A week's all expenses paid holiday in either Las Vegas or the Yorkshire coast. Which would you go for ?

I'll take the Yorkshire coast, any time of year. A small holiday apartment, pub or hotel room in Whitby, Sandsend or Robin Hood's Bay would be awfully grand. I admit I've not been to Las Vegas but, nonetheless, it just doesn't appeal.

I make it 59 Vegas to 40 Yorkshire but I didn't do a proper tally so it may be off by a couple.

I'm another in the "Would I pay to go to Vegas? No. Would I go if someone else paid? Yes!" column.

That sphere thing looks insane, I'd also like to see cirque du soleil, do some day trips and just wander round gawping at the absurdity of it all.

I'd have to be paid to go to Vegas but if I did take that option I'd use it to see lots more of the US. Mind you don't knock it until you've tried it is my motto so maybe as others have said I'd be surprised by Vegas and my prejudices revealed as untrue

Neither TBH.

Can't I go to Majorca or Italy instead ?

We had an amazing few days in Vegas. No gambling but it was bloody brilliant. Not my thing either.

DPILs went to Las Vegas ( this was a while ago ) there were very cheap deals to be had with hotels which had a casino. So it may not be as expensive as one may think - I still would not go back on anyone's dollar but if some want to try it I think there are really good deals to be had if sought out .

Yorkshire coast as never been there and I dont like flying. I have been to Las Vegas and while it was ok I dont want to go back.

Deadringer · 19/08/2023 01:00

Wouldn't fancy either. But if you twisted my arm I would go to Vegas.

Yorkshire. Beer's better.

Las Vegas. "Look, I know you love it and go every year but I don't want to go there, it is everything that I hate" ..later... "OK, OK I will go along with it if I must, but you need to know that it is not my thing, I am an outdoorsy person, I won't be doing any gambling or any late night shit, it will be OK as we are going to San Fran after which will be far better ". Went. Loved it. Hated San Fran. Wished I was back in Vegas. Never wished I was back in Yorkshire mind, for all of its charms.

Vegas.

You don't have to do the whole drinking and gambling side of it - we went for a wedding and had 8y dd with us so skipped all that side, we did when we went for a couple of days in a subsequent holiday that way out and dd was a teen.

It's hotter than than Whitby, and drier. That's the biggest aspect for me and holidays!

Nice hotel with a big room, nice restaurants, a show or two, a wander about, big pools to relax by, plenty to see.

I would choose the Yorkshire coast. I've been to Las Vegas and it wasn't my cup of tea. Very chaotic, smell of weed everywhere, noisy etc. Its like Blackpool x 5000 😂

Like most places these days then.
You can smell weed being smoked everywhere it seems sometimes - and definitely in North Yorkshire seaside towns ime.

Currently staying at Walt Disney World it's the first place we've visited in a while where it's not smelt round every other corner. Off elsewhere from tomorrow - I'm sure it will be in the air again soon enough ConfusedHmm

Maybe the Long Island or New England coastal towns such as the Hamptons and Cape Cod would appeal to those who aren't keen on the Yorkshire coast but don't want to repeat Las Vegas. I gather one needs deep pockets for these places, mind!

Cape Cod was lovely when we went.
It's in the east coast so the flights aren't as dear as going to Vegas ime, and accommodation wasn't too bad either.
