Lucy Letby guilty

Lucy Letby has been convicted of the murder of seven babies and the attempted murder of six more.

My thoughts are with the families of the victims.

There are a few strange things coming out about her parents.

Her mother crying out 'take me instead' when she was arrested.

Her father attending a mediation meeting about her at the hospital (a previous poster mentioned this).

Neither of these seem normal for parents of an adult.

Just made me think about the whole family dynamic. Maybe she was brought up in the belief that she could never be wrong?

You are allowed to take someone with you to disciplinary hearings and the like. I guess it's more usual to take a colleague or union rep or a lawyer, but taking a parent or husband or wife is not that unusual.

LadyMadderLake · 18/08/2023 17:35

It was noticed but executives were trying to avoid involving the police it has been alleged.

That's just insane though. If the worry was that a nurse was harming and killing babies - how the hell did they think that was going to pan out if they didn't do anything about it? And what's so terrible about calling the police if an employee is suspected of criminal behaviour? It's normal surely - if an employee attacked a colleague or stole something expensive, they'd call the police wouldn't they? I really don't get it.

BeggyMitchell · 18/08/2023 17:35

I will never understand the 'but she looks so normal' narrative- a murderer looks just like any one of us, any person on the planet.

Horrifying. I thought the NHS had learned from the Beverley Allit case, but obviously not.

She’s just a much more educated, more presentable version isn’t she.

ilovebrie8 · 18/08/2023 17:39

it is sickening and could’ve been stopped sooner…they cover things up in the nhs. Not all are do gooders 😕

I know what you're saying, but her looking how she does definitely adds an additional element of shock.

She looks like the girl next door; young, pretty, smiley, and of course she's a nurse. It just adds a level of juxtaposition that's quite chilling.

CandyflossKaren · 18/08/2023 17:40

I think it’s clear she has some kind of MH problem or SEN.

why @Wenfy ???

Why do you think that?

Duckingella · 18/08/2023 17:41

No amount of prison time will make up for what she did but I hope getting justice for their children will bring some closure to her victims families.

Papernotplastic · 18/08/2023 17:41

Unless your field is abnormal psychology I don’t think it’s worth spending time trying to figure out why she did this. There will never be an answer that makes sense to anyone but her.

She made a choice no other reason.

ilovebrie8 · 18/08/2023 17:43

Did she actually have an affair with the married consultant or was it an infatuation? I think he gave evidence against her at the trial.

Papernotplastic · 18/08/2023 17:44

Well, yes, she made a choice, but it’s so far outside the realm of normal human behaviour that questions will be asked.

Why does that matter?

Well, yes, she made a choice, but it’s so far outside the realm of normal human behaviour that questions will be asked.

But there is no mental health reason to make bad choices other than that they want to and feel able to. Same for any crime really.

It is unbelievable and seems the management are also to blame as well :(
Those families were so badly let down all round

We live in the catchment area for the hospital and my husband, who has severe health conditions, has experienced serious failings in his care, which I can’t detail here because we’re currently seeking legal advice. My own elderly mother was admitted after an internal bleed and the standard of care on the geriatric ward was atrocious. She was discharged in someone elses’ dirty clothes before I could get there with her own, and when I got her home I discovered a previously undiagnosed breast tumour which had undergone a growth spurt during her stay, and which was clearly visible - had they been washing her and changing her nightgown, they couldn’t fail to have missed it. This this was despite a history of breast cancer treated at the hospital and admission for cancer investigation.

When we were referred back to the oncologist, on checking, the tumour was visible on scans they had done as an inpatient and had been missed. When we complained no-one would take responsibility.

I have two neighbours whose spouses were admitted for surgery during the pandemic. Both had LFT’s for Covid which were positive. They were not isolated, but placed on a Covid ward and a PCR test was done. The results of the PCR tests, which were sent to their mobile phones, were both negative. They were both readmitted with Covid as a result and both died.

Before these experiences, I would have agreed with this verdict, but my experiences at the hospital and those of my family and friends make me very uneasy about this verdict.

Maggiethecat · 18/08/2023 17:47

One of the consultants has said he thinks a number of those babies would have been at school now had it not been for her.

utterly heartbreaking

Probably. She was their only child. The mother is weird.

No that profession should be banned! Crock of shite!

It is unheard of!! You are only ever allowed a union rep or a colleague. I'm in the public sector and it would not be permitted.

Papernotplastic · 18/08/2023 17:47

You do you.

Watching Sky news now and it is unbelievable that 7 consultants who expressed concerns about her were threatened with being reported to the medical council!!! What chance whistleblowers will report concerns in any job if they are treated like this .Awful !

How could NHS management ignore 7 consultants! Jail them.

WeeWillyWinkie9 · 18/08/2023 17:49

Papernotplastic · 18/08/2023 17:47

I will do! I listen when people say they made it up! Hopefully others will soon!

Blankscreen · 18/08/2023 14:02

So sad. Just read the history of how the consultants tried to flag the issue several times and were forced to apologise to her.

The hospital were more worried about their reputation and in the meantime she murdered more babies

THiS!

The management has huge questions to answer. I see one chap resigned but everyone should be investigated for a cover up. The BBC report is shocking.

The scary part is she looks so bloody normal, just a couple of years younger than me, someone I could go out for drinks with. She looks happy in her photos... just how does this happen? How can people be this twisted? What was she getting out of it?

Of course she looks normal, she probably regard herself a regular woman
Her ordinariness is probably how she was able to operate in plain sight
Her ordinary unremarkable demeanour mean she didn’t attract attention
Its notable there were no other red flags eg staff misgivings, worries about personality, reported disputes prior to the consultants raising the alarm regard her clinical work
