Please make me feel better about my Voldemort cake... I spent three days on it and everything disintegrated in the humidity today

Humidity is 98% here today, really hot and damp - I left my fondant models to dry overnight (for ds2's birthday cake) and this morning it was carnage - heads falling off, cracks, bits melting everywhere. Have tried everything today to dry them out but it's been a nightmare, the Voldemort figure has sunk so he looks like a fat goblin, and Harry's hair is basically liquid. Am quite gutted really (autistic and a toxic perfectionist)

DH says it's fine, nobody but me knows what it was supposed to look like, and it's a cake ffs. So this is a shameless bid for attention, but please don't accuse me of "stealth boasting" because I'm not. I blubbed when Voldemort's head fell off.

Is there a photo?

Greensleeves · 18/08/2023 22:05

Photos would help

That looks amazing! I would never have guessed anything had happened to it, you should be very proud of that Smile I hope your DS has a lovely birthday party and is delighted with his cake!

Wait, what - that’s it after disintegrating?? That is a seriously impressive cake 😲

7Worfs · 18/08/2023 22:08

I don’t see any damage, it looks in prime condition

AutumnIsMyFriend · 18/08/2023 22:08

Love that cake

PleaseGiveMeBackMySummer · 18/08/2023 22:08

Yer just showing off ain't ya @Greensleeves ??? Grin

That's a fab cake!

lucysmam · 18/08/2023 22:09

Um, I see absolutely nothing wrong with those figures! If that's them after melting, I'd be well chuffed tbh; I'm crap at modelling so mine tend to feature bought props or flat things only!

itsmyp4rty · 18/08/2023 22:09

This must be a stealth boast - and you have every right to boast. That looks absolutely amazing!

RoseBucket · 18/08/2023 22:09

Did he faint, is that what you mean? Looks good though.

lizzaliza · 18/08/2023 22:09

What!!!! This is AMAZING 😮How did you even manage to make this?? Like Voldemort's outstretched wand??

This!!!!

Honestly if that's how it looks after it's all gone wrong then I'd be fucking delighted and I say hat as someone who genuinely fucked up the birthday cake for my child last year and my lovely mum made one instead because I was too much of a sobbing snotty mess to try again.

LegendsBeyond · 18/08/2023 22:11

That looks amazing. I love it.

Nicecupofteaforthree · 18/08/2023 22:12

I think from OP's first post, the phitos are of the cake before it fell apart. Maybe she was too distressed to do the after pics.

The wand is one of the things I was upset about....I'd made one out of gumpaste with all the carved markings and it melted! In the end I used a cocktail stick coloured brown with a couple of bumps made of fondant

I've made two wedding cakes and I would be seriously chuffed with myself for making that. How did you do the snake scales??

WaltzingWaters · 18/08/2023 22:12

It’s absolutely amazing!

It's really not. Voldemort was tall and elegant originally, he looks like a squat bullfrog in these photos!

Aaw, I was hoping for something that looked like a picasso that had been punched Sad

instead I see a very good cake!

Chichix · 18/08/2023 22:15

This is amazing!!!!!

Motherofalittledragon · 18/08/2023 22:16

That's a fantastic cake, I wish I had your talent.

Isthisjustnormal · 18/08/2023 22:17

Is this before or after? It’s an absolutely amazing cake! The Ngini (spelling) and the characterisation of Voldemort are especially good - they are totally recognisable but very much your own style. If this is before I can see why you’re gutted as what you created was a real peice of skill. If it’s an after, then you need to take a breath as it’s still an absolutely amazing creation - I can’t see a thing wrong!

SequinsandStiIettos · 18/08/2023 22:17

Star baker, OP. [Applauds]

Ukholidaysaregreat · 18/08/2023 22:18

Wow! What an amazing cake! Unusual angle in a party in that it is celebrating Voldemort and Harry is passed out!? Haha! Only joking! I love it and I'm sure your DC will too. Some one I know spent days making a Voldemort pinata from paper-mache and they were very dismayed on the day of the party that the children smashed it to pieces in seconds as they were in an ante Voldemort frenzy as part of the party. 🤣🤣🤣 Hope you party is similarly successful. Xxx

LeftyLou · 18/08/2023 22:21

Don't be too hard on yourself, OP. That looks genuinely amazing!

Hope your son has a lovely birthday! 😊
