Soo I’ve just had a call from our letting agent went to voicemail as I was on a call and my fucking husband hasn’t paid the rent for the last 2 months….

The bastard is at work and his phone has been switched off

I don’t have the money to pay it all - I did wonder why he had some extra money

We have separate accounts he pays rent etc I pay other bills it all works out fair

I am so bloody angry I daren’t phone the letting agent back and I’m off to check his emails 😡😡😡

OP posts:

I went round to OP’s to help her finish off the patio this morning. As soon as we’ve grouted she will update you all. No idea what the plastic sheets were that we were laying over, she told me it had needed doing for a long time…

CurlyhairedAssassin · 11/08/2023 13:20

I reckon most of these types of posts are social experiements. Or from behavioural psychologists wanting to see how far people make assumptions about all sorts of stuff with only very basic details given in the OP. People reply based on their own experience, don't they? If your own experience of something similar is that your husband was a lying, cheating, gambling bastard, then of course, you're going to assume that that's the only possibility worth thinking about.

Mutinyonthecrunchie · 11/08/2023 13:21

Is OP coming back though?

Can everyone stop posting until OP updates! Fed up of seeing it on active without any updates.

Oh the irony!!

harriethoyle · 11/08/2023 13:45

OP's Mum has clearly discovered this thread, has switched the internet off as a punishment and OP is sulking in their room complaining about being sooooo bored.

Interesting thought, I think you might be right

I reckon OP has discovered that her DH had paid the rent like normal but she has just given £1000 to an email scammer. Her DH is furious with her for being taken in and she's too embarrassed to come back here and admit the truth. (Or too busy reporting the scammers to the police.)

Not to mention that she kept calling him names..

Can you imagine if there was a perfectly simple explanation but the first thing he heard when he got in from a tedious day of meetings at work was "What have you done with the rent money, you bastard?"

If that scenario pertains she will be dealing with the fallout from now till Christmas.

Ponderingwindow · 11/08/2023 14:52

perhaps mumsnet could offer a subscription level that will have them send someone to her home to remind her to post so we can have satisfaction.

Yes. So this type of post is indeed an experiment. They happen every so often. It’s usually got a few themes -

  1. Something or urgency where a blow by blow account is provided
  2. Something being awaited (a call, a text, a knock at the door)
  3. a sudden halt.

i never get involved in MN threads along the lines of “X person is/isn’t coming/calling/responding by X am/pm” because these are often experiments.

Or he had paid it but there was a cocktail up at the agency - booked the payment incorrectly, chased the wrong tenant. It happens.

Definitely! I often wish I could think of something new and original to bring people in and get them hooked and then leave them.
I wouldn't do it but reading this today, it was easy to see how the tension was built. Helped by all the posters who think OP should have waited til DH came home.
It's like a mini series stopping two episodes from the end.

Quick essay material for social science dissections/essays (I’ve unfortunately, been in the position of supervising a couple of students who have had this exact idea, which we have read it out for obvious ethical reasons, and I’ve also unfortunately marked one or two cases where a student has attempted such a thing). That’s the example that springs to my mind, but I’m sure others might have other ideas.

Or, could also just be a garden variety troll.

Combusting · 11/08/2023 17:27

Our rent is £1500 we owe £3000, I have £1400 I can scrape out of my main account and bills account shall I pay it to the letting agents while I await my husband to call me?

I don’t have another £1500 to send the other months amount

£1500 a month for rent?
where do you live??

if your husband doesn’t have the rent money in his account, I’d be very concerned as to what he’s spent the money on or what he’s done with it!

£1500 would get you a flat where I am, a very small one!

we don’t know he’s done anything with it, because OP hasn’t updated.
