I have just tested positive for covid for the first time EVER…

As the title says, I’ve never tested positive before. I’ve had colds and coughs and felt run down, but that’s what they’ve always been.

I’ve been feeling pretty run down the last couple of days, especially yesterday. The worst symptoms being body aches and a really sore throat.

Tonight I’ve not slept a wink as I’ve been so cold, shivering under my duvet. But I am so hot to touch and my temp was 37.6 degrees, so I decided to just do a test as I had a free box in my cupboard. I didn’t think it would be positive as I’ve been run down before, with all of the covid symptoms, and nothing.

Lo and behold, two very clear lines appeared. I am a bit in shock to be honest and feel pretty 💩. My plan is lots of paracetemol and to just rest.

Has anyone else tested positive recently?

Why are people so irate that OTHERS are taking a little test they've paid for so they can pinpoint what's wrong with them?

Us3rnam36 · 07/08/2023 15:30

Also, having no smell or taste is weird. Sad. I love food!

Trying to justify selfishness.

@ChrisPPancake sorry I meant paracetamol, then 3 hours later ibuprofen, then 3 hours later paracetamol - so essentially every 6 hours.

as you can take ibuprofen and paracetamol together.

That makes sense! Sorry. My brain is full of cotton wool because I've also got covid Blush

ChrisPPancake · 07/08/2023 16:14

@Moonberri have those tablets got caffeine in? Might be the reason for sleeplessness?

Moonberri · 07/08/2023 16:28

No they're the caffeine free ones but thanks for checking.

Bluevelvetsofa · 07/08/2023 16:56

DH and I both started with it two weeks ago. We were in bed for three days and there are days when I feel a bit better and have some energy and days when I just feel rubbish. Today’s a rubbish day.

I’m used to having a heavy cold or even flu, where you feel awful for a few days, but then recover. This feels like two steps forward and two steps back.

It is weird. Everything tasted like I was eating cardboard. I still haven't got it back properly yet. Had a packet of prawn cocktail crisps today and could barely taste anything.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/08/2023 18:31

@Bluevelvetsofa yes! Caught covid for 2nd time this year in May. Lasted 10 weeks! Was as you say: can't get out of bed, an okay day, back to bed. Up and down for over 2 months for us. Felt like death for about 4-6 weeks with the coughing, sinus congestion and fatigue. Am just getting over 3rd bout caught 3 weeks ago after only 4 days symptom-free. First week was awful, but thankfully much less intense after that. Also lost sense of smell this time, too, but has just returned. Everything smelled hot/burning.
🤦‍♀️
We test so we know what we're dealing with. Covid is incredibly contagious and can be quite serious for some. The other issue is its' unpredictability. It can affect anywhere in the body and cause serious disease/complications in anyone. It's a bitch, really. Have had it 5x now.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/08/2023 18:45

BTW my understanding is that because so little viral load is needed to become ill, and infect others, testing within first three to five days of symptoms is necessary. Otherwise you will likely get a negative result. Testing doesn't catch all cases either. Hence so many people walking around very contagious thinking it's "just a cold" because of a negative test. I think this alone has contributed to misunderstanding and that health authorities have done a poor job of properly educating resulting in so much mistrust and hostility (world wide).
Most people are considerate and would mask if ill/any symptoms and need to go out, but gov't etc stuffed it up for everyone and made it political. All IMHO, not trying to stir things up here. Quite fed up having had it so many times and believe it could've been stopped had common sense been in place from day 1.

Moonberri · 07/08/2023 18:47

Politicians certainly seem to have a complete lack of common sense.

LlynTegid · 07/08/2023 19:07

I haven't but Tracey Emin had Covid recently. It has not 100% gone away.

Luxwana · 07/08/2023 19:15

First time was a year ago I was extremely unwell in hospital
Second time was last Christmas and apart from a mild fever I was fine

whojamaflip · 07/08/2023 19:39

And I've just tested positive - first time and this is vile! Dh also positive but for him its the third time.

Body aches, sore throat, fatigue and a feeling of not being quite with it! DS who started with it last week is now negative so he's having to pick up a lot of the farm work with his older brother and sisters as dh and I are not in any fit state to go out on the yard 😩

And it's the first dry spell for weeks so we have combining and hay making to do 😡😡😡

Apparently there is a new strain spreading.

I can’t believe how much this has knocked me out.

I had a Texas bbq pizza for dinner, from Tesco. Tasted absolutely nothing. Feel like I am completely losing my appetite.

You have my sympathy. This last one was different from the others for us as we had vomiting, diarrhoea, loss of appetite for first 4-5 days + the brutal non-stop coughing until vomiting and sinus issues. And incredible fatigue and body pain.
I have read about two new strains circulating with increases in cases since May.
Please rest, stay well-hydrated and try to eat. Salty broth if fever/diarrhoea.
Saline sinus rinses (ie neti pot) help as does a few days here and there of medicated nasal sprays. Doctor told me it's okay to treat fever up to 40c at home, but hospital if higher.

God how pious.

Ive been respectful of people’s choices to continue swabbing themselves for cv.

Its socially responsible to stay at home and avoid mixing if you’re experiencing symptoms of any. nasty virus. As others have pointed out- that’s common sense regardless of whether you’ve tested or not.

I thought we’d moved past all the finger pointing and accusations levelled at each other that was so depressingly prevalent in 2020.

Ears feel very full / blocked today.
Still zero taste or smell which is actually really upsetting me!

I have no taste or smell either. I've had to stop drinking coffee as it was annoying me too much. Can't taste anything. Head still thumping two weeks in.

Unfortunately this is one symptom that can take a couple of months to get back to normal.

ChrisPPancake · 08/08/2023 15:46

Ears and sinuses stuffy and sore for me too. And my voice is barely more than a whisper.
I'm lucky though, this is confirmed 4th/probable 5th bout I've had and I've never lost smell or taste. Absolutely no appetite though.
