I have just tested positive for covid for the first time EVER…

As the title says, I’ve never tested positive before. I’ve had colds and coughs and felt run down, but that’s what they’ve always been.

I’ve been feeling pretty run down the last couple of days, especially yesterday. The worst symptoms being body aches and a really sore throat.

Tonight I’ve not slept a wink as I’ve been so cold, shivering under my duvet. But I am so hot to touch and my temp was 37.6 degrees, so I decided to just do a test as I had a free box in my cupboard. I didn’t think it would be positive as I’ve been run down before, with all of the covid symptoms, and nothing.

Lo and behold, two very clear lines appeared. I am a bit in shock to be honest and feel pretty 💩. My plan is lots of paracetemol and to just rest.

Has anyone else tested positive recently?

Yes me, for the 3rd time 😩. I had it twice last year in March and August. The first time was the worst, just a constant throat pain, headache, blocked nose, body aches, coughing up crap. The second was a head cold and sore throat. And this time its like a bad head cold, sinuses blocked and sore throat and coughing up crap. Which is why I'm up at this time 😫
Weird thing is that I never get normal colds/flu at all, the rest of the family do but I never catch them. But covid comes and bam I'm the one who gets it and feels crap, strange. I've had it since Tuesday, when my sore throat began and my husband and kids are fine. Hope you feel better soon. Hope we both do.

ChiPawPrint · 05/08/2023 05:35

Yes, I've just started testing negative again after 10 days of positive. I was so unwell with it and even now I still have a cough and mucous on my chest. It was the first time I've ever had it.

Be prepared for feeling absolutely wiped out and sleeping a lot more.

frazzledasarock · 05/08/2023 05:40

DH has it, he tested positive yday. He was complaining of feeling rundown recently. He’s wiped out with severe headache and aches and rocketing temp.

like a pp he barely ever gets sick. No idea where he picked it up from. This will be his third bout too.

rest and I hope everyone feels better soon.

Yep, had my first ever positive a few weeks ago. Felt a bit run down and like I had a cold coming on but I'd had a run of 60 hour weeks so just assumed it was that. Only tested when I realised my sense of smell was totally gone. I think I must've tested towards the end of my time with it as the line wasn't super dark and when I retested 3 days later I was clear. I didn't ever feel too bad with it, so quite lucky. My parents (who live 500 miles away and who I hadn't seen in ages) also had it at the same time so think there's a bit of a spike.

Rest up and hope you feel better soon!

Responsible people, because it can kill the clinically vulnerable. If chicken pox didn’t announce itself so clearly it would be responsible to do the same. Just because we’re all sick to the back teeth of it doesn’t change the fundamentals.

Two people I know who have ot currently, have never had it before

I hope you feel better soon.

Yep. I work in Early childhood and still test, it's just not worth it. Unforunately, we just had a parent pass away from complications from influenza b.

Us3rnam36 · 05/08/2023 08:05

Thank you all. I slept a few hours but I suspect I’ll be spending the day in bed. I keep going from shivering cold to sweating.

It’s my birthday towards the end of next week so really hoping I am feeling better by then and I don’t lose my taste or smell 😔 just can’t believe the timing!

I read that there was another variant currently doing the rounds. I hope you (all) feel better soon and it doesn’t ruin your birthday.

Why is it madness to test?

Very very few people are testing now...Most still continue their lives, and those that have had it a few times show virtually no symptoms. The clinically vulnerable will be exposed to it in everyday life regardless of what you do.

(Personally I wouldn't go out and about if visibly "ill", COVID or not, as flu and other things are just as deadly to someone vulnerable)

Looking forward to the next vaccine, hope it is effective, Covid does seem to more prevalent.

Slagging off people who choose to test when you don't even know their reasons makes you as big a tit as the ones who moralise when other people don't. Mind your own business.

Hollyhead · 05/08/2023 08:47

I’d test for any minor illness if the facility were available as my nerdy side would like to know exactly what something was! Plus if enables you to make better risk assessments about when and when not to mix with people.

GiddyGladys · 05/08/2023 09:11

I've had it a week and I'm only just starting to feel better. Second time of having it and this once was the worst, stabbing headaches, sinus pain and terrible aches and pain. Just left with a sore throat now.

I agree.

mydogisthebest · 05/08/2023 10:50

I have had it a week and still don't feel great.

I spent 3 whole days in bed with an horrendous headache and aching. I also kept throwing up. Could not even keep a sip of water down for those 3 days and was bringing up bile every couple of hours.

If I tried to get out of bed I would just throw up and feel like I was going to pass out.

Even today just showering and dressing wore me out.

It's the second time I have had it and was exactly the same last time (May last year). I hate that I am sick with it whereas most people are not.

DH has also had it but his was just like a bad cold

BiddyPop · 05/08/2023 10:52

DH had it last week (2nd time - previous was May '22), picked it up from work. Luckily this time it didn't go through the house but he had a very sore throat, cough, temp and felt pretty 💩. I slept I the spare room for 6 days until he was over it (my office is set up there so wasn't sensible for him to move).

Why?
I work with some vulnerable people. I only tested in January because I had a dentist appointment. I thought it was just a cold, but it wasn't. The dentist rearranged my appointment and were very grateful I had let them know.

I also worked from home all weekend didn't go into the office.

I'm not thoughtless or selfish.

ifonly4 · 05/08/2023 11:03

Decent people test. It's far worse than a cold for some of us, and I certainly wouldn't want to pass it onto someone vulnerable or ruin someone's holiday/special occasion as someone is so bad they just can't focus.

Housetreehouse · 05/08/2023 11:04

I had it last week. Just tested negative yesterday on Day 9. Having chemotherapy so have been testing regularly for last 6 months. Was supposed to get antivirals and was referred by GP to local Covid Medicine Delivery Unit - they never called me back. Fortunately wasn't too poorly with it. Hope you feel better soon.

boboshmobo · 05/08/2023 11:15

I had it recently and it was horrendous for a day but I was negative after 48 hours .
I'm very fit and well usually so I don't know if that's relevant .

I was amazed how quickly it went tbh. !

Chicken pox is contagious before and after the spots come out so that makes no sense.
