I have just tested positive for covid for the first time EVER…

As the title says, I’ve never tested positive before. I’ve had colds and coughs and felt run down, but that’s what they’ve always been.

I’ve been feeling pretty run down the last couple of days, especially yesterday. The worst symptoms being body aches and a really sore throat.

Tonight I’ve not slept a wink as I’ve been so cold, shivering under my duvet. But I am so hot to touch and my temp was 37.6 degrees, so I decided to just do a test as I had a free box in my cupboard. I didn’t think it would be positive as I’ve been run down before, with all of the covid symptoms, and nothing.

Lo and behold, two very clear lines appeared. I am a bit in shock to be honest and feel pretty 💩. My plan is lots of paracetemol and to just rest.

Has anyone else tested positive recently?

Who tests? Madness

She's hardly duct-taped herself into the house with an air purifier and 200 tins of baked beans.

She spat on a stick to see if she's got COVID or if it's something else.

Steady yourself for this one: sometimes when I have symptoms I haven't had before, I Google them to see what it might be! Actual insanity! What is the world coming to when people go to such extreme lengths?!

DS tested positive yesterday 😞

Came down stairs looking rough and complaining of feeling hot with a sore throat. He tested as we live next door to a vulnerable family member and we are in and out of their house several times a day and didn't want to risk passing it on. I would never forgive myself if we did.

So far the rest of us are fine and DS has pretty much slept for the last 36 hours.

I had a cold a couple of weeks ago but I don't test. Could've been Covid, or just a cold.

Workhomework · 06/08/2023 10:04

I'm finally negative today on day 10. I work in a school. I've had all blooming year to get COVID and it gets me the first two weeks of the summer holidays 🙄

Us3rnam36 · 06/08/2023 10:36

@ChiPawPrint that wasn’t as bad last night. I do keep going from hot to cold but I haven’t had the shivering again like I did on Friday night. Last night I just had such a terrible headache. Today I’ve got a bad cold, feel like my ears are blocked and my lips feel incredibly dry / swollen.

Who tests? Madness

My partner did because he was visiting his 85 year old mother who has copd.
A friend’s H tested as he was visiting an elderly care home.

both tested positive both very responsible. Normally they would not have tested.

Good for you. I hope you didn’t visit any vulnerable people at that time.

KvotheTheBloodless · 06/08/2023 12:43

I've just tested positive - only took a test because I was feeling ill, and my MIL has no spleen following cancer treatment and is due to visit tomorrow. I think that's responsible behaviour, not madness.

Me and my partner tested positive 10 days ago for the first time. I work in a nursing home so have to test if we have any symptoms. It’s completely knocked us out, so tired, sore throat and cough, even cancelled a week away for this coming week as we don’t feel well enough.

We've not been this ill for years, we're shocked how shit we feel. Even walking upstairs is like scaling a mountain, and we are both fit and youngish. My GP friend said there's a new strain and a lot of people are going to be shocked at how debilitating it is.

Us3rnam36 · 06/08/2023 21:32

I feel really poorly too. I think I am getting worse. It’s my birthday party next weekend and I think at this rate it’s going to be cancelled 😢

I'm on day 5 - first time having it as well. Feeling a bit more normal today, but lacking energy and my throat is still sore. By next weekend you might be okay.

Us3rnam36 · 06/08/2023 21:45

@Purpleavocado it’s really horrible isn’t it. Can’t believe how much it’s knocked me out. My sinuses now are in agony.

Purpleavocado · 06/08/2023 21:52

It's helped me taking paracetamol and ibuprofen at 3 hour intervals so they overlap a bit, and eating bland soft food.

Trees6 · 06/08/2023 21:52

4 people from the same department at work have all come down with it in the last few days and are pretty ill. 2 are managing to WFH.

It is responsible to test and to WFH (if possible, naturally) if it’s positive, I think. It can be so serious for some folk.

KatesLipGloss · 06/08/2023 21:57

I had the horrible cold, with cough, a couple of weeks ago. Also with extreme fatigue for a couple of days.

I did LFTs (separate days) until symptoms subsided, but all were negative. But I didn't mix with people whilst I had symptoms just in case.

What I don't know is if there's enough testing going on for anyone to know whether they're still reliable against current variant.

Purpleavocado · 06/08/2023 22:07

Mine is comes up as positive on LFT pretty much instantly, I'm hoping it's negative tomorrow

Socksorter · 06/08/2023 22:11

I have just had it, I tested neg and thought no more about it but was definitely worse than a cold but not as bad as flu, lots of shivers and aches and exhausted, also my taste went weird. My husband became ill with identical symptoms and i bought some new tests and he tested positive so guessing i tested too early or they were out of date
i was ill for about 5 days max so hope you get well soon

Moonberri · 06/08/2023 22:24

I've just tested positive for the first time. Fever, shivery, banging headache, sore throat, sore eyes, aching joints, nausea, just starting to cough now. What has surprised me is how quickly it came on. I felt fine this morning and even went to the gym! Came back with a headache and then developed a very sore throat extremely quickly. Tested positive immediately as soon as the liquid touched the line.

I'm testing to protect my family. I know of 3 children with permanent damage, such as a heart condition and organ damage. I think it's irresponsible and selfish not to test. We don't need to wait for the stupid government or failing NHS to give us rules. It's such an easy thing to do to protect other people and society.

Moonberri · 06/08/2023 22:29

Also. I think I know where I got it. Went to dinner with friends and one of the husbands was coughing a lot. I know he is very dismissive of Covid so there's no way he would have tested. 99% sure he gave it to me as i havent been out much at all recently. If he had tested and stayed at home then he wouldn't have passed it onto me. Who knows who I infected at the gym this morning? I just hope my family don't get it from me. I don't understand why people say you shouldn't test. It helps everyone.

BarbaraV · 07/08/2023 09:01

Mine came on within an hour or two as well. Was at the gym wet hole had lunch and got a headache. Been nearly 2 weeks now and I'm still feeling awful.

SmileyClare · 07/08/2023 09:14

I think a lot of people are still testing for covid because they have a stash of tests at home after they were given for free out during the pandemic.

At £12 for a pack of £5 (Boots pharmacy) I won’t be buying any more.

Op get well soon. Treat symptoms at home with paracetamol, decongestants, lots of fluids, and rest. Most people feel better after a few days x
