and about 76 million other terrifying things.

is this what it’s like now?! I just used to watch cat videos and book reviews

oh and thrift hauls from Goodwill stores and estate sales.

So jealous of Americans and their amazing charity shops.

When I first got on TikTok it threw out a few Piers Morgan videos and I watched them even though I don’t agree with his views at all and the videos the algorithm was then sending me were homophobic, transphobic, right wing, conspiracy theories, super religious etc. I didn’t realise that for any video I watched all the way through the app would use the algorithm to give me more like it regardless of whether I was actually enjoying what I watched. Outside of those videos I just got people doing various dance challenges which is really not my thing.

I fixed it by swiping off any videos like that as soon as possible, clicking the videos to bring up the settings and clicking to say ‘I’m not interested’ if I did watch any of the videos so it didn’t add it to my algorithm, using the search feature to find videos I did like and then ensuring I used the like feature for any video where I was happy to see more like that. On things like instagram I only like something if I really like it but on TikTok I am very generous with my likes, I also add a lot to favourites if it is in an area I’d happily see more videos of and try to remember to follow people. Now my feed Is 95% things I’m interested, I do still get some stuff that I don’t want but I guess the app probably throws things in just to try and see if you like them from time to time.

Mine is all high end fashion and allotments. A bit of book tok and loads of cooking lovely recipes. I get loads of food and gardening ideas from tik tok.

I love that mine is someone picking courgettes from their allotment and then someone opening their Chanel purchases.

Mine is all cats and parrots and people making delicious looking dinners and desserts.

The algorithm makes it your likes. Mine is dogs, jokes, makeup and feminism.

Well I looked at some gender identity stuff and now my algorithm thinks I like Nigel Farage and Katie Hopkins! I keep swiping them in disgust but they keep popping up.
The algorithm is rubbish.

My TikTok is books, people doing daft shit and lesbians. Oh, and lots and lots of cooking.

Pleased to report that it’s now starting to correct itself.
today it was largely recipes, hair tutorials, book reviews.
to the poster who said interacting with someone changed their feed, I think that’s what happened to me. I messaged a friend and liked one of her posts but she’s big into conspiracies and dooms day stuff, so I guess it thought i was into that.

it’s much cheerier now and I just made some fantastic muffins from a recipe on there
