Please could you have a look at this? Ground floor plan. If I moved to this house, where could I put a cat flap?

Is the front door the only door or does the sun room have a door to the outside?

Florence4170 · 20/08/2023 17:40

The difficulty is there is no back door, so nowhere obvious. I can't give her free rein at night, she has to be unable to get upstairs to me! I want her to be able to get to the garden which starts where the yellow mark is. I want units and an island ( marked in blue). If she went into the study overnight she wouldn't have access to food as she'll be fed in the utility room. There are bifolds from kitchen into sunroom and sunroom to garden. (Red and red). Could possibly do a tunnel into sunroom from utility but would still need to create a flap in a bifold. (Green and green)
No idea if all of this makes sense 😛

Front door is the only proper door. Sunroom has a wall on the left and bifolds.

We have had one in a window with a table in front of it and a chair outside.

Florence4170 · 20/08/2023 17:43

I have had one in a window before but it's a little bay and I don't really want to put it in the front of the house, I really rather fancy a window seat there ( bottom left).

We had a hole in the wall made and that works well

NannyGythaOgg · 20/08/2023 17:45

I did a double one through a wall. So one cat flap on the inside wall and one set into the brick on the outside.
They took a bit of persuading to use it at first but tuna fish enticed them through a couple of times and no problem after that.

Florence4170 · 20/08/2023 17:48

I have one through the wall now with a little platform for her to sit and survey 😀

Could you put it in the bi-folds? Our is in a glazed panel in our french doors

CatsOnTheChair · 20/08/2023 17:51

Does the left hand side of the sunroof have a wall? If so, get one put through the wall there.

Florence4170 · 20/08/2023 17:52

It would mean putting it in 2 sets of bifolds which I'd rather not.

Yes wall on left side of sunroom but she'd need to access the sunroom. Possible through utility room, actually, I think...

Thanks so much for your suggestions.

Lounge window?

Florence4170 · 20/08/2023 17:56

Lounge has 2 smallish, high windows plus bifolds into sunroom.

Is she allowed in the back right lounge?

Florence4170 · 20/08/2023 17:58

Yes she can go anywhere except my bedroom when I'm asleep. Trying to attach a photo of lounge.

I'm thinking maybe give her access into sunroom from utility room, then access outside through left hand wall of sunroom. Sorry, can't seem to attach photos.

OP posts:
Florence4170 · 20/08/2023 18:02

That was she can have the run of the kitchen, utility and sunroom at night.

cheezncrackers · 20/08/2023 18:03

I'd probably put on through the lounge wall into the garden. At night you could close the two doors into the hall that give access to the stairs, trapping the cat in that large open-plan area at the back of the house, with access to the utility room for food and drink.

JimmyJimmyJimmy · 20/08/2023 18:03

Could put it in the W/C window? Or does it have to be downstairs. We had a similar issue so put one int he bathroom window ontbhe 1st floor.

Florence4170 · 20/08/2023 18:07

Cheezncrackers it would mean leaving bifolds from lounge to kitchen open. Wc - she'd be able to get upstairs and bother me 🙄

My mum has a cat flap going through the conservatory wall. I don't think it's as thick as the rest of the walls though.
