Hello, feeling really tired and fed up today, can't seem to motivate myself to do the things I should be doing, anyone else feel down today?

We are having lemon and chilli pasta tomorrow with garlic toast. Super quick and fresh tasting. I say pasta. I have courgettes to use so may do courgette ribbon things instead.

He won’t touch that so I’ll pull a bit of sweet and sour chicken out of the freezer. I’m fond of a batch cook for when two different meals are required.

I like a bit of Keto type meals now and again but I would have the same angst and disappointed faces if I tried it here!

They are of an age where meat and potatoes were a staple. Fair play that they are far more adventurous than they used to be. I love to cook. I have my crowd pleaser staples and experimental days.

If I get my finger out, I’ll be marinating some chicken for butter chicken on Wednesday. I wonder if he will stomach saag aloo or if he is off that too?

Maireas · 21/08/2023 11:21

He may prefer the aloo to the sag!
Lemon and chili pasta sounds nice. As does butter chicken. I'm inclined to think that a certain comforting amount of visible carbs should do the trick.

Maireas

I’m loving I, Claudius. It is very much of its time and no doubt would be sexed up to the nines these days. It has made me want to go delving history wise.

I’m easily pleased!

I’ve finished Becoming Elizabeth. I’m fuming they are stopping at one series when I was expecting a Tudors type of run.

They’ve chosen to stop just where it kicks off with Lady Jane Grey hovering in the wings and the Princess Mary looming over proceedings.

It is the part of history that always seems to be missed on any historical drama/documentary in favour of the Six Wives or the later years of Elizabeth I. I would love to see more of this unsettled period.

Sorry. I’m havering.

ArcaneWireless · 21/08/2023 11:28

I get to the point (cooking wise) of trying to keep folk happy.

As you say, a wee bit of comforting carbs on the side usually does the trick!

He’d be happier still if carbs came in the form of a nursery pud!

Maireas · 21/08/2023 11:31

Interesting about "Becoming Elizabeth". I've avoided that, because I teach this period at A level, and I tend to get too annoyed at lack of/incorrect details.
Good recommendation for Clavdivs, though.

Maireas · 21/08/2023 11:32

Lady Jane Grey is a very interesting character. Quite the religious radical. As was Catherine Parr, of course.

jeffgoldblum · 21/08/2023 11:33

All sounds good to me @ArcaneWireless !
I remember I Claudius the first time round , my mum thought it was compulsory viewing! , for gods sake don't watch "Rome"
She recommended that to me but I'm assuming the bbc cut quite a lot out because I watched it on Amazon and the nudity and sex ( yes you see Derrick Jacobi knob!) makes game of thrones look tame!
Anyhow hold back your excitement!! I'm going to make an unusual third cup of tea!!

I ought to get my head in some books. I could sit at the back and listen to you all day Maireas.

I confess I’m not terribly sure how historically accurate it was but I often toddle down Google rabbit holes while watching stuff like this. I’m sure they portrayed some events based on accounts from the day.

But like all dramas they sort of spoiled it with gratuitous nesting.

I’m no prude but I’d rather watch a fizzy dispirin dissolve than that.

jeffgoldblum · 21/08/2023 11:45

You ladies sound very learned , I love history and studied some when I was younger but my real love was ancient Egypt! , I could bore you to tears about that! 🤣

OP posts:
Maireas · 21/08/2023 11:45

It's a shame when otherwise good shows, portraying history well, feel obligated to go down that route Arcane. Too many to mention.

ArcaneWireless · 21/08/2023 11:47

Derek Jacobi is in one of my favourite Tales of the Unexpected. Series 5 episode 5. A Stranger In Town.

Lovely stuff. No appendage in sight!

jeffgoldblum · 21/08/2023 11:48

A relief I can assure you @ArcaneWireless !!

OP posts:
Maireas · 21/08/2023 11:48

Ancient Egypt is fascinating, more about what has never been explained, rather than what can be. Just look at the Great Pyramid. Constructed with more mathematical accuracy than The Shard.

Maireas · 21/08/2023 11:48

We do not need to see appendages. We really don't.

jeffgoldblum · 21/08/2023 11:48

Also apologies for my shoddy spelling!! 😳

I’m not learned but I am a bit of a bugger for historical rabbit holes.

I watched a milky documentary about Hatshepsut the other day and was far more impressed by Tutor Google than I was by the fluff.

I know nowt really.

jeffgoldblum · 21/08/2023 11:51

@Maireas , I know! , also so many unfound tombs!!! , why does no one mention this!!! , for maths homework I did a plot with calculus about where they might be! ( my maths teacher was confused as to what this had to do with the topic!)
Shame I can't recall it now!

OP posts:
Maireas · 21/08/2023 11:52

Hatshepsut, what an interesting woman. Worth a peruse of Tutor Internet.

jeffgoldblum · 21/08/2023 11:53

Oh contraire @ArcaneWireless , don't put yourself down, you seem very knowledgeable to me!

OP posts:
Maireas · 21/08/2023 11:53

Or the huge, empty sarcophagi, weighing many tons. Why?

Maireas · 21/08/2023 11:54

jeffgoldblum · 21/08/2023 11:53

Oh contraire @ArcaneWireless , don't put yourself down, you seem very knowledgeable to me!

I was about to say the same. A thirst for knowledge is not ignorance.

jeffgoldblum · 21/08/2023 11:56

I absolutely love the Suzanne lipscombe documentaries ! Particularly the Tudor and elizabethan ones ! My particular favourite was a two parter called " witches , a century of murder"
Very interesting.

OP posts:
jeffgoldblum · 21/08/2023 11:58

Yes @Maireas , the age old question " how did they build the pyramids without modern tools "
Especially as we now know there placements was intentionally in line with the stars!

The thing that made me go full Bugs 🐰 was that images of her were destroyed in her own temple. As Nan would say, it was a bit of a Liberty…

There are too many stories of women being oppressed or robbed of their rightful path.

I love knowing that women throughout history rose up and claimed what they thought was rightfully theirs.

Maireas · 21/08/2023 12:06

Women's roles and achievements have been suppressed, and hidden from history. You are spot on, @ArcaneWireless 👍
