the price for this property is because it’s in a popular village located 30 mins from bath and Bristol and 15 mins from wells. Commutable to London. It was built on land occupied by a church previously. The village has a few amenities so not quite such a small place.
I expect the water is in the bath whilst the mastic dries. They’ve only just been finished.

Vickm · 03/08/2023 23:02

Wrong post!

AlltheFs · 03/08/2023 23:05

The house might be from the 70’s but the decor is pure 80’s. We had some of the Laura Ashley chintz ourselves, and the same suite in 1984.

It’s so nostalgic. I bet the EA hasn’t got a clue about the 70’s or 80’s. They probably don’t even remember the 90’s.

larkstar · 03/08/2023 23:08

To quote a PP - "hideous" - looks like a home from home for Elvis to me.

OsirisservesAnubis · 03/08/2023 23:09

I actually love the bathrooms. They look like they were well done at the time and have been well maintained. I think coloured bathrooms are due a come back, so I'd keep them!

I'd need to change the wall papers in the bedroom though.

SleepingStandingUp · 03/08/2023 23:11

Quite a lot of redecorating needed tbf, assume that's reflected in the price but house is great

The Shining vibes for me too.

Yes definitely!

TodaysNameIsZig · 03/08/2023 23:18

People shouldn't be so rude about someone's home. You can say it's not to your taste etc but here is no need to really slate it. The owners or their family haven't put the house out there to be criticised .

I think that there must be some location spotter who would go crazy for this house for a film, tv or photo shoot.

Letsrunabath · 03/08/2023 23:20

I hate these types of posts, this is someone’s much loved home and you are putting it up for ridicule, so much for be kind. Fir all you know this could be someone selling their deceased parents family home.
im requesting this is taken down.

justasking111 · 03/08/2023 23:30

My first thought when I saw it was Tom Jones. I recently read his autobiography 😂

It's a blast from the past. I wonder who had it designed and built. My parents had many of these features house the same era. It was a beast to heat though.

midsomermurderess · 03/08/2023 23:34

‘People shouldn't be so rude about someone's home’. Most people are being pretty positive about it. You only came on this post to hunt down and unbraid people being rude, didn’t you? What a disappointment.

The OP has stated that she lives near by and that she lives the house - so I'm not sure that was her intention .

I agree that is often the way with similar threads though - and some posters are thoughtlessly rude eg @MysteryBelle but they just make themselves look silly .

MysteryBelle · 03/08/2023 23:55

It’s hideous. And yes has The Shining vibes and also a twisted Brady Bunch aesthetic. I am not a fan of FLW either.

People acting like the owners will be traumatized over comments on their house. Owners or family who have very little chance of coming across this thread anyway, and if they did, you never know, the children may have hated that house. Making up wild scenarios that people will be traumatized 🧐

No, I love the stone bits! They look like the type of interior design that every smaller house was trying to copy and do themselves cheaply and badly, in the late 60s and 70s. This looks like it was well done, like it shouldn't be touched as it's proper interior design for that period.

@CurlyhairedAssassin

That kitchen isn't.

@Letsrunabath

she didn't post it to ridicule it!

there's been a mixed bag of posts, some politely not keen, others loving it & only a couple of rude comments.

if you hate these threads, why do you click on them?

if it was my grandparents house (unfortunately it's not) I'd be pleased people were talking about it & advertising it.

It's not Tom Jones' house!

Nah, I came to have a nosy at the house. Just like everyone else I imagine

JellyBeanFactory · 04/08/2023 01:07

Love it!

pickledandpuzzled · 04/08/2023 07:03

My dad built a house very like that, in about 1965. We had aubergine kitchen units- flat fronted, a bit like today's, but with a metal lip/dint along the top to grip to open them.

The fitted wardrobes were later. About '75? They will be in excellent condition though. The ones we put in around then are still in use, though they've had a coat of French chalk to make them a little less 'in your face'.

So nostalgic!

pickledandpuzzled · 04/08/2023 07:04

I'd keep the bronze suite but change the tiles.
In the zigzag bathroom I'd keep the tiles, but change the suite!

I agree they are a bit later than the house, so wouldn't feel much obligation to them!

ifonly4 · 04/08/2023 08:11

My parents had a midnight blue bathroom suite in the 1970s. I suspect most of the rooms and decor date back to around that time, with some money it could be a lovely home in time.
