Saw this. So sad.Sad

EvenlyDetermined · 03/08/2023 13:12

I'm not surprised. I used to really like it, after Woolworths closed it was a good replacement but now our local store is cluttered, shabby, badly lit, badly laid out and its hard to find anything (I do still try). You can pick all the same stuff up on Amazon now too. Shame though.

SerendipityJane · 03/08/2023 13:13

after Woolworths closed it was a good replacement

Sadly, the clues were all there ...

Such a shame. I was in our local Wilko a couple of weeks ago. The stock was very sparse in there. I asked a member of staff if they were closing down as it all looked so empty, he said they were having problems with deliveries. I wasn't convinced.

CandyflossKaren · 03/08/2023 13:15

Lost out to b&m and home bargains

All too samey

LIZS · 03/08/2023 13:15

Always a bit hit and miss stockwise. Sadly a sign of the dying high street.

MaxwellCat · 03/08/2023 13:15

I'm not surprised. Tried to do an online shop with them the other day and basically everything I tried to buy was OOS! had to give up in the end.

Sirzy · 03/08/2023 13:15

I didn’t see it coming. Our local stores are fantastic.

not good if they do go and it will leave a lot of big holes on the already struggling high streets.

Needmorelego · 03/08/2023 13:15

They rarely have stock on the shelves so it doesn’t surprise me unfortunately.
Something clearly went wrong with their buying of products and distribution because it’s clearly not a lack of the products existing - B+M and similar retailers sell almost identical products and their shelves are always full.
Sad for staff but not a shocker.

Offredismysister · 03/08/2023 13:16

It’s unsurprising really. The last few times I’ve been in our local one I’ve walked out empty handed. The store was barren, all medicine & toiletries shelves half empty.

MaxwellCat · 03/08/2023 13:17

We had a local one that was really good but it closed down so I dont go to the store anymore as they are too far away now

ThrappleApple · 03/08/2023 13:19

Oh, I'll be really sad. We don't have a garden centre nearby and their gardening range is fairly good. I did notice they didn't have some fairly basic things last time I was there.

MaverickSnoopy · 03/08/2023 13:20

I've been anticipating it for the last year. The ones in our area haven't had much stock for a long time. I keep forgetting about them and then when I go in am pleasantly surprised. I expect I'm not the only one who forgets they're there. Just don't find time to get to the shops.

RainRainPissOff · 03/08/2023 13:23

The Wilko’s in the 2 towns nearest to me were both over 2 floors, but they both shrank to one floor a while ago and reduced lines and in the past year or so the little that they now sell slowly dwindled too. Last time I was there so many shelves were empty. I could definitely see it coming.

VisionsOfSplendour · 03/08/2023 13:27

I really like wilkos and use it quite a lot but I was in a couple of weeks ago and did think how quiet it was on a Saturday and wondered how they were doing

A shame for all the employees

Mrsfussypants1 · 03/08/2023 13:27

Oh no I do like a potter in Wilko, go in there for 1 item come out with a dozen be it paint, light bulbs or stationary, I do like their christmas secrion too..Our local one is a decent size and always seems busy, with plenty of staff that seem to have been working their for years.

frazzlerazzle · 03/08/2023 13:29

Love Wilko. Their own brand scrubbable paint is brilliant. I'll really miss it when it goes.

QueefQueen80s · 03/08/2023 13:29

The one I go to in Leeds and Pontefract is always busy. They are different to bnm and poundland, they have more home decorating etc.

Willmafrockfit · 03/08/2023 13:31

i find this shocking.
they are cheap
and pretty popular

QueefQueen80s · 03/08/2023 13:31

What will replace them.. they are unique in what they sell.

miserablecat · 03/08/2023 13:31

I love Wilkos and find it really useful and cheaper than many other places. However I've found in the last 6 months some shelves seem really bare and DD said the local one had hardly any stationery or make up when she went at the weekend.

I'll be sad to see it go, and sad for all the staff.

Willmafrockfit · 03/08/2023 13:32

but we dont have a B & M near.

CandyflossKaren · 03/08/2023 13:32

How are they unique in what they sell??

MrsApplepants · 03/08/2023 13:32

I will miss wilko. I always buy my cat litter there, they do the best. Not a glamorous item admittedly but essential.

CandyflossKaren · 03/08/2023 13:33

Willmafrockfit · 03/08/2023 13:32

but we dont have a B & M near.

You might have one soon, in the Wilkos gap!
