Nepmarthiturn · 06/08/2023 11:18

Helloooo lovely people, a new thread for a us to continue to chat and connect with other autistic women (small talk and word mincing not required). 😊

As before, anybody newly stumbling upon this is very welcome to join us (even if still awaiting diagnosis). But we'd be grateful if others could leave us alone please, like the NT man we encountered in thread #1. 🤣

THAT'S ANOTHER THING

Why hasn't this site got an EDIT function? It drives me mad to see errors in my posts.

Because if it had an edit function you would be able to post something contentious or untrue, and then pretend you never said that and make the threads really confusing because posters 3, 4 and 5 are arguing with something poster 2 said which is no longer visible.

imautisticandalsoabitch · 10/08/2023 13:04

Well I just typed a massive long post and then pressed the wrong button and woosh fucking GONE!
We need an edit button for sure, I hate mistakes!
@TheShellBeach thank you, I'll take a look at all the descriptors...I know I should have applied years ago but jist felt like a fraud. It's largely because it's in these official bodies' interests to treat us as such, so they don't have to pay us anything or do anything. I'm being a 'bitch' with my LL and insisting on some minor reasonable adjustments and you'd think I'd asked for the earth! The ignorance and discrimination is rife and Ive now taken it upon myself to highlight their incompetence. When I'm done with those arseholes, I shall start on my PIP application , I shall be BRAVE!

Thankyou also for this thread ..... I bet if any of those idiots who say, 'yeah but everyone's abit autistic' could be bothered to read these threads, they'd soon STFU. They really have no idea do they?

I couldn't give a single crap about the weather

@AuDHD4Me I think I love you.

Thanks. The feeling is entirely mutual!
Just got our ADHD diagnosis for my autistic son. Combined, just like his mum. He's an excellent human being and we're having a diagnosis doughnut to celebrate 🎉

QuitChewingMyPlectrum · 10/08/2023 14:55

And thank you for inspiring me to get a PIP claim in for my daughter. She's 17, ADHD, suspected ASD and dyspraxia, and she has ME to boot. She deserves a bit of help.

imautisticandalsoabitch · 10/08/2023 17:16

My diagnosis suspected ADHD too but I also have complex PTSD from some adverse childhood events, so not sure if I can actually receive a diagnosis of ADHD when there's all that in there to contend with. I'm pretty happy with my autism diagnosis for now though. Congratulations on your little ones' diagnosis @AuDHD4Me ....mine are grown and both are autistic and it's amazing to see the difference in acceptance and attitude between their generation and ours. I started out feeling ashamed about telling other people in my generatiom as the NT ones round my way tend to be brainless pisstakers...so it's been abit difficult saying it out loud when I've needed to. Their friends talk openly about all topics, diversity and disability ....it's lovely to see.
My parents (boomers) seem to find it even harder to accept or talk openly about it. There's alot of autism in my family as a whole, and whilst they say they are not ashamed, they really don't want to talk about it and still insist it's an excuse for bad behaviour! I cannot get into the parents thing for now but let's just say NC has been happening because of how I've been treated!
I'm really glad things seem to be changing for the better.

Alternatively, you could correct accidental errors of spelling, syntax and grammar.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 10/08/2023 18:43

Hi, can I join you? I have autism and two kids with autism, 1 adult and 1 primary. DH is currently waiting for assessment too but everyone know the outcome. He's like a tv caricature of an autistic man. I told the people who diagnosed my eldest that they'd be able to tell he was autistic straight off when they met him. They said that wasn't possible. Then they met him and admitted I was right.

StopStartStop · 10/08/2023 18:49

Hi @MrTiddlesTheCat Do you find yourself 'autistic spotting' when you're out? I can't help it. There are far more of us than people imagine.

I do, all the time.
On the telly, too.

StopStartStop · 10/08/2023 18:51

😁

MrTiddlesTheCat · 10/08/2023 18:56

Yep. I'm currently studying at an adult learning centre for people who never got the grades in school. It's like autism central but only a handfull know it.

QuitChewingMyPlectrum · 10/08/2023 19:34

I definitely feel like I have A-dar these days. I see plenty of people, most of them my (undiagnosed) friends and I'm never sure whether to raise it!

Jellycats4life · 10/08/2023 19:58

My motto is takes one to know one 😅 I see autism absolutely everywhere, not least throughout my own family.

Even in my 20s I used to speculate to myself whether colleagues and people I met through work were autistic. Didn’t have a clue I was ND myself at that point, which is ironic.

TheShellBeach · 10/08/2023 21:06

Actually, I watched a You Tube video a few years ago, about how you might be autistic if x, y or z.....
And I said to DH (especially considering all my autistic relatives, my sister, our son etc) "I think I might be autistic" and he said "I've known you were autistic for years".
....... which surprised me. I wondered why he hadn't mentioned it before.
Anyway, once I was diagnosed, I told our other son, and he said he thought he was, too.

It all became so OBVIOUS then.
Second DS and I are sure that oldest DD is, too. She doesn't agree.

Yet.

imautisticandalsoabitch · 10/08/2023 21:50

@MrTiddlesTheCat I went to one of those in 2011 to get my english and maths! So yep you're absolutely right 😂
@TheShellBeach well said about the edit thing

imautisticandalsoabitch · 10/08/2023 21:55

Just saw this about the autistic girl that was arrested by 7 police officers
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/08/10/autistic-teenager-police-arrest-homophobia-lesbian-nana/

Where I live the emergency services and the local autism charity have a scheme where if you can send the charity brief proof of diagnosis, they send you a card with your name on saying you're autistic which you can show anyone who you feel needs to see it. The idea was to avoid misundertandings and volatile situations like the above.

QuitChewingMyPlectrum · 10/08/2023 22:31

@TheShellBeach your husband sounds like mine a little. He genuinely just likes me with all my quirks, magic powers of breaking everything down to its simplest form and completely blunt answers. He even feeds my Lego addiction!
And when I was diagnosed, his words were.
"Great, we knew anyway didn't we?"

autienotnaughti · 11/08/2023 05:03

Ewww. I'm laid in bed scrolling and my face must be reflected from the screen. A fly just flew into my face and hit me in the eye.!!!

Cherrypi · 11/08/2023 07:43

Oh no that sounds horrible. I think a lot of my family are undiagnosed autistic. Lots of my friends have been recently diagnosed in their forties. I'm definitely more drawn to neurodiverse people. Starting my third year in the same job this month. This is the first time I've ever lasted this long.

A card wouldn't have helped in that situation. The officer was told clearly that the child had autism, she said she didn't care.

imautisticandalsoabitch · 11/08/2023 10:25

@MrTiddlesTheCat this is the kind of thing I fear...power hungry individuals doing their worst.
I wonder if that police force has a card scheme in their area though .... surely if they did the other police officers might have been more measured in their response?
Have no idea, it's terrible. And that police officer woman is a total cunt.

imautisticandalsoabitch · 11/08/2023 21:09

Welll, today has been interesting on threads relating to autism on here to say the least. So much misinformation and perpetuating nasty myths about autistic people. And you can tell the people posting the worst of it are NT. So obvious in the wording of the posts. Hope everyone here is okay. Just been out for a relaxing cool evening walk with doggo and my youngest....saw a cute baby hedgie and plenty of other dog walkers.
I enjoy chatting with other dog owners, not least because the conversations are quite predictable with a little room to add/test a new question out😊

Which posts are you referring to?
Be interested to read (although probably largely depressing)
