To the Vinted apologists so quick to tell me I’m at fault, what did I do wrong here?

Honestly I am so shocked. What did I do wrong here?!

I buy an item. (Three items make up the bundle). Full price I’ve since discovered WITH buyer protection I’ve since discovered. Seller sends me only part of the listed bundle. Refuses to send me the rest, even when I said I would accept a similar but not exact alternative. Told me to return the items, didn’t care if they got a bad review because of it. I return and yet I’ve now found out my refund will be the amount minus the return postage.

So seeing that it’s always my fault. What did I do wrong?

Just don't record it as received in satisfactory condition (or whatever it asks).

You only pay once you've clicked that.
Message seller and tell them you're not going to accept the goods.

RudsyFarmer · 15/08/2023 18:38

My quibble is paying the return postage. I’ve sent the item back but we haven’t got as far as the refund yet. I’m anticipating some problem with that as the scammer has to actually okay my refund apparently.

In this situation though I’d hold on and wait to speak to an actual person about it, I’ve found vinted customer crevice to be fairly good when I’ve had issues, they take a day to respond though.

Susuwatariandkodama · 15/08/2023 18:38

Service! Not crevice

Whyohwhyohwhy123 · 15/08/2023 18:39

Vinted is slightly better for sellers which is why they’re a lot of stuff on there. I wouldn’t buy anything expensive or anything from anyone who hasn’t got a significant amount of good feedback. I’ve had a lot of good sales, lost some money by being scammed by buyers though and had many good purchases with just one dreadful one.
Ebay is awful for selling because they always side with the customer

RudsyFarmer · 15/08/2023 18:40

Which is why I like eBay lol 🤣

I have spoken to a Vinted customer service bot and whilst they sympathised they said there’s nothing they can do. Them’s the rules basically.

@RudsyFarmer as long as you sent it tracked you’ll get your refund, if the seller doesn’t refund you just get onto vinted and they’ll issue it to you

I always look for a picture of the size tag, and know the sizing of the brand.

I was very surprised at vinted since I'm used to ebay.

When I saw the buyer protection covered me for them not sending the item I thought wtf? But it explains you're not covered by selling regs since you're buying from an individual.

So basically they can send you any old thing and you xan claim and will get a refund but will have to pay return postage. Then if you wish you can take them to the small claims court to get postage and any other costs back. Obvs this is not worth your while.

I buy from vinted because it is about half the price of ebay buy-it-nows. I try to think of it on an overall way so even with a few duds I've saved money.

ChefMike · 15/08/2023 18:50

At the very least, you paid for postage only and got a refund.

Meaning, the seller just wasted her own time and money too. And the money you've spent (postage) isn't lining her pockets.

RudsyFarmer · 15/08/2023 18:58

I think I’ll just use it for really low cost items. There is absolutely no way I’d try and buy a PlayStation or something!!!!

Thank you for this reminder! I received something last week and totally forgot that I had to mark as received. It really does feel
line there are loads of ways Vinted can go wrong!

It does it automatically for you after a period of time (along with leaving positive feedback). Marking it as received means they get the money quicker I think.

DelilahBucket · 15/08/2023 19:08

I've really gone off Vinted. Proportionally I've had a very high amount of poor transactions. If you leave bad feedback they just retaliate and leave you bad feedback too and then other sellers hold that against you. No one seems to bother writing a description and they don't reply when you ask questions.
Compared to the number of bad transactions I've had on eBay as a SELLER, eBay is much better. Never thought I'd say those words 😂

I can't see why anyone uses vinted. It sounds awful.,At least on ebay honest folk can get a refund from chancers.

Unfortunately, eBay also refunds money to chancers from honest sellers - I've lost track of the number of dishonest buyers I've dealt with on eBay (though there are probably an equal number of dishonest sellers as buyers).
Yes, I was scammed on there by a buyer. I contacted customer service who refunded me as thankfully, stupidly, the buyer admitted to dirtying the item in messages (it was new). They'd asked for a refund initially, without returning the item or threatened they would open a case if I didn't agree.

Not content with the item plus a refund they left false negative feedback, and while customer service said it should have been removed the automated system wouldn't do it (I even quoted where I was threatened). I'd had over 12 years positive feedback. I closed my account after that.

lacefrench · 15/08/2023 19:21

I've only used Vinted as a buyer.

I think you have to get the seller to agree to the return costs, quite possibly? I've returned two items (both the wrong items sent to lockers) and didn't need to pay return postage.

Its just the opposite to many other sites. Intend favours the sellers, many others favour the buyers.

You know that when you sign up.

lacefrench · 15/08/2023 19:23

12 years 100% feedback that should have read.

RudsyFarmer · 18/08/2023 20:52

So I have an update on my scammer. I returned the goods as required. Using the Evri email link and scanning the QR code. I tracked the item to her shop of choice where it is sitting waiting for her. Apparently she went there and the package wasn’t there. Lying cow. I assume she’s going to be able to wriggle out of paying me my refund now? So as expected I lose the goods and my money.

OP posts:
lacefrench · 19/08/2023 01:57

I think you'll get your refund, as you have the tracking, but you'll have to keep contacting Vinted and it will take a while.

There's some awful dishonest people around though.

How did you pay? If you used PayPal I’d def consider opening an issue/case with them. I’ve found them to be brilliant in reimbursing when I’ve been scammed - once with ebay

Autieangel · 19/08/2023 06:18

Can't you just not accept the goods? (Which is correct as it's not complete package) then Vinted will refund?

I've only bought a couple of cheap dressers and would have sold on if didn't fit.

We used Mastercard unfortunately. My partner is looking now and to try and remedy it through the card is a huge ball ache for £13.

We’re now 12 hours into the Customer service ticket being opened (no reply from a human yet). Seller has just gone to ground and ignored my last comment. So we wait.

So far into this problem now that unfortunately it’s not an option. I’ll remember that for next time though!
