For some weird reason I have heard two unusual surnames today , Younghusband and Gotobed . Which ( in a light hearted way ) could be used to formulate a sentence -
" Gotobed younghusband !
What unusual ones do you know ?

I don't want to reveal my own surname, but it's so rare that anyone else with it is either a relative of my husbands or married to one!

SouthCountryGirl · 04/08/2023 18:30

Don't want to reveal it but I'm related to everyone who spells their surname the way I do

Borborygmus · 04/08/2023 18:35

Well I've never met anyone else with my surname who is not immediate family.

SuffolkUnicorn · 04/08/2023 18:39

Never met anyone with my surname either minus family obviously

Mooserp · 04/08/2023 18:43

I have encountered an Arsenault recently and wasn't sure how to pronounce it.

Also, a McCool

RandomMess · 04/08/2023 18:43

I've never met anyone but family with my maiden name either! Some of my cousins have a different very unusual surname too.

Topseyt123 · 04/08/2023 18:45

Both of those are surnames I would refuse to change to if I married someone with one.

Our surname is unusual, but not unknown and I like it. It's a place name.

thinkkook · 04/08/2023 18:46

I like the surname Goodenough.

JanglyBeads · 04/08/2023 18:47

My maiden name was sufficiently unusual that I followed the example of a friend and kept it when I married as a second middle name (albeit a very unusual one!)

TotallyOutingName · 04/08/2023 18:48

Mine. There's only 3 people in the world with my name.

FrivolousTreeDuck · 04/08/2023 18:49

'Gotobed' was used in the book 'Carrie's War'.

weegiemum · 04/08/2023 18:51

Like some others on here, everyone who has our surname is related to us in some way.

Used to live next door to Mr & Mrs Honeybun.

ThePinkQualityStreet · 04/08/2023 18:55

Wow saw the title and came to say Gotobed but you already have!!
such a weird one.

I have met a Mr Ovary
mr Chicken
mr Christmas

and anything with Bottom in brings out my childish self

PerspiringElizabeth · 04/08/2023 19:00

There was a girl at school with the surname Cockburn which she insisted was pronounced co-burn… don’t blame her!
And a Higginbottom which we had to pronounce -botham apparently.

I like Popadec and Pendergast but not sure how unusual they are!

homeforme · 04/08/2023 19:02

Winterbottom - is that unusual? I went to school with a girl with that surname, it used to make me chuckle (any mention of bottom when you are a kid!)

Same!

NotFuckingLadyLike · 04/08/2023 19:03

I've worked with a Ms Gotobed and Mr Smoker Grin

bellocchild · 04/08/2023 19:04

Me too on surnames! Very outing...

Savemesos · 04/08/2023 19:05

Mine is also only family members.

I like the surname Cakebread - two of my favourite foods!

Baboutheocelot · 04/08/2023 19:07

I see lots of surnames at work. Champagne is one I covet. I’ve seen Younghusband and Marriage.

spotnoodle · 04/08/2023 19:08

I once knew a guy who's surname was 'Watchorn' which i thought was odd

Kpo58 · 04/08/2023 19:11

Bumstead always makes me giggle.

OfficerChurlish · 04/08/2023 19:13

I was watching the (latest) Trump indictment and noticed that the court where he was appearing is named after Elijah Barrett Prettyman. Another one I noticed recently was Rachel Flowerday (one of the writers for the BBC Malory Towers series).

Probably not ususual, but I used to work with someone with the surname Crook - who changed it legally to Cook when he switched careers to become a financial adviser 😁

PickledMuffin · 04/08/2023 19:13

scattergood and De-ath
i'm sure there's others i have forgotten!

user2468101214 · 04/08/2023 19:14

Most unusual surname I've heard (many years ago) was Pinecoffin

But I also knew a Mr Rainbow growing up (always wanted to marry him for obvious reasons) 😅
