No school holiday for DD

I'm feeling so guilty today. We both work full time and she spends most of the summer at holiday club, so it isn't different to term time.

This summer we will only have a week or two where we'll take time off and take her places and do stuff with her before she starts school again.

I remember having 6 weeks off at home and loving it as a child (my mum was a SAHM). I was getting a proper break before the new school year.

I'm feeling so sad that my DC will never have that experience. The guilt is really bad today :(. Anyone else? Are we doing life wrong?

You are a fantastic mum for providing for your children !! That means going to work and bringing in the money! Well done you! ⭐️🎉👍🏼
You also possibly have a rose tinted spectacled look on your own childhood - we all do.
going to clubs and activities will make your child learn about socialising and getting on with people, they will do fun activities and have a great time ! I would look at switching it up a bit - try different holiday clubs and mix in days with family too if possible and appropriate. I’ve always thought the holidays are too long as it’s a horrible shock when you realise for the rest of your life it isn’t like that. The days you do spend with them plan nice activities ( even home based ones that are different to usual - be creative ! Bake or make Jam or make blanket forts in the living room and having a snack tea in them is also fun !

If you’re planning on a week of unpaid leave, could you maybe do it spread out so say have every Wednesday off or something so she had a break mid week with you to break up the clubs to do some nice activities with you or have a cuddle sofa day so she gets to rest.

Parental leave needs to be taken in blocks of one week.

We take parental leave between us over summer and my children invariably end up bored and at holiday club anyway. Try not to feel bad OP.

Also fun holiday clubs run for a week not dip in and out, that's childcare more than activity clubs. Eg drama club they do rehearsals as well as all the sports so you can't book bits it's a week or nothing.

Also feeling the guilt but needs must. We both work full time and our DC are too young to be home with us entertaining themselves wfh for days on end. Eldest is 9 so not too far off but youngest is 5 so years away.

DH and I take 2 weeks off overlapping a week. That covers 3 weeks. They are doing 2 weeks of holiday club but split either end of the holidays and then 1 week with grandparents.

We don’t have enough leave to both be off at the same time now until the 3 days between Christmas and new year. That’s the reality of working full time with young children and we have no family within 2hrs drive so can’t use them for odd days has to be a good chunk to justify the travel.

How old are your DC op? Remember this is a phase and when they are teens I’m told they will stay in bed until lunch and you’ll be fretting about them doing nothing around the house all day!

Yes we are doing life wrong! Rage against the machine! Demand part time work and full time pay! Win the lottery!

sadly we have mortgages.

as for kiddo, it’s still a break. Different than you had. But still a nice break. And you get some holiday time. Radio was quoting a study yesterday that most parents want to send their kids back to school after 13 days - so two weeks is perfect.

i had a working mom and I was always so proud she worked all day and was a better mom than the moms that stayed home (my birthday parties were the stuff of legends). You’re doing good for your daughter. It’s good to see you achieve. A one income family is a crazy privilege in these days.
