Sudden death in young adults

Baconsandwich33 · 10/08/2023 11:33

In the past 3 months I've suddenly lost 2 colleagues, one was 29 and the other approx 35.
The 29 year old lady died of a brain aneurysm and the cause of death for my male colleague is unknown as of yet, but it was sudden and unexpected.
Whilst this is rare, it's very frightening. I had only worked with them both in the days prior. Both left young children behind, seemingly healthy adults who just suddenly died.
This could be anyone really.
Has anyone else experienced this? It's heartbreaking for them and it does make me anxious.

@IndiganDop - yes that's how I feel- it did affect me, so I think we do need the facts and figures to make logical decisions going forward- it may be that it was not really a wise thing on under 35s but that's why it's crucial to have facts and figures and not try and pretend there were not 'losers' in this whole thing. The long covid forum I'm on has nearly 100,000 people and is a mix of young and old, fit and unfit and vaxxed and not vaxxed- so it's clearly not the case that those unvaxxed never had issues either- I've been advised not to have further ones too.

DivingForLove · 10/08/2023 19:12

@IndiganDop i agree there were some issues but firstly it’s the smug superiority of the anti vaxxers (oh you poor sheeple 🙄) and also their pretence that we’re literally facing an epidemic of young people dropping dead everywhere due to the vax. What is desperately worrying is rates of vaccines in children is now dropping below herd immunity because of these idiots, and it doesn’t bode well for the next pandemic 😢

Swimbius · 10/08/2023 19:20

A friend died in her sleep aged 19. No cause found on post mortem but subsequent genetic testing of her parents revealed long qt syndrome. Her older sister had died in her sleep age 18 months but this was in the late 70s so no cause found/known at that time. The hardest part i found to deal with is it's actually fairly treatable, it's just for many people the first symptom is death 😢

It doesn't feel smug when you lose someone to a vaccine reaction.
I know it's not socially acceptable to talk about it, and generally I don't.
I'm just as angry as anyone who lost someone. I'm absolutely not smug. I'm incredibly disappointed.
I have always vaccinated my children, and accepted vaccinations. It's not just an 'anti vax conspiracy theory'.
That's the easiest response, but it's absolutely not fair.

Ididntknowuntiliknew · 10/08/2023 19:33

...and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is in my family, so I also understand how people die suddenly for other reasons.
There are a lot of reasons. All of them awful and shocking.

Babymamma192 · 10/08/2023 19:40

Two of my colleagues have passed away due to a brain aneurysm within weeks of each other.
Both female one was 30 and the other 36.

It's scary and so awful they both had 2 children.

Ididntknowuntiliknew · 10/08/2023 19:40

@Thingstodotoday - typically vaccine trials are 5 to 10 years.
Please don't pretend these vaccines followed the usually stringent processes. It wasn't possible.
Pretending that they didn't harm some people is short sighted.
They didn't perform as advertised, and it wasn't surprising that many people chose not to be vaccinated.

Radiodread · 10/08/2023 19:44

I completely second the recommendation for Cardiac Risk in the Young. Free screening, very quick and easy, took my DD and will take DS2 as soon as old enough. Someone at my school died aged 17 from an arrhythmia that could have been monitored and possibly treated. It was shocking.

@Ididntknowuntiliknew please don’t pretend you know anything about bringing a drug to market and the reasons why it normally takes much longer. The reasons why is was possibly to shorten the timescale are well documented. But here’s a summary https://www.sciencenews.org/article/covid-coronavirus-vaccine-development-speed

photo of four glass bottles of vaccine with two syringes sitting in front of them

How COVID-19 vaccines were made so quickly without cutting corners

Usually it takes years to get both test results and FDA authorization, but speedy spread of the virus and eager volunteers shrunk the shots’ timeline.

2nd/3rd/4th the recommendation for CRY.

Do keep an eye on their website if there isn’t a session near you at the moment.

MrsMarzetti · 10/08/2023 20:09

Friend was shaving in the bathroom age 15, put his head back to shave his neck and dropped down dead. It was a clot that killed him.

@CoffeandTiaMaria watch the Pfizer hearing that is taking place in Australia at the moment, it’s widely discussed and accepted that the Covid vaccine has caused a large increase in Myocarditis. It’s incredible to watch.

Pages of MN'etters wondering 'why' this is happening and the answer is right there. ^

Untested and untrialed emergency vaccine taken at your own risk - there's the risk sadly.

Wow all these stories of people dying 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 years ago - all magically caused by a time-travelling vaccine.

Honestly you should be ashamed to post this crap when people are sharing such personal and tragic experiences.

What is the purpose of this thread?

It was posted as a transparent anti-vaxxer dogwhistle.

Unfortunately for the poster, many other people took it at face value and have shared tragic and heartbreaking stories dating right back to the 1940s.

That didn't stop the anti-vaxxers, who with their usual sensitivity, intelligence and understanding still obediently followed the dog-whistle to post some bullshit about covid vaccines. Which landed like a pile of dog shit in the middle of people talking about true bereavement.

Plus ça change.

DivingForLove · 10/08/2023 20:34

@Ididntknowuntiliknew sadly those who lost someone have been mixed up with the conspiracy theorists - those who I know who are continuing to spread fear about vaccines have not only not lost anyone to an adverse vaccine reaction but don’t even know anyone who knows anyone who has. They just enjoy thinking they’ve proved their point 🙄.

Baconsandwich33 · 10/08/2023 21:01

Don't be so ridiculous. I haven't mentioned the vaccine in any of my posts and I don't believe it was anything to do with that.
I'm upset that two of my colleagues died suddenly at a young age and I'm interested in hearing how common this is. What a disgusting thing for you to say.

Not bullshit that my son had pericarditis after his vaccine. They cannot prove a link but the cardiologist saw fit to mention both COVID in the house and that he had recently been vaccinated. Weird if there is absolutely no relevance? She was wrong about the date btw it was 3 weeks after second Vax.

Sudden death in young adults
IndiganDop · 10/08/2023 21:04

I remain pro vaccination in principle btw.

My daughter is immunosuppressed and has continued to have Pfizer vaccines when called. My son won't have any more, but will have other vaccines when due.

Apologies then. But it has worked very effectively at summoning the usual anti-vax posts, even though the majority of the very sad stories shared here happened long before covid, or a vaccination for it, existed.

If you're new to mumsnet, you may not realise that these threads about 'sudden unexplained deaths in young people' are posted very frequently by anti-vaxxers.

3rdtimemumma · 10/08/2023 21:31

My friend died 28 years ago in her sleep- various post-mortems never found the cause- Sudden Adult Death Syndrome. She'd been to the gym the night before.

Roselilly36 · 11/08/2023 07:33

A parent at schools husband died suddenly, no warning, he went to the toilet and just died, sudden adult death syndrome. That was well over a decade ago, so it’s not a new phenomenon.

However, the excess deaths figures are worrying and should be investigated as a matter of urgency. The long waiting lists to see cardiologists can’t be helping much either?

I feel this. It makes me angry how those so brainwashed ignore it!

in 2022 I know 3 people who died suddenly, only was a very close friend. They all had one thing in common and whether a coincidence or not make of it what you will but their families are suspicious and not allowed go talk about it.

I know people have always died suddenly, they brought the vaccine out so quickly within months of covid yet its always covid. They don't want to face the fact it could be the vaccine despite doctors and scientists speaking out when they can as the mainstream loved censoring even when they are established well respected cardiologists looking at the data!!

RainbowConnection1 · 11/08/2023 15:34

My son's friend died suddenly too. Mid twenties, sat down to eat his dinner and just...died. He was found the next morning by a family member.

If we’re going with anecdata, then I know 3 people who does suddenly in 2020.

As a general rule well respected cardiologists tend to lean towards getting a vaccine over repeatedly getting covid.
