So I just ventured onto Tiktok…and now my brain is going to explode

The videos were all about 5G poisoning our children as part of a government plan to take them away
prepping for end times
how to scavenge for food in end times
insisting we all take our children out of schools

and about 76 million other terrifying things.

is this what it’s like now?! I just used to watch cat videos and book reviews

Mine isn't anything like that!

I have animals being silly, people talking gory history (past monarchs etc), silly sketches, incredible SFX makeup and I think that's about it...

Never seen anything you describe on TikTok. The algorithm gives you content based on your internet history.

Which is very weird as I’m on my phone, never search anything like that and only used it for booktok mainly before! Haven’t been on for ages and that’s what it served up - how do I get out of this side of it?! It’s grim.

You get out by not watching any of the content and actively looking for the content you want 🍷🍷

When I tried TikTok is was just showing me videos that prisoners in the UK have made. I didn't even think prisoners were allowed mobile phones?!

Just search for some cooking videos (or whatever floats your boat) and the algorithm will correct itself. I've never seen anything like what you describe. If you see something you don't like, swipe

Mine is full of make up, cooking, clothes and the odd neighbour dispute. Nothing like you say.

Just longpress and say you’re not interested and look up some stuff you do like and the algorithm will sort itself out. I find every once in a while it throws some very different stuff at you to see if you like it. Sometimes that stuff is a bit weird!

You watched one and as it was your first time it then chucked the stuff up that was similar and then you didn’t scroll quickly enough so had as your algorithm Mine is full of historians, recipes, true crime, nature photography and dumpster diving mainly.

Keep clicking not interested when you don’t like something, and interacting (like, comment) on things you do. It’s a pretty good algorithm for fast learning

The algorithm is super weird to begin with but then gradually adapts to what kind of content you like. I have to use it for work, which is how I discovered this!

It takes a while for your algorithm to kick in. I get cat videos , cooking videos and heavy metal videos and true crime content now. Everything I like .

Stupid question but where do you find it interested?
I guess because they auto play it thinks I’m watching them which is why I get more?
It was a bit startling to say the least I can see how people fall down these rabbit holes and believe it all. Quite anxiety inducing even when you know how unlikely it all is.

You need to skip videos you're not interested in, you can block certain creators and you need to search for topics you're interested in

scroll quick past what u don’t like and it won’t come up again.watch it out of shock horror disgust and you get lots more the same

Although for ages I got nothing but anorexia and lesbians,sometimes in the same video ..took ages to move away from it …but it did eventually
