To the Vinted apologists so quick to tell me I’m at fault, what did I do wrong here?

Honestly I am so shocked. What did I do wrong here?!

I buy an item. (Three items make up the bundle). Full price I’ve since discovered WITH buyer protection I’ve since discovered. Seller sends me only part of the listed bundle. Refuses to send me the rest, even when I said I would accept a similar but not exact alternative. Told me to return the items, didn’t care if they got a bad review because of it. I return and yet I’ve now found out my refund will be the amount minus the return postage.

So seeing that it’s always my fault. What did I do wrong?

Obviously no one can answer as I’ve done nothing wrong and it’s the website that favours sellers over buyers that is the problem.

I’m trying to converse with an AI bot currently to see if there’s anything else I can do but my advice to anyone that bothers reading this is DO NOT buy anything expensive from Vinted as it’s an absolute gamble whether the seller will send you the goods described. The Buyer Protection policy is good for nothing from what I can ascertain so far. I’m just incredibly grateful it’s a pretty low cost item in the scheme of things.

Yeh thats how vinted works unfortunately. O was burnt once when a seller sent me dress 4 sizes larger than the one advertised. I had to pay for return postage. I've had so many good buys though, far more positive experiences than negative and some really great bargains. Also sold lots too.

Viviennemary · 15/08/2023 15:13

I can't see why anyone uses vinted. It sounds awful.,At least on ebay honest folk can get a refund from chancers.

mcmooberry · 15/08/2023 15:37

This has just happened to me too, seller sent the wrong non-matching pyjama bottoms and it's me who has to pay to return the item, am VERY annoyed about it.

Unfortunately, eBay also refunds money to chancers from honest sellers - I've lost track of the number of dishonest buyers I've dealt with on eBay (though there are probably an equal number of dishonest sellers as buyers).

WhiskersPete · 15/08/2023 15:47

This is my only gripe with Vinted too. I bought a T-shirt listed as very good condition and it came with a stain on it.

Clearly not my fault as it wasn't as described but I was expected to pay return postage to send it back.

RudsyFarmer · 15/08/2023 15:47

I am generally a buyer so eBay works very well for me. I am new to Vinted so (as you can tell) I was really pissed off. Even more so now I know I paid extra for a protection insurance that is worthless.

I have vented to Vinted 🤭and had some poor soul with no interest in my issue sympathising with me but saying they adhere to their rules and regulations which basically says ‘if it goes wrong boo boo to you’ and I’m now a little less pissed off.

Absolutely no way though that I will buy anything over a tenner on there. It’s a Wild West corner of the internet and is basically a gamble.

Best thing you can do is leave negative feedback so others can avoid them.

I've bought and sold quite a lot from vinted and I've only ever had one bad experience.

I always check someone's feedback before I buy from them, so always leave negative feedback if they con you.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 15/08/2023 16:36

On the other hand, there's a post on reddit from the other side - person sold a bundle and apparently all the most expensive stuff wasn't in the parcel.

Person returns the cheap stuff, gets a refund for the full price minus postage but of course, they had the expensive items they wanted all along. And now have them for the price of postage.

Not saying that's what you've done @RudsyFarmer but it's why they have strict rules.

RudsyFarmer · 15/08/2023 16:37

Strict rules that benefit no one but themselves it seems!!

This. Vinted policy is that buyer always pay return postage

RockAndRollerskate · 15/08/2023 17:04

I’ve had a similar issue but they just refunded and I kept the item and sold it on. You don’t have to return it

Does the returnee get original postage refunded or will I be out the original postage plus return postage?

I didn’t know that?! So you’re saying I could have kept the goods and got a refund? That didn’t seem to be an option when I walked through the process. I’d have accepted that lol

You do have to return it unless the seller agrees otherwise. And then you can't leave feedback either :(

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/08/2023 17:35

I've stopped buying from Vinted after initially loving it because I'm fed up of asking for decent photos, dear God, it's like we're back in 1980 and trying to get a good pic with a point and snap camera !!

Andanotherone01 · 15/08/2023 17:35

Vinted seems to be the new Mumsnet darling. Back in the real world it is a load of old shit. You’ve been burnt unfortunately - please learn from that and don’t use it again

Yep, it’s the downside. I bought a pair of shoes that were advertised as a 7. The shoes were actually a 5 in the UK, 7 in the US. I had to pay return postage. Stuck in my throat. I know what size my feet are!

lastseasonstop · 15/08/2023 17:57

Other than that, I find it very good for buying and selling. I’ve had some real bargains.

marmiteloversunite · 15/08/2023 18:14

I got sent the completely wrong item. However much I argued with the "help" desk that it wasn't my fault at all I was still expected to send it back at my expense. Made me very cross. I kept the ugly cardigan and threw it in the bin in a strop.

Oh really? So one of my comments to the scammer was I would have to leave negative feedback and they weren’t bothered. I assume that’s because I won’t actually be able leave any feedback?

I disagree that vinted favours sellers over buyers. I currently have 2 items that I sold and sent within the allocated timeframe but which haven’t been paid for because the buyers did not confirm that they had been received and so were automatically refunded.

They have since been in touch to say that for various reasons they hadn’t seen the message but the item had been received. I don’t seem to have the option to reupload and so no way for the buyer to pay as they have been automatically refunded despite me sending proof of postage to vinted. So I have basically sent 2 items to buyers and have no way of being paid for them.

Vinted support have been useless and when I pointed out that the system favours the buyer at the seller’s expense (in this situation anyway) their response was “I can see your point on that. Sorry for this unpleasant situation you have been put in.” But so far no solution offered.

RudsyFarmer · 15/08/2023 18:32

Omg that’s crazy? How are they managing to do this? Not picking the item up from the shop or just not confirming item received?

Original postage is refunded but you have to pay return postage.
