Inspired by another thread. Of all the subjects someone can bring up in conversation what's the one that makes you want to roll your eyes so far back you can see behind your brain?

Light-hearted of course Grin

Politics 100%. It's just always ugly to hear someone preaching on about their political opinions.

WhatNowBarry · 16/08/2023 12:18

People at work continually talking about the volume of alcohol they consumed at the weekend / on holiday.

Gosh you’ve all been talking to my MIL. Her favourite subjects are dreams, horoscopes and conspiracy theories. I find it so hard to hold a conversation with her because I genuinely have absolutely nothing to say!

SquashPenguin · 16/08/2023 12:19

Children
Football
Dreams
Cats

Eddyraisins · 16/08/2023 12:19

Puff Daddy? P Diddy?

BatshitCrazyWoman · 16/08/2023 12:19

Sport.
Diets - we have a Herbalife Helen (her name's not Helen, but she is using Herbalife) at work. Every time I talk to her, it's like a Herbalife infomercial. Boring!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 16/08/2023 12:20

Oh and holidays - I always think that ad "Travel yourself interesting" is misleading.

I love to hear where someone went, would they recommend it, see a few photos etc. But a detailed recounting of every detail makes me want to scream. I have a friend who does this and I let her do it because I know telling people about it is a key part of the holiday experience for her, but I am glad when it's over.

steelseries · 16/08/2023 12:20
  • Their pets
  • Holidays they've just come back from
  • What they've eaten that day
  • Work politics

Their dreams. Also horoscopes.

God yes, this

Liv999 · 16/08/2023 12:20

What they dreamt about last night

drunkpeacock · 16/08/2023 12:20

Themselves, particularly the minutiae of work place or family politics or their health issues.

TBF I don't really mind discussing any of the topics suggested above as long as there's variety of subjects and people talking.

The most boring "conversations" are those that involve one person talking at length about pretty much anything.

Justcallmebebes · 16/08/2023 12:20

I got stuck in a sauna recently with a random bloke who banged on and on in great detail about how he'd rebuilt a 1940's Ferguson Tractor. That was pretty fucking boring

Negative gossip about others. I find it so draining.

DisforDarkChocolate · 16/08/2023 12:21

My husband's job, honestly my eyes glaze over after 10 seconds. I have no idea how he copes (nice colleagues I think).

dudsville · 16/08/2023 12:21

I can't stand talk about the weather, or being asked what I did at the weekend, do I have any plans for the day, what my favourite something is, have i been anywhere nice on holiday. I accept these are common every day niceties so I engage and reciprocate the questions but my mind has gone to sleep, I don't remember any of it.

Randomuser9876 · 16/08/2023 12:22

I like hearing about dreams!! Think you can work out a lot about people.

Diets for me - especially when they say they were "bad" at the weekend etc.

Also extensions / building work - I live in a v MC area and whole hours have been lost to this. Though we had one last year so probs just as guilty.

Doormatnomore · 16/08/2023 12:22

Work.

more than 1 person has assumed I’m unhappy at work cause I never talk about it. But everyone’s work is the same even lion tamers and porn stars. There’s some boss who isn’t qualified, someone that’s great, procedures you don’t like and oversight that gets in the way. Show me a picture of your dog pleas.

Busubaba · 16/08/2023 12:24

Someone banging on about how truly dreadful their partner is and citing horrific things the partner has said or done but you know they have absolutely no intention of ever splitting up with them!

WhisperingHi · 16/08/2023 12:24

Baby/child milestones. Just find it quite competitive and dull.

Anything exercise based.

Conversations about salaries.
