BarelyLiterate · 18/08/2023 13:12

Lucy Letby has been convicted of the murder of seven babies and the attempted murder of six more.

My thoughts are with the families of the victims.

I haven’t followed this story much but I would like to read watch it, does anyone know where I might be able to please??

MansfieldLark · 18/08/2023 16:23

I think she will end up in Rampton

VictoriaVenkman · 18/08/2023 16:24

PickledMuffin · 18/08/2023 16:12

Is there a date when she will be sentenced yet?

She'll be sentenced on Monday. The BBC said she will not appear in the dock.

PickledMuffin · 18/08/2023 16:24

thank you @VictoriaVenkman

I’ve followed the case, listened to the podcast. I’m a midwife so understand a lot of the medical side of stuff plus ward set up. I do think she’s guilty but I did think she might be found not guilty due to lack of concrete evidence against her specifically.

yes the insulin shows an insulin overdose, likely to be murder rather than an error as they weren’t prescribed insulin so not a drug miscalculation.

yes, from what I’ve read she was the only nurse present at all of the cases in the trial (remember she hasn’t been found guilty for all the attempted murders). But I did read there were other babies who died who haven’t been included in the case. Some of which she may not have been present at. Yes, I get some of those were not thought to be murder……but it does raise the possible question of did they select cases to suit the narrative? 🤷‍♀️. I don’t know.

I was thinking what if the insulin was in the enteral feeding bag or the saline flushes?

I am not saying she is innocent but those items could potentially both be tampered with.

TakeNoNoticeoftheNoise · 18/08/2023 16:27

To all those saying you feel it's an unsafe judgement, were you in court everyday of the trial to hear the evidence? The jury were and they found her guilty.

And what about the other deaths that she’s been associated with?

I think the reason that people are saying that she looks normal is that she has a social media presence and therefore a lot of photos.

If I say Myra Hinley or Rose West then you think of one of a few photos. Certainly with Myra Hindley you will most likely think of that one infamous one. Until recently, most people only had a few pictures of themselves or their family and the ones that the press managed to get hold of were the ones printed again and again.

With Lucy Letby there have been hundreds of photo available for the press to pick from. She has loads of happy pictures and looks like us or our daughters. We see ourselves or our friends and family in her in a way we don’t in those one or two pictures of past killers.

I think you are spot on. And this is what partly allowed for her to get away with it for so long

She isn't unwell though?

They will have gone through mental capacity before the trial

Mojodojocasahaus · 18/08/2023 16:29

I didn’t realise she’d worked in other hospitals too - presumably there will be other investigations?

Months and months of evidence.
The judge ruled that these traumatised jurors will
never have to do jury service again.

Not even just blind eye turning, but actual intimidation of the reporting consultant according to ITV:

"In the minutes of one meeting seen by ITV News, the doctors are told to 'draw a line under the 'Lucy issue' and to apologise to her for alleged 'victimisation'.
Dr Jayaram claims that the then-Chief Executive Tony Chambers told consultants at the meeting in January 2017: 'I'm drawing a line under this, you will draw a line under this, and if you cross that line, there will be consequences for you'"

Willmafrockfit · 18/08/2023 16:31

must of been awful to have suspicions about her

They need to change the law so that criminals are forced to be in the dock for verdicts and sentencing.

How?

Suppose, for example, in a similar case the criminal is a big, strong, psychotic man. He would have to be physically forced into the dock, putting warders into considerable danger. Once there, he couldn't be forced to sit still or to sit quiet. Suppose he sits shouting, screaming, howling and shouting profane abuse about his victims whilst trying to. escape from people holding him down. How is that going to make victims and their families feel?

CalMeKate · 18/08/2023 16:31

Maggiethecat · 18/08/2023 16:28

And what about the other deaths that she’s been associated with?

I am sure she did do it. All of it.

I wonder if more babies because she could have tampered with other devices that had an effect at a later date.

ilovebrie8 · 18/08/2023 16:22

She must never be released evil. I wonder what her parents think did they ever see anything ….she’s a serial killer …hopefully prisoners sort her out child killers don’t fare well

I think her parents think she's innocent. The BBC have reported that her mum shouted out no at the guilty verdicts.

That reminds me of something I read about the Shipman case. Apparently, the local undertakers saw so many ‘clients’ coming their way after his ministrations that they used to joke about him ‘bumping them off’.

If I remember rightly, Shipman was such a prolific murderer that he was actually killing a patient at the very moment his colleagues were holding a meeting about whether they should report him to the police.

MavisMcMinty · 18/08/2023 16:33

Nobody ever looks good in a police mugshot, it’s like they actively recruit photographers who can make a supermodel look like a crazed psychopath. I see the mugshots on the news after any conviction and think “well of course s/he’s a murderer/rapist/whatever; just LOOK at their FACE!”

JudgeJ · 18/08/2023 16:33

ForTheLoveOfSleep · 18/08/2023 13:25

She didn't appear for the verdict. What a cowardly, psychotic, cunt. I hope they force her to appear for sentencing.

No-one on trial should be allowed to decide if and when they appear in the dock, if they won't move voluntarily then they should be moved forcibly.

TakeNoNoticeoftheNoise · 18/08/2023 16:33

Maggiethecat · 18/08/2023 16:30

Exactly my point. There is way more that has been said in court and they found her guilty. She is therefore guilty.

Truly despicable. They people also need to be in jail

Lilithlogic · 18/08/2023 16:34

So scary, my heart goes out to all those affected. My youngest was in Countess of Chester intensive care a few years earlier than Letby

CandyflossKaren · 18/08/2023 16:35

And who is going to FORCIBLY move these people into the dock?

Staff have enough violence to contend with without creating more

MelonsOnSaleAgain · 18/08/2023 16:35

i worked for a while in a prison law specialist solicitors. This idea that someone who does these things is automatically unwell just isn’t true in my experience.

many of them are. But some, some just do it because they can. They are just wired differently. They're different sure, but perfectly in control of their actions. It’s horrible to think of it and pretty much unimaginable for most people, thank god.

MansfieldLark · 18/08/2023 16:36

@CandyflossKaren Beverly Allitt was only transferred one week after being convicted. She was only in prison for one week until she was transferred to Rampton. I should think there will be a lot of mental capacity assessments done in the coming days.
