A week's all expenses paid holiday in either Las Vegas or the Yorkshire coast. Which would you go for ?

I'll take the Yorkshire coast, any time of year. A small holiday apartment, pub or hotel room in Whitby, Sandsend or Robin Hood's Bay would be awfully grand. I admit I've not been to Las Vegas but, nonetheless, it just doesn't appeal.

Maybe the Long Island or New England coastal towns such as the Hamptons and Cape Cod would appeal to those who aren't keen on the Yorkshire coast but don't want to repeat Las Vegas. I gather one needs deep pockets for these places, mind!

That sounds much more like my cup of tea - and you did say all expenses paid!

Yorkshire every time for me.

Fifthtimelucky · 17/08/2023 18:24

Las Vegas, but only because the flight would be paid for and I could then go off elsewhere.

I spent a night there once. Arrived at the airport late, stayed one night in a hotel and left early the next morning for the Grand Canyon and various other places in Arizona. At the end of the holiday, drove straight to the airport. Obviously didn't see much of Las Vegas, but had no interest in seeing more.

I would happily spend a week in North Yorkshire though. Spent a few days there many years ago and would happily go back.

I’ve been to Yorkshire and it’s lovely. I’ve never been to Vegas. I can’t afford to go even a modest holiday so I’m off to pack my bag for Vegas if somebody is footing the bill 😃

The attraction of the Yorkshire coast for me is its size; Saltburn down to Hornsea. Plenty to explore and the time to do it, plus the Yorkshire Wolds, North York Moors and Cleveland Hills.

Las Vegas offers the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam... they are pretty cool for exploring too!

Why do you ask, OP?

Is this a current dilemma for you or are you trialling the Yorkshire Tourist Board's latest slogan? ("Yorkshire. It's not Vegas.")

Just idle interest really. Nothing more. I live in Yorkshire so it's a coastline I'm reasonably familiar with.

Vegas, because I'll probably never go there with my own money. I'd split my time between the city and the desert. Drive out a bit and there's amazing dark night skies.

But Yorkshire would be a nice holiday too.

DahliaMacNamara · 17/08/2023 21:25

No way in a million years would I pay to go to Vegas. But on somebody else's dollar, I'd give it a shot, sure.

DisforDarkChocolate · 17/08/2023 21:28

I can't cope with the heat so possibly UK.

TheChosenTwo · 17/08/2023 21:28

Definitely Vegas if someone else is paying. Not somewhere I’d pay to go myself but I could easily drive to the Yorkshire coast (okay, maybe a long 6 or something hour drive and I still haven’t done that so it’s not pulled me in, so I’d take the free vegas trip.

evtheria · 17/08/2023 21:30

Las Vegas although I've zero interest in casinos. We'd go for Cirque du Soleil, full fancy spa shebang, maybe a music gig of some sort, swimming in warm weather, food, and hopefully some kind of desert /Grand Canyon expedition!

🤣

CoinsinaJar · 17/08/2023 21:34

Vegas is overrated and very tacky (IMO). Can't say that for Yorkshire ...... I'd gather every time.

HonoriaLucastaDelagardie · 17/08/2023 21:42

Yorkshire coast. I've been before, but there's a lot I haven't seen. If it's expenses paid, I'd go for more up-market accommodation, maybe hire a car with driver to take me places.

The climate would suit me better, and there'd be no time wasted in airports or on flights.

CeriB82 · 17/08/2023 21:57

Yorkshire. Hands down.

OnedayIwillfeelfree · 17/08/2023 22:07

I would go to Las Vegas. I would not be able to criticise a destination if I had not been there. Just think what life would be like if we were led by others opinions ahead of trying things and forming our own.

mrsbyers · 17/08/2023 22:09

Vegas for sure - off there again in two weeks and it’s the perfect girls week away with my bestie. Yorkshire type trips are for me , husband and the hound once a year this year heading north to Argyll area though

We went In Winter its not hot more like a spring day, and it's cold at night

Ninacampbelltiled · 17/08/2023 22:17

Loathe Vegas but the National Parks around that area are fantastic so I'd use it as a base

MrsApplepants · 17/08/2023 22:18

Vegas. No real desire to go to Yorkshire. Sorry.

MrFoxLovesComingToOurPlace · 17/08/2023 22:18

The Yorkshire coast. I wouldn't like Las Vegas - big, loud, flashy and fake.

Cazzovuoi · 17/08/2023 22:18

You couldn’t pay me to go to Vegas. In fact you couldn’t pay me to visit the USA at all.

Gilead Lite.

Runnerinthenight · 17/08/2023 22:21

Vegas no question if someone else is paying!!

No particular desire to go, but I could easily afford to go to Yorkshire by myself and Vegas would be a lot more expensive!
