What's the most BORING subject people can bring up?

Inspired by another thread. Of all the subjects someone can bring up in conversation what's the one that makes you want to roll your eyes so far back you can see behind your brain?

Light-hearted of course Grin

JohnnyYenSetHimselfOnFireAgain · 16/08/2023 13:19

Their kids.
Brainless reality TV such as Love Island.
Cricket.

GoingToBeLessRubbishAtLife · 16/08/2023 13:19

Calories
Diets
’Naughty’ food
’Do you know how many calories are in that?’
Syns (don’t actually know what they are)
Etc.

JaneyGee · 16/08/2023 13:20

Themselves. The most boring people are completely focussed on themselves. But the absolute worst are the people who show off – who see every conversation as an opportuity to boost their ego and self-esteem.

Politics. I can't bear smug left-wing robots (or lib-bots, as I call them) who mindlessly regurgitate the standard liberal-left view on everything. No, it doesn't make you a cool, edgy outsider. To be counter-cultural nowadays you'd have to be a patriotic conservative!

Cars
Mortgage rates
Work
Football (and sport generally)

Also children. Nothing on earth is so boring as listening to the 'hilarious' thing their five-year-old said.

Interesting things (to me anyway): your favourite paintings, your recent trip to an art gallery, places you've lived/visited abroad, your favourite books, literature in general, history, philosophy, science, etc.

SlippinJanie · 16/08/2023 13:23

How they got here, wherever you're talking right now. "Set off at 8.25, had to stop for petrol, was going to take the A5 but then there were roadworks at Towcester so blah blah blah "

Lalaloulous · 16/08/2023 13:23

Golf!!

Alstro · 16/08/2023 13:25

Science as I am too thick to understand.

vibecheck · 16/08/2023 13:25

Another vote for politics. No one wants to hear anyone else’s opinion - they just want to drone on about their own in an endless smug monologue. I genuinely leave conversations now if people start talking politics - I first try and divert and if that doesn’t work I just go. Life’s too short.

TattyOne · 16/08/2023 13:28

Money/finance/mortgage/bank etc.

I could fall into a deathly coma just thinking about such brain numbing things!

Mara246 · 16/08/2023 13:28

For all those criticising other people for their boring conversation topics, what is it that you do like to talk and hear about? What do you consider to be interesting subjects?

Mochudubh · 16/08/2023 13:29

Yes to the PP who said family history. It can be interesting to see how far back you can go but I have zero interest in tracing various branches to infinity. I don't care that my maternal Grandad's 4th cousin twice removed emigrated to Canada in 1875 and I sure as hell don't want contact with their Great-grandchild in Manitoba.

stbrandonsboat · 16/08/2023 13:30

Sport
Anything on TV, as I don't have a TV
Sleb drivel
Technical stuff, like how an oven works etc.
Ironing
What people have bought at the shops
Fashion and handbags etc.
Cruises
Cooking and recipes
Holidays
Wallpaper (I don't mind paint discussion)

tescocreditcard · 16/08/2023 13:31

House prices
Health problems - ( I'm especially looking at you old people Grin)

AffIt · 16/08/2023 13:33

@ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees

Conversation where it's basically a narration of their day! I git up at the 8 this morning, dropped the kids to creche, grabbed a coffee, coffee shop was so busy, drove to work, traffic was heavy....dear god it's 6pm and you are only at 9am, I can't listen to everything you did until 6.

Jesus, yes, this: I find myself thinking 'can you just give me the bullet points, please?'. 😄

the80sweregreat · 16/08/2023 13:35

I hate people who tell a story without getting to the point
I don't care what time / day it happened
Or what clothes you were wearing
Just give me the main points

Beverlysparty · 16/08/2023 13:39

The new extension they're having built onto their house.
The minutiae of their office politics, featuring loads of people you've never met.
Their various aches and pains.

I don't mind people talking about their children, but hate when they bring every single topic back around to them. That is really boring.

Cherrysoup · 16/08/2023 13:40

Their endless medical appointments.

Phos · 16/08/2023 13:40

Running. Their PB, training routes, favourite park run. Seriously no one cares.

Oh yes, this as well. "So anyway last Wednesday, or sorry it might have been Thursday, no I tell a lie it was definitely Wednesday, I was supposed to be going to Emma's party but her mum was sick, well she wasn't actually sick she'd had a tooth out and it was really hurting so Emma left work early, well she only works mornings really but she was filling in for someone who was on holiday...."

Just get to the bloody point.

Justanotherthought · 16/08/2023 13:48

Their shift pattern

Ihateboris · 16/08/2023 13:51

Sport

SecondClassmyass · 16/08/2023 13:53

Their grandchildren,
Their business trips to Singapore and Hong Kong in the 80’s
extensively talking about their sons/daughters in law new jobs
crypto
medical appointments & results (that never seem to find what’s wrong)
their holidays followed by slideshow of photos of said holidays

and… squirrels. My fiend sends me long voice messages about squirrels that live in her garden. ‘Ooh the small one just jumped on the roof. The bigger one had a fight with the middle one this morning, ohh aren’t they adorable. Jeez the little one is burying a nut under the tree’ 🥱 🛌

bellsandwhistles333 · 16/08/2023 13:53

Money!

hairyunicorn · 16/08/2023 13:54

Dreams. I don't need a 15min convo on something that never happened

CattingAbout · 16/08/2023 13:55

Heat pumps
Solar panels
Smart meters

When people ask you I've you've seen a particular TV program, then when you say "no", go on to spend the next 10 minutes talking about it anyway. Why ask if you're going to do that?
