I will wilkos, also

heldinadream · 10/08/2023 14:55

Aww, let's all will wiilkos.

OnionBhajis · 10/08/2023 14:56

Ooh is this a new verb?

Pinkitydrinkity · 10/08/2023 14:56

I think that was probably the problem - too much mooching and not enough buying!

There wasn’t enough to set them apart from the likes of B&M, Home Bargains etc. Apparently they had gone into lots of old Woolies shops, which were just too big for them to fill properly.

neilyoungismyhero · 10/08/2023 14:56

Use it or lose it..we always enjoy a mooch but rarely support them fully, I'm no different it's a shame.

EmpressaurusOfCats · 10/08/2023 14:57

There seems to be a thing lately with one word being left out of a title. It’s a bit odd.

GoodChat · 10/08/2023 14:57

I wiiiiil wilkos

goldensquaresofjoy · 10/08/2023 14:59

Mooching don't oay the bills though.

It annoys me when people say they are sad about X or Y closing down but they "don't use it"

How do you think these business have to close?

I've noticed that, too.

MMorales · 10/08/2023 15:03

I always found Wilkos a lot more expensive than Home Bargains.

So generally go to Home bargains instead, and I always find something interesting to buy.

Wilkos used to be my go to until home bargains turned up. I really will be upset if HB went into administration.

GoodChat · 10/08/2023 15:04

The problem is there are so many stores now with a similar offering who just do it better.

Wilkos just feels 'meh' compared to B&M/Home Bargains/The Range

SirenSays · 10/08/2023 15:04

I'd shop at the one here more often but everything around it closed down except an estate agents and a bank so I never go to that part of town now.

cancan678 · 10/08/2023 15:05

It's what happens in real life though. Like many I want it's support the high street but it's not always easy. I'm buses to always get my cleaning stuff from wilkos but in recent years they became unreliable, you couldn't guarantee what they had, always big lines at the tills and so on.

Honestly wasn't on purpose.

Ugh wilkos was the only shop like it in my town :( I used to shop there lots, but lately the pricing is wrong. Their own brand wall paints were more expensive than branded on amazon. I guess online really is taking over...

lightinthebox · 10/08/2023 15:12

Recently bought a house which is a 10-15 min walk to Wilkos and we’ve been using it loads for DIY things. Really upset. I don’t want to drive to B&Q when I can walk to a really useful store.

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 10/08/2023 15:15

I much prefer Wilkos to B&M/ home bargains etc. Plus the fact its in the town centre not an out of town retail park is a massive bonus.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 10/08/2023 15:16

I wiilkoed just yesterday, bought a tea strainer and a tiny grater, though all the self service tills were shut down and there seemed to be only one member of staff in the whole place, who seemed to be under the impression that he was somewhere else doing something completely different and the customers were, in fact, penguins. Could explain a lot.

TogetherInEclecticDreams · 10/08/2023 15:16

The one close by doesn't have a carpark. I never go because I can't carry the haul I'd inevitably buy so use B&M instead.

TheChosenTwo · 10/08/2023 15:20

I haven’t been to our own in town in over 5 years, what are people buying in there that can’t be put on the weekly shop? It sort of seems like a shop like the range, full of crap! Might just be my one that was like a tatty old shop, it used to be a supermarket back in the 80’s and had various new purposes but never quite shook off the appearance of a crappy shop!
Obviously it goes without saying that it’s awful for all those who will be losing their jobs, before someone tells me that by not supporting the shop I’ve just made them all unemployed.

cancan678 · 10/08/2023 15:23

My local one would only open one till and then say the others where self service. Except they weren't really self service you had to use the staff till so it was complicated. Obviously trying to save money

OP posts:
cancan678 · 10/08/2023 15:25

But the older people (where the core customers) just couldn't understand the tills. I struggled and I worked in a supermarket years ago

lightinthebox · 10/08/2023 15:49

It sells really useful things like picture hooks, nails/screws etc, painting and wallpaper tools. Just today I’ve popped in for sandpaper.

Its great for being in a town centre so you don’t have to drive to an out of town retail park.

GoodChat · 10/08/2023 15:54

I've just Googled as I live near a very popular town and our nearest Wilkos is a 40 minute drive away!
