To hate the nights drawing in ..

in August. I mean this is the height of the summer holidays. Festivals, bank holidays, kids off school but by the end of August it will be dark at 8pm down south. It’s just so depressing knowing that in 2 months it will be dark before ai finish work

By October I’m over it as it’s clearly time for winter but it’s so horrible feeling the sunny days slip away before the actual end of summer.
I love the long evenings but the weather is temperamental in Spring and it’s hard to make the most of them when things are just warming up.May and June are great and then it’s all downhill. I really noticed the earlier sunset tonight and I’m not ready for it.

It seems a funny thing to let bother you. It's not as if you can do anything about it.

Lovehearts82 · 06/08/2023 21:36

I'm the opposite, I love the "ber" months. Crisp, sunny Autumn days in September and October are my faves 🍂 darker cosy evenings.

JamSandle · 06/08/2023 21:37

Not having a proper summer is hard. I'm already upping my vitamin D to try to get on top of the low mood winter brings me.

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 06/08/2023 21:38

I'm with you, it's so sad, especially when we haven't had a good summer.

Exactly my thought. It happens every year.

VinEtFromage · 06/08/2023 21:44

@Marchintospring I'm right there with you!

Im not complaining about the rain or the lack of sunny days, I'm not even complaining about not going on my planned holiday to a place I used to go every year and haven't been since it's covid. I'm not complaining about having to work extra weeks.

but I am pissed off with it getting dark so bloody early! And light so much later in the mornings. I'm not happy about it.

to those who think it's not worth getting annoyed by, can you give us a list of what we're allowed to be unhappy about????

TantrumTroubles · 06/08/2023 21:45

I said the same thing to my DH tonight @Marchintospring I noticed the sun setting much earlier and much further over than it has been. I hate the dark nights, think I have SAD as it really effects my mood. It's so depressing.

Marchintospring · 06/08/2023 22:16

Exactly @VinEtFromage . I accept the rain mainly because it’s not actually cold but the shorter evenings have come around too quickly.

It seems a funny thing to let bother you. It's not as if you can do anything about it.

I know I can’t do anything about it which is half the problem. Just watch it happening every night.

I love it

viques · 06/08/2023 22:23

I noticed it tonight, and was a bit oh bugger.

LadyKenya · 06/08/2023 22:23

Yeah it sucks, especially since the weather where I live has been so bad recently. Yesterday was quite cold as well. I am taking vit D as I am sick of feeling rubbish in the winter months.⛈

Bobbybobbins · 06/08/2023 22:25

Normally I don't mind it but the summer has been shit so far!

Doihavetogotoworkdotcom1 · 06/08/2023 22:31

I look forward to the autumn and winter. I find dark evenings comforting.

Fizbosshoes · 06/08/2023 22:33

I whinge every year at the beginning of September at how depressing how dark it is. And my teen DC roll their eyes and tell me I say it every year.
I started the whinging a bit earlier this year! 🤣

Tacocatgoatcheesepizza · 06/08/2023 22:33

Yes I feel exactly the same. I love summer. I suffer so badly from SAD I feel like I’m a totally different person over winter. As the season starts to turn I feel quite ill at the thought of what’s to come.

footballcominghome1 · 06/08/2023 22:35

Yes I know exactly where you are coming from. Every year around this time I get this horrible depressing feeling. I posted last year about it.

JamSandle · 06/08/2023 22:36

I love all seasons but summer has been very short this year and winter lasts so long. It would be nice to have had more sunny days and longer lighter evenings.

Pootle40 · 06/08/2023 22:39

I hate the dark winters and being in Scotland we swing from dark at 11pm in June to 330pm some days in December 😢

I agree OP.
I am one of those people whose mood really plummets as the days shorten.
for those not affected, you are very lucky.

fortnumsfinest · 06/08/2023 22:41

I agree with you op, I hate the nights drawing in. I'm in Scotland and it can still be light here at 11pm, has been dark for ages already tonight.

Our schools are back next week, seems like summer has totally passed us by, will soon be dark at 4pm again, totally depressing

CatchHimDerry · 06/08/2023 22:42

Agreed OP literally thought this only yesterday

midsomermurderess · 06/08/2023 22:42

People say we haven't had a proper summer. June was baking.

DappledThings · 06/08/2023 22:42

I love it. I find it makes me tense it staying light so late. I get a little boost from the the first day sunset is a minute earlier after the longest day, the days drawing in means a calmer feel.to everything for me.

eurochick · 06/08/2023 22:44

I also noticed the earlier sunset for the first time tonight. I'm sad the nights are already drawing in when summer doesn't seem to have started yet!
