Below Deck attempted sexual assault *TW*

Just wondering if any one has seen the latest episode that’s being talked about everywhere.

Crew had all been drinking in downtime. One of the female crew had gone to bed, very drunk and was semi unconscious when a male crew member (Luke Jones) climbed up into her bunk with her. The production team stepped in straight away and said you cannot do that, she’s not conscious enough to consent to that basically. Luke Jones then tries to kick them out and get back into bed with her several times until he runs out and locks himself in his own room.

Another female crew member immediately wakes the captain who goes below deck and fires Luke Jones on the spot, basically tells him to get his shoes on and get off the boat and they’ll send him to a hotel. Within about 10 minutes of finding out what transpired he had him off the boat.

Incredible watch it play out on television. We all know it happens but to actually see it. You can only commend every person who acted on that boat. From the production crew to the captain for handling it perfectly and stepping in.

I've never watched it. Where's it streaming?

JorisBonson · 10/08/2023 09:28

I'm sad and have watched every single BD and the spin offs, and have never seen the production team (rightly) interfere like that.

Luke was a creep from the odd and Jason dealt with him totally the right way. I hope his reputation is in tatters now. Poor Margot.

Laura can get in the bin too.

SwordToFlamethrower · 10/08/2023 09:32

Below deck as in star trek??

Strangeish · 10/08/2023 09:34

It's really shocking

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 10/08/2023 09:35

I crap I'm an episode behind and now I think I might skip this one.

I used to work on boats and watch the show because it's usually a light hearted representation of what it was really like. This is part of the darker side of boat life and I don't think I can watch that again

Remember when they had to step in when whats-his-face got his leg trapped in the line and was dragged in the water?

Appin · 10/08/2023 09:36

What season is this?

Ashton! That was scary. He probably would have died if the camera guy hadn't stepped in.

Hoppinggreen · 10/08/2023 09:37

I don’t actually watch the show but I have seen this clip.
Thank God it was handled so well and so quickly, good job some of the production crew were men as it might not have gone so well if it had been an all female team

Motheranddaughtertotwo · 10/08/2023 09:37

Which series is this?

Theimpossiblegirl · 10/08/2023 09:38

If the production team wasn't there...

Moonberri · 10/08/2023 09:38

Where is this currently being shown? Am miserable with covid and need this kind of rubbish TV to keep me going.

That was it! I kept thinking Kelly in my head but he wasn't South African.

Just remember Lee's face when he was talking about how serious that was.

I watch it on Hayu

Ohmylovejune · 10/08/2023 10:05

Not watched it but we had an incident on board a cruise where a strange guy that we met on boarding (and decided immediately to avoid if we could) apparently threatened the Captain. The Captain has the ship slightly diverted overnight and he was taken off to the mainland by tender! We woke to be told we would be docking slightly later than planned because of a short overnight diversion. The rest of the story came out over the following 2 week cruise.

They don't mess about!

mateysmum · 10/08/2023 10:06

Yeah, loads of discussion on Reddit. If I was Luke, I'd be keeping a very low profile, but apparently he's unrepentant. This all actually happened over a year ago.
Essentially it was attempted rape. If the production crew hadn't stepped in it could have been actual rape. Luke is a creep and a predator of the first order. I watched it and then couldn't stop thinking about it all the next day. Gave me the shivers.
Aesha and Capt Jason were great and Laura deserved her comeuppance as well.
Margot has posted that she barely drinks these days. I can understand why.

PollyThePixie · 10/08/2023 10:10

That was awful to watch.

BillyBraggisnotmylover · 10/08/2023 10:10

Everybody needs a friend like Aesha.

She is my favourite, what a woman.

Wishitsnows · 10/08/2023 10:13

Holy shit thank god there was a production crew there or you just know what would have happened. The fact he slammed the door while naked to push out the crew shows he felt entitled to do whatever he wanted. Scary to watch

Missrabbithasfainted · 10/08/2023 10:13

I’m both shocked and not about Laura’s reaction.

and her comment about him doing it if she had kept him sexually happy. 🤮

I hope Laura has some personal growth in life and doesn’t continue to defend attempted sex offenders. It would not surprise me if he has actually done this and succeeded in the past because he was way too brazen around other people. Alcohol has never made me rape someone. Can’t believe she used being drunk as his excuse.

JorisBonson · 10/08/2023 10:15

Everything cheffy said was spot on too. Women should be allowed to get as drunk as they want without predators like him taking advantage.

SD1978 · 10/08/2023 10:19

And a female crew member was also immediately fired, for being sexually aggressive towards a male crew member, and making some horrible comments to the girl involved with the initial incident. Was really impressed- with the film crew and also the captains response to both of them.

MummyJ12 · 10/08/2023 10:20

It was really shocking to watch. Laura wasn’t just guilty of defending Luke’s predatory behaviour, she was predatory towards Adam too, straddling him on his bunk and trying to massage him when he was clearly not consenting. Luke and Laura’s behaviour both being massively concerning. Although, Luke’s was much more terrifying.
At least Laura has publicly apologised. Luke however continues to be defensive and unrepentant which is on another level.
I agree Aesha and Jason handled it brilliantly and are absolute heroes. Thank heavens the production team stepped in…..
