My dh hasn’t paid the rent ffs

Soo I’ve just had a call from our letting agent went to voicemail as I was on a call and my fucking husband hasn’t paid the rent for the last 2 months….

The bastard is at work and his phone has been switched off

I don’t have the money to pay it all - I did wonder why he had some extra money

We have separate accounts he pays rent etc I pay other bills it all works out fair

I am so bloody angry I daren’t phone the letting agent back and I’m off to check his emails 😡😡😡

I would be worried but for someone who appears to have a previous blemish free husband record - I am not sure why there is the automatic assumption he has done something wrong by so many.

I pay my rent monthly not by DD or SO and sometimes forget to pay it on the day I get paid as this is sometimes slightly different depending on if pay day would land on a weekend. I also have some subsidiary accounts I move money into - and if money did or did not go out of them - I would not notice as I don't check them that often whereas my main account text me incessantly about things going in and out and how much I have spent.

I would also assume if he is at work - he can't just drop everything and phone his wife - he may have actual work to do following the meeting.

I know it is hard to be patient but you need to try. As for people suggesting she show up at his work - I guess that is fine if you want to make a holy show of him and potentially make him look bad to the people who are paying him the wages needed to pay the rent.

Tbf I don't always check my standing order account I use for bills. I could easily miss this if I didn't receive any emails.

I'd be very wary of making any payments to bank accounts you don't normally pay into.

This could be a scam so best to check it's legit with husband before making any payments,

I'm guessing OP managed to speak to her husband and it has all been sorted out or was a mistake

It will be ok. It’s out of character so wait until he phones you. If you phone him you’ll say things you may regret . This is fixable. Try not to worry.

As someone else said upthread, rent can be on a 12 month agreement, and then it lapses, could there be a chance he just hasn't set it up. if the emails have gone to his junk mail too, then he might not have been aware that this was going to happen - and some lettings agents can be crap, the fact that they have sent a few emails maybe enough for them to 'have contacted the tenant'

A lot of people don't pay rent by Direct Debit, they pay by Standing Order.

OP I say this as a chronic worrier and an impulsive 'needtofixthisnow'er.... You need to chill and breathe. Give your partner chance to finish at work and explain what's gone on. There could be a perfectly innocent explaination. You're not going to be imminently thrown out of the house. He obviously can't/won't talk to you at work so don't contact him again as he definitely won't be able to pay the rent if he's sacked. Wait for him to get back to you or discuss it this evening and then you can decide the next steps. It's of no use to get this worked up about something you only have half the story for. The only thing you'll gain is an aneurysm. Relax xxx

I am glad I am not married to you. If my husband's go to was to trash me and call me names and have a furious amount of rage at me without ever even having spoken to me about an issue, I would leave him. The complete lack fo respect, the anger, the name calling and all the hate would be an absolute no go for me in my marriage. Even if I had made a mistake, I would never put up with my husband trash talking and name calling me and getting angry at me the way you are.

I am not piling stress onto the Op. You stated something which from the landlord's current point of view I don't believe to be true. I responded. Which is what people do.

I don't think it's sensible to have important bills going from individual accounts. It just takes one person to lose the plot for a few months and everything goes to shit.

Even if you prefer to keep your incoming salaries separate and keep your disposable income separate, there should be one joint account for joint expense and direct debits, so everything important is very transparent. Decide between you who can contribute what each month, but at least you can both see what everthing to do with joint household expenditure is costing, and that is gets paid on time.
