Soo I’ve just had a call from our letting agent went to voicemail as I was on a call and my fucking husband hasn’t paid the rent for the last 2 months….

The bastard is at work and his phone has been switched off

I don’t have the money to pay it all - I did wonder why he had some extra money

We have separate accounts he pays rent etc I pay other bills it all works out fair

I am so bloody angry I daren’t phone the letting agent back and I’m off to check his emails 😡😡😡

Of course he should explain himself as soon as possible. Why the actual fuck should she wait for two hours?! Honestly. It's unbearable how scared most women are to stand up for themselves. I despair!

It's got nothing to do with being scared to stand up for themselves, more that some of us aren't given to catastrophizing, and are actual adults who don't need to turn everything into a massive drama.

He is now under the patio for sure.

Rent is always on Direct Debit. There's literally no way you could miss 2 months unless the amount bounced - and then they'd call?

Mine wasn't for the 5 years I lived in rented accommodation.

Next week: "I'm FUMING at BASTARD husband who didn't top up my Three PAYG sim card on Monday morning: I'm ringing his secretary RIGHT now!!"

IDontWantTheWorldToSeeMe · 11/08/2023 03:42

@RentNotPaid did you manage to get to the bottom of this? I hope your DH is OK.

BarbaraofSeville · 11/08/2023 06:03

I love how people are still giving advice and getting the cart being way before the horse as if no-one else has thought to say what they've said within 500+ messages.

No-one needs to place mark any more anyway as the thread stays current in TIO whether you've posted on it or not.

AbsoluteYawns · 11/08/2023 06:10

Honestly, read the whole thread and no update. Bit odd to leave us all hanging OP!

Moglet4 · 11/08/2023 06:17

I know your first reaction might be to attach him to the back of galloping horses but try to calm down first. We were once asked why our rent hadn’t been paid for 6 months- it had, but the letting agents were in trouble and hadn’t passed it in to the landlord. Fortunately, he was a decent man and a lawyer so he took it out in the agent, not us. We had no idea though.

Bearpawk · 11/08/2023 06:24

If your rent is £1500 and you pay the council tax/ electricity/ gas how is that even btw ?

BarbaraofSeville · 11/08/2023 06:31

Maybe DH earns more than the OP? Maybe she buys food as well?

But maybe this incident has shown them that if they had a joint bills account that they both contributed to, had access to, and kept an eye on this sort of thing is a lot less likely to happen and easier to sort if it does.

BabyEl · 11/08/2023 06:53

OP not landing to return it seems so why not write your own ending? Here’s mine

“well it’s been a long night and I’m sorry that I haven’t replied but a lots happened. Finally got in touch with DH at 6pm as he arrived back from work. As you can imagine I was furious. DH looked shocked when I pounced on him as he was taking his shoes and demanded to know why he hadn’t called and what happened with the payments.

He sat me down and we talked. Turns out that he thought paying 1,500 a month for rent was crazy and we would be better off buying a house. He been stashing away money he got from his inheritance and from work and had put a down payment on a large but tasteful 4 bed semi in the nicest area in our town.

however, one the mortgage payments kicked in he had forgotten about then rent and only just realised the error of his ways. He apologised and said he just wanted to surprise me but now the surprise has been ruined. He sent a payment to the estate agent and we’re now making plans to move out ASAP!

thanks for all your help and support!”

Pollymollydolly · 11/08/2023 07:00

The op doesn’t have an obligation to update mn.

She was in an obviously stressed state and was posting when she couldn’t get hold of either her husband or the estate agent.

Something has obviously gone horribly wrong for the rent to be 2 months in arrears, I imagine once she managed to get hold of her husband she has been busy trying to sort out the issue rather than prioritising updating mn.

loislovesstewie · 11/08/2023 07:07

For reasons of accuracy I would point out that a landlord can also issue notice if rent is persistently late or if there are persistent rent arrears, these don't have to amount to 8 weeks . I'm not saying that to cause panic but just so people are aware that there are alternate grounds and landlords often use those grounds even if 8 weeks are owing at service of the notice. It's clearly so the tenant doesn't pay just enough to get under 8 weeks ,but doesn't clear the arrears.

Tiredalwaystired · 11/08/2023 07:09

Horribly invested in this.

@@Bearpawk

for starters that's completely irrelevant to the fact the rent hasn't been paid.

secondly she said she pays other bills & that it's fair. You have no idea what bills she pays.

Or it was a simple admin error and it’s sorted now and she’s embarrassed about the drama she made?
