to them now regarding their care will not be made public.

Completely agree

And also they have a right to privacy and protection from press/SM speculation and intrusion

We have no right to know what is happening or even where they are

Goldflap · 13/09/2023 16:38

In fact they probably hold the key to exactly what has gone on whereas the adults have no doubt cobbled together a bullshit story or will no comment so actually interviewing the children especially the eldest son is probably going to be vital to the case.

I'm shocked but pleased. I'm wondering if they thought they'll come to the UK and hide behind lawyers, rather than get the crap beaten out of them by Pakistani police.
