Below Deck attempted sexual assault *TW*

Just wondering if any one has seen the latest episode that’s being talked about everywhere.

Crew had all been drinking in downtime. One of the female crew had gone to bed, very drunk and was semi unconscious when a male crew member (Luke Jones) climbed up into her bunk with her. The production team stepped in straight away and said you cannot do that, she’s not conscious enough to consent to that basically. Luke Jones then tries to kick them out and get back into bed with her several times until he runs out and locks himself in his own room.

Another female crew member immediately wakes the captain who goes below deck and fires Luke Jones on the spot, basically tells him to get his shoes on and get off the boat and they’ll send him to a hotel. Within about 10 minutes of finding out what transpired he had him off the boat.

Incredible watch it play out on television. We all know it happens but to actually see it. You can only commend every person who acted on that boat. From the production crew to the captain for handling it perfectly and stepping in.

So if he does this whilst cameras are rolling, what does he get up to the rest of the time? Despicable excuse for a man.

Ah god I've just watched it

Shocking stuff, she may have been drunk but she was still able to say no, she wanted to sleep but he still felt entitled to rape her only for the producer to stop him. No is no whether drunk or sober.

It really was shocking to watch. The anger on his face when the production crew tried to stop him, he was really out of control. And then apparently couldn’t remember it at all the next day… The way the captain handled it was spot on, taking him straight off the boat.

It was also shocking having the other female stew Laura pretty much doing exactly the same thing to Adam, he said no so many times and she climbed on top of him, she seemed like a narcissist, couldn’t understand anyone else’s feelings at all.
I know BD want to get ratings up but they need to be careful that the ‘characters’ they chose are not unsafe for others.

I suppose the trouble is that you can’t spot a rapist just by looking at them!

We’ve just watched series 3 of Med and it was noticeable that there was no sex at all until right at the very end of the season) whereas in other series it’s often the first night. Though based on comments here from people who’ve worked in the industry maybe it’s not uncommon to have lowered boundaries around sex. A bit like the Olympic village but on water!

Working in this environment can feel lonely but also smothering. Many people form quite intense relationships really quickly. Feelings are often really intense which is why it often fizzles out when you get back to the real world. It's very bizarre and takes a while to get used to.
I also think, from my own experience, people who go into this industry are running away from something. Many of the women I met, myself included, had been hurt and were vulnerable. Many of the men were predatory or emotionally damaged.

I’ve started watching this show and on season I think 5? There’s an episode where one of the female stewards gets touched up by a female guest and locked in a room with her. The steward is told to basically suck it up as that’s part of the yacht life. The steward did not want it and the guest actually follows her into the kitchen. The steward is then told by the head steward it’s her own fault as she led her on?? I don’t understand how that’s allowed. It’s sexual assault but because the guest is very rich it’s “allowed” for fear of upsetting them.

I love BD and have watched them all. This was brilliantly handled by the captain and Aesha is just lovely. I remember on her first season not really knowing what to think of her, but she's just a genuinely lovely woman.

I don't see any sexual chemistry between her and captain though, I know she has lots of brothers and she's mentioned she sees him like a brother. Not sure how captain feels though!

Just caught up with the episode after being away. Luke is despicable, but I feel almost as outraged at Laura - she pursued Adam relentlessly even though he couldn’t have made his views clearer. He confided in another crew member during dinner, but because he make the same level of support wasn’t given to him. He looked really helpless.

My heart broke for Margot when she blamed herself. Her mum was so calm on the phone but must have been furious.

Aesha is just amazing!
