Lucy Letby guilty

Lucy Letby has been convicted of the murder of seven babies and the attempted murder of six more.

My thoughts are with the families of the victims.

I’m curious why that in the years prior to LL starting work on average 3 children died per year. After she left only 1 baby died in 7 years. What changed in the unit? I think there will be more details of failures to come.

my friends daughter was born there (post this) and was transferred to Alderhey for treatment (sadly starved at oxygen at birth) - I wonder if they’ve changed the criteria of the babies that are treated there as 1 death per year is low surely for a unit that must have many premature babies every year

One thing that fascinates me most about cases like this is that still, in this day and age, where it is rammed down our throats repeatedly that these "monsters" look and act like perfectly normal, day to day human beings.... we still have reams of people on threads like this crying "but she looked so normal".

Every time something like this happens, or someone is murdered, or a paedophile is exposed, or a victim of domestic violence comes forward you have the testimony directly from the neighbours, people living next door to the perpetrators stating "He/She seemed so normal", "He would say hi to me every day", "he helped me put my bins out", "went and got the paper", "he adored his wife/kids/mother", "Went to church", "gave to charity" etc etc etc...

It's so rare that anyone who does these acts advertises it in some way by looking weird or acting weird or advertising it. And it's weird to me that people still think that they will have an ugly face and a big neon sign over their heads screaming "baby murderer".

Come on. Wake the fuck up.

I don't know how many times I need to say this before you get it: I agree with the verdict. I am not arguing against it.

That doesn't mean it's acceptable for me, you, or other posters to make personal attacks on those who have misgivings about the verdict.

This. I think it takes us women such a long tine (me included).

Shocking interview with one of the doctors that reported on LL - disbelieved by management, and forced to write LL a written apology for accusing her. The managers need to be investigated and prosecuted.

'Babies could've been saved': Doctor who helped catch Lucy Letby blames hospital | ITV News

The doctor who helped catch child-killer Lucy Letby has told ITV News that babies' lives could have been saved if hospital bosses had contacted police sooner...

I didn't think you'd have a choice in whether you had to appear for verdict.
Cowardly twat.

Tapasita · 18/08/2023 20:28

Terrible, just terrible. What dark and evil spirit possessed her? God only knows. May the babies RIP, so so sad

Thank you, I will look into more tonight. My child was a 28wk prem and I went in to work in SCBU (same level) there just wasn’t that many incidents and when there was it was a it was a big deal, I don’t doubt something going on in the ward, just too many incidents, but like lots (I’m guessing) just torn because they can’t imagine why someone would do it, that and the evidence wasn’t there. I guess more will come to light now, things that didn’t make it to court

I agree, there was nothing actually conclusive, it was all circumstantial. I think the most likely explanation is that she did it but I find it hard to believe anyone could do that and I suppose there could be other explanations. I’m horrified that this could happen though- the management have a lot to answer.

It shouldn't be optional. Madness that it is.

Me too! I used to read my mothers Chat and True Crime magazines growing up and in there the pictures were always mug shots or carefully selected, sinister photographs of the perpetrator that it became ingrained in my head that you would spot these "monsters" from a mile away. That they would be weird and ugly and creepy and grotesque, and OBVIOUSLY the kind of person.

But you can't. It could literally be anyone. The handsome, cocksure man I fell in love with (who beat me within an inch of my life). The trustworthy GP who had a particular fondness for elderly care. The family member who is such an awesome uncle/aunt/grandparent. Or the sweet, blonde, middle class nurse who just wanted the best outcomes for preemie babies, had a perfectly normal social life and who had two loving and supportive parents.

They hide in plain fucking sight. Stop being so shocked that they aren't a pervy groteque hunchback, but are in fact "completely normal people".

Mcgonigles · 18/08/2023 20:36

The notes that were found around her house, one of them was 'to' the unnamed doctor she was suspected of having an affair with and said "I trusted you with everything"

Trusted him with what exactly?

It's pretty obvious from the messages they exchanged and the fact they were sneaking off for dates, meeting at her house and taking trips to London, they were having an affair. Sending love hearts to each other, joking about calling in sick and going to her house.

Yet she stood in the dock and denied there was anything going on whatsoever.

I wonder what he knew, thought he knew, or what additional information he held that would strengthen the prosecutions case against her.

A bunch of colleagues were suspicious of her and felt the evidence stacked up against her, so why didn't he take any notice?

He's a consultant. An intelligent person. How could he not suspect her when everybody else did?

Completely hypothetical but I wonder whether she'd told him something, perhaps not everything but enough for her to be ruminating on the fact she "Trusted him with everything"

I wonder if her total denying of an affair was in return for him withholding certain things when he gave evidence against her.

Wouldn't many a woman scorned take the opportunity to throw their affair partner under the bus if they dared to give evidence against them in court?!

froggyfringe · 18/08/2023 20:36

Hospital managers need to start LISTENING to the staff on the front line, on the ground. I despise them just as much.

DO your job senior managers.

Holidayoverdue · 18/08/2023 20:39

God I just want to cry for those babies and their families. What could have and should’ve been for their futures.

Beyond comprehension what she’s done.

froggyfringe · 18/08/2023 20:40

I say this as someone that was physically assaulted by a member of nhs staff that was protected by senior managers and I was accused of bullying. I know of two members of staff that have jobs without full reference checking/deceit. The senior managers have become useless and cause safety issues.

PetitPorpoise · 18/08/2023 20:40

@BitchBrigade I agree with you, but in fairness I think it's always a stark and shocking reminder that evil is all around us.

Most people have not suffered extreme trauma, and so do not have barriers up when it comes to trust and taking people on face value. And that is almost always fine because most people are not evil and we can trust them.

Cases like this remind us that every single 'nice person' that we know could be a wolf in sheep's clothing, and that is very scary. Never being able to take anyone at face value would not be a nice way to live imo.

jenbj · 18/08/2023 20:42

I'm crying watching Panorama. Those poor children and their families. And how terrible for the consultants who tried to stop it but were not believed. What an evil woman.

Problem with the death penalty though is that is requires a person to carry the killing through. Lots of cases of PTSD in America in state executioners. Its a lot to ask for someone for what is essentially revenge.

I dont think of it that way as it is not revenge to remove a dangerous, evil, inhumane monster from the world (the same way the army have to kill for the greater good). But I understand what you are saying that there will be an unfortunate person that has to do the job, but how can someone who kills innocent, vulnerable babies be allowed the luxury of a life?

It wont happen in her lifetime in the UK as no government will be prepared to reintroduce the death penalty (in case there ever was a mistake), so I can only hope she is kept in complete isolation with no opportunity to end her own life. I hope it haunts her till the very end.

Unfortunately they can, lots are too cowardly to attend.

It isn't just about being 'cowardly', it is multi-layered, we don't have incidents like other countries of being dragged out on essentially wheelbarrows and cuffed to face the verdict which put the staff at risk who have to do this, it is also to protect others so such scenes such as in the US where the culprit can either laugh/say something truly abhorrent to victims families after receiving the verdict.

It isn't as though LL had the life of luxery in court compared to her in prison, the holding cells she would have had more room, probably better amenities/food where she is currently being kept rather than in a court holding cell.

You wanting to see your justification, whilst isn't unwarranted is multi-layered on all sides and is something that after a far few decades in the UK has become the standard for a reason.

Imagine the calls on here from those who still have questions if they saw her forcibly made to attend the verdict

Pipsquiggle · 18/08/2023 20:45

I hope those hospital managers also get their comeuppance as well

GameOverBoys · 18/08/2023 20:46

Does anyone know if any additional babies died while lucy Letby worked there (June 2015 to June 2016) did she kill all of them or was there other ‘natural’ deaths? I can’t find any stats.

Its on the BBC website that the hospital changed has changed since Letby was there. They no longer care for children who are as sick as the time, she worked there, at the site. They are instead transfered elsewhere.

Which should go some way to providing an explanation to this query.

This BBC programme is utterly harrowing
