A week's all expenses paid holiday in either Las Vegas or the Yorkshire coast. Which would you go for ?

I'll take the Yorkshire coast, any time of year. A small holiday apartment, pub or hotel room in Whitby, Sandsend or Robin Hood's Bay would be awfully grand. I admit I've not been to Las Vegas but, nonetheless, it just doesn't appeal.

If it was all expenses I would go to Vegas. I don’t like gambling but have been before and remember the yummy buffets and liked wondering round looking at all the fountains and statues. I’m sure my kids would love it as well! I would want everything paid for though, so stay in a top hotel suite, free food and drinks etc 😂

But Vegas has all the spectacular hotels, and is near to the Hoover Dam and the Valley of Fire National Park, which looks like it's worth a visit and the Grand Canyon is a reasonable day trip away.

You'd be able to have quite a special, memorable holiday without much in the way of gambling or tacky entertainment.

We went to grand canyon it was breathtaking it was the most spectacular place I've ever experienced and the air is so clear I don't think whitby Is comparable 😃

Yorkshire.

I've been to Las Vegas, enjoyed it, but it's not somewhere I'd go back to.

I'd much prefer a holiday on the Yorkshire coast.

If someone else was paying...Vegas!

BasiliskStare · 17/08/2023 12:49

I have been to Vegas on a work trip ( but with some free time. ) Helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon with a drop off for a pic Nic lunch - lovely - Hoover dam - really impressive. Apart from that I found the whole place vaguely depressing so would not go back even if some one else was paying. But there again I have seen it, so that said I would choose Yorkshire , I am sure - given more expensive , Vegas would be the better option if you think you would not otherwise see it & want to give it a go.

I'd say we're roughly half and half here.

Las Vegas

Janieforever · 17/08/2023 12:57

As well as things like Grand Canyon, red rock canyon, hoover dam , helicopter rides etc, there are a few residents I’d like to see, Adele, u2, Carrie underwood, lady Gaga to name some coming up. Front row seats please. Not keen on the gambling, but the rest, yes please, if someone wants to treat me. 😄

Silkiebunny · 17/08/2023 13:28

Definitely Vegas for me but would use it as a base for trips to Grand Canyon, Hollywood etc and just a quick look round it. Though would try to avoid strong heat in summer.

Vegas - I’ve been before and I didn’t gamble at all! There is more to vegas than escorts and casinos.

This ^

Vegas

I’ve been a few times becuase I have family in California. I don’t particularly like the place but guaranteed good weather and food

LlynTegid · 17/08/2023 13:38

Yorkshire, as there are parts I have never been to.

CommonVetch · 17/08/2023 13:39

Vegas is what I imagine hell to be like. Yorkshire every time.

Babdoc · 17/08/2023 13:43

There is no sum of money large enough that you could pay me as an inducement to visit Vegas! I am fond of Yorkshire, having relatives there. My late PILs used to live in the middle of the North York Moors national park, and the DDs and I often stayed.

Ohmylovejune · 17/08/2023 13:46

I'd never pay for Las Vegas, so if there is enough yo do there for a week, that's what I'd choose - for the experience.

I suspect I'd enjoy Yorkshire more but that would be somewhere I'd book and pay for myself so I'd not choose it in this case - unless on researching I couldn't find enough to do in the US

Changingplace · 17/08/2023 13:48

Having just been to Vegas, Yorkshire! I found Vegas very soulless and I was done with it after a few days, it’s all very similar, and just expensive restaurants in shopping centres, same same!

You know Vegas is nearly 300 miles from Hollywood? 😆

RabbitsRock · 17/08/2023 13:51

Yorkshire. I have an addictive personality so I’d be terrible in Vegas!

Clefable · 17/08/2023 13:52

With my husband on our own? Vegas. With two preschool kids? Yorkshire coast!

Silkiebunny · 17/08/2023 13:56

Yes you can get day trips and I would absolutely go. Got cancer in 2021 so I want to do as much as possible not things can do everyday. I would have the next day off but would go. Though its all hypothetical anyway as we are going to Mauritius instead but we looked up Vegas and planned it. Mainly the heat put us off, but it was good value for flights and hotels.

SirChenjins · 17/08/2023 13:58

Yorkshire 100% - no question. Nothing about Las Vegas appeals to me.

Tryingtokeepgoing · 17/08/2023 13:58

I've been to Vegas many times, always work (conferences) and you couldn't pay me enough to go there voluntarily. Tacky, tawdry, terrible. I'd rather walk to East Yorkshire from London!!

romdowa · 17/08/2023 13:59

All expenses paid then it would have to be Vegas. It would be a once in a lifetime trip for me
